Its January 25, 2021 and I just now watched this for the 1st time because I passed up the chance to audition and didn't want to see all the awesomeness I possibly missed out on. I've been a massive fan of Alexi and COB for over 20 years. I have watched countless interviews and videos of him and I've never seen him look as happy as he did after this performance. He gave his all to music for over 2 decades and lived the type of life most guitar players and musicians only talk and/or dream about. He was an once in a lifetime original, and I quote "did not give a flying fuck" because everything he did was genuine and came straight from the heart and from his passion for music. Alexi is a certified LEGEND. Losing him has been devastating. There will never be another musician quite like him but as long as each new generation keeps getting interested in guitar and/or heavy metal there will always be a kid somewhere on Earth in his bedroom listening to Alexi's music or slaving over a guitar for untold hours trying to nail a new COB riff/lick or solo. I spent my teenage years with a guitar being that kid, Its a right of passage in my book. Thank you Alexi for sharing your talents with us and for the inspiration

I see complaints about sound here and that the ending sucked bc alexi left and we didn't know what to do, so here's my two cents: Well, we were actually asked to bring the amps off stage which might have looked a bit strange, dunno. And i think everyone of us needed a minute to realize how fucking awesome this just was. I don't care if someone dislikes the composition and stuff. It surely has been the best few days ever for every single one of us 100 guys and girls.

***** Dude, I'm so jealous! :D Alexi is my one time favorite guy. He sings amazing, is a beast at guitar, and writes some of the most killer riffs I have ever heard. If I were you, I would be able to die in peace now ;D

So the whole idea was to bring 100 guitarists to perform together and the show focuses only on Laiho and Children of Bodom band members? When alexi "left the building" the guitarists were left on the stage wondering what the fuck should we do now. Not very cool.

Timo Sandberg These are all valid points and I felt the ending was awkward too. It could very well be chalked up to the organizers though (i.e. they arranged the exit, didn't give non "core band" members proper camera time, etc). As for the performance itself, I do agree with Alexi though, that the 100 guitarsts need to play simpler parts, otherwise it gets crazy. Let's not be all "Alexi is being an asshole" here (not saying you are suggesting that). As far as I could see, still a very cool and chill dude.

Timo Sandberg I was waiting for Aleksi to "introduce" the 100 guitarists at the end or somehow recognize their precense on stage but nothing happened. And then i was waiting for them to at least make a big group bow but again nothing happened.. group bow would've saved the ending.

He recognized them, went up to high five them etc, thank the audience and the band, then he left the stage for the 100 to get appreciation from the audience. Off course it was planned, you dont just drive a limo in and out through a crowd like that without planning

It does sound quite bad technically but I can see why. I don't think they were able to soundcheck the instruments in so the sound tech had to tune in on the go which does get really nasty considering the amount of sources here (over 100 guitars + drums + bass + keyboards). I believe the background guitars were grouped up to save channels but tbh did they ever travel through a limiter? I'd definately use a brickwall there with the threshold set low enough to not overwhelm the lead guitars. I can understand the sheer amount of harmonics they produce can clog some key frequency ranges but seeing as they really were meant to be just supportive instruments, I woulda even used some bandpass filtering on them to make way for the lead guitars dominant frequencies. The drums are way too dry compared to the guitars and all their fancy effects. How about some natural reverberation to make them mix better? I personally feel the drums shoulda had more volume and punch here overall, I mean I understand this is a guitar track but it doesn't sound good without powerful drums. The bass in underwhelming. Why is the bass underwhelming? Bass is important, this music needs balls. They keyboards are nonexistant alot of the time. With the way things are mixed here, it sounds messy, cacophonic and flat. I wish they have the raw tracks stored up so they can mix and master it properly in the studio. I'd like to hear how this "was meant to sound"

Hesusfkr You can hear something if you know what to listen to. Listening to music live tends to hide mistakes and bad sound engineering since the sound inevitably gets mushed, distorted and coloured anyway, in the theoretically infinite and yet most of the time very much uncontrollable acoustic space (open air event). Music also tends be more impressive live no matter what since the potential dynamic range is basically infinite (in a way it's not but virtually it is), it's possible to feel the music instead of just hearing it (that's not possible at home unless you're packing some serious PA). Live it might have sounded good, but what I hear though monitors is way closer and more accurate to how they played it out, and how it actually was engineered. I don't really care how it sounded live since I wasn't there to hear it. I was criticizing the technical aspects of the audio track they recorded for the live stream. It was bad

I watched a few other (cellphone) videos of this. And this sounds a lot better, you can hear more of them (& less other things like wind or talking), & the other intros before they all arrive. So I don't have any complaints... well maybe the ending, but I've seen worse more sudden endings than that (some I found out later they had technical difficulties so... yeah). Well done \m/

This was awesome, it went as well as a concert like this can go. I'm so fucking dissapointed in myself, that I didn't audition to this, even though I live 40 kilometres from Helsinki and know how to play the audition-riff quite well..

tuulenkoti You have that opinion because you don't listen to much metal, you pick up all the little nuances when you take time to listen to it. I think all flute players sound the same because I don't listen to it.

Alexi es una celebridad enorme en Finlandia, así como justin beaber o lady gaga en Estados Unidos, así el es aquí, lo de la limosina fue también para dar show y hacer las cosas más divertidas, el no es para nada una estrellita en la vida real, sino todo lo contrario, es chingon Alexi :) y la limo lo trajo toda la tarde y noche hasta el after 👍

I was in the 50 guitarist piece in 1995. It was rubbish.. 50 slideguitars at the same time does NOT sound good. Had to watch the rehearsals and the show, heard at least 5 times.. Jukka Orma was visibly furious, it looked all the time that any minute he will just shout "ooh, fuck it" and walk out. edit: seems that the sound was just too loud and it all turned to mud.. too bad, even Laiho made several mistakes that sounded exactly like a person who doesn't hear his own instrument at all at times, playing in a wrong key for a beat or two.. Also the discipline on that group was not consistent, you could hear guys trying to get away with a flick or two of their "own" stuff. It takes a lot of discipline not get carried away with the overwhelming feeling, because this must felt awesome on stage... Arrangement was good, much much better than what Björkenheim did.. I mean this really rocked, albeit maybe the rhythmic guitars could've had even more simple and easy riffs and just two, three "real" shredders playing the more complex patterns... Overall, not bad at all. I hope they did a recording session on some closed space so we get better sound and performance from lead guitarists.. Cause the piece really deserves a lot better execution.
