This walk-through was recorded in December of 1993. I bought this from eBay years ago and cannot remember the source. Just posting for fans of Sharon Tate

Despite its history, the house was much more beautiful in my opinion than the mansion they put in its place.

I think most people would agree. What's there is just now a monstacity. It's revolting. It makes me throw up a little. But you have to understand that I don't think they could find a buyer that didn't want to tear it down, I'm guessing. The view is just too spectacular to let the property just sit there decaying.

Candice Bergen recalls her time living in this house back in 1968: "At Terry’s house on Cielo Drive I felt at home. Surrounded by tall, thick pine trees and cherry blossoms, with rose-covered rail fences and a cool mountain pool grown over with flowers, it snuggled up against a hillside-a gingerbread hideout that hung high above the city. There were stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings, paned windows, a hayloft, an attic and four-poster beds. There was a cartoon-like perfection about it: You waited to find Bambi drinking from the pool, Thumper dozing in the flowers, to hear the dwarfs whistling home at the end of the day. It was a fairy-tale place, that house on the hill, a Never-Never Land far from the real world where nothing could go wrong".

A fairy tale place where nothing could go wrong. Well. Imagine that. Kind of like the way people describe Tate’s life. Everything so easy for her, all good things came her way....a charmed life.

Geslina M, yes and no. She had her share of shitty things happen to her. Usually from men in her life. She was date-raped in Italy, beaten up by her French boyfriend, controlled by her manager, treated like dirt by a director, serially chested on by her spouse. And her death wasn’t too crash-hot either.

@@Yeahnahyeahnahyes And don't forget having to deal with Voytek and Gibby. I remember reading somewhere that she actually wanted them OUT of that house because she knew they were using - and possibly dealing - drugs out of there. And actually, that motive is a lot more plausible than the whole Helter Skelter theory. I can't remember if it was one of Sharon's sisters or her mom who said it. I DO remember her mom on a talk show saying that Sharon wasn't supposed to be part of what happened that night. That the killers thought she was still out of town because he car was in the shop. Sounded like she knew something but wouldn't say it on TV. Reportedly, Peter Folger spent a LOT of money cleaning up whatever dirt was out about Gibby. Every find it funny there are hardly any pictures of her; even though she was a NY socialite? Hmmm...

@@jeremyreese9663 Well, Cielo Drive has become a meeting place for curious people. This house is basically on a hill, so you can imagine the feeling it gives and how it lends a more disturbing shape to what happened there, the house is not close to a street and neighborhood. The previous owner was having a hard time selling the house or something, the later residents would spend a short time there and then move out, one of them being Trent Reznor. I don't know, one could even say it was a fitting end to a land full of complicated history. But then putting that horribly ostentatious house in its place is kinda depressing.

The final resident of the original house was the musician Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Reznor rented the house in 1992 and set up a recording studio there. This studio, dubbed "Pig" (sometimes called "Le Pig") in a reference to murderer Susan Atkins' writing "Pig" in Tate's blood on the front door of the house, was the site of recording sessions for most of the Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral (1994). The band also recorded the EP Broken and filmed the video for "Gave Up" at 10050 Cielo Drive. Marilyn Manson recorded sections of the album Portrait of an American Family at the in-house studio in 1992. Despite the murder’s there was such rich history in that house, it’s too bad it was torn down for a “modern” home. The houses were razed in 1994.

I think the caretaker heard everything. And he had Sharon's dogs with him (Chris was a temperamental Weimariener) and you know those dogs had to be barking like crazy! I think he didn't speak out of fear cause he saw the killers through the window or he blocked it out cause it was so traumatic

Fortunately, I don't subscribe to any of that bollocks - simply a very quiet piece of real estate. I could never understand how Garrison could claim that he had't heard anything, but given both the placement and layout of the caretaker's cottage, I guess it does seem possible. The cottage was on the far side of the swimming pool (quite a distance from the main house), and it appears that the living room, where he presumably would have been, was to the extreme far side of the house. It's also likely that he was listening to music with headphones (picturing those big, clunky 1960s-70s headphones), and he may have also been compromised with the consumption of beer and/or grass.
@sportsmediaamerica

No headphones. He testified he was listening to the stereo at a medium level. Never heard any report of pot or booze on the scene. No air conditioner in the guest house. He claimed he was up all night writing letters and listening to music. Seems hard to believe he didn't hear anything.

10050 Cielo had what was widely considered the best views in Los Angeles County. And it was very private. There was a path that bordered the outside of the split rail fence that contained steps down to the fruit trees and other vegetation in the property. No one behind the property as the house was situated directly against the hill. Now there is a multi homesite development up above the property with some of LA’s most expensive homes being built.

to all my fellow nin fans in the comments saying “was trent living here when this was tapped?” this was probably right before he moved out. he officially left the house in december of 1993, which if u look in the title. thats when it was taken. at 3:46 you can see a man that looks to be james wooly, aka the keyboardist of nin. beside him i think thats possibly chris vrenna but i cannot tell. then 3 seconds later, at 3:49 you can see what looks to the the recording room. at 3:53 you can actually hear what sounds to be trent saying “this sure will look bigger in the photos.” at 4:38 theres a chair that looks to be the same one in the “happiness in slavery” music video. i cant tell if its the same one cuz of the god awful camera quality but it possibly could be it. at 4:40 that is 100% chris vrenna with a woman and either james or trent (cannot tell cuz their backwards, probably james because trent is short as hell.) and a random woman. u can hear a man then say “hey uh chris” at 4:42. at 4:58 there looks to be another (?) recording room then the first one shown. its bigger then the first and im pretty sure this is where the “gave up” music video was filmed. at 5:30 you can see a painting of Jesus that was painted by John Wayne Gacy. if im correct trent used to collect some murderbillia .and a painting that looks almost like a long lost brother of the downward spiral album cover. possibly the same artist. anyways could u tell i really like nin lol?
