no he wouldnt have been... Wreatling follows specific rules. You can be the greatest MMA fighter but suck badly at greco roman wrestling. Kurt also never was a guy for MMA and that kinda stuff he would never be iterested in mma
@@julioverne579 Most dominant UFC champs are wrestlers, Khabib, Jones. even Lesnar made up for inexperience with his great wrestling, even tho his career wasnt smooth sailing
Mark Coleman and Mark Keer were at the Olympic training center and said when they saw Kurt walk in at his size they said fuck we're not going to the Olympics
Your would never know or comprehend how ox strong you must be with endless endurance to be a WORLD CHAMPION. It's a different level of strength Kurt angel had at this time ..and even stronger when he took gold in 96 with a broken neck!! Kurt angel was a different breed ..
There is a story of him and Lesner amateur wrestling while in WWE. Kurt won 1-nil. Got his point and just defended. he said he was worried bc Brock is just an absolute beast for his size, strong and fast.
I wish they had the real backstage wrestling match between Kurt and the rookie Brock. I heard Kurt made him look like an amateur even though he was giving up 50lbs to the stronger bigger Lesnar. Goes to show there is always levels to every sport, being bigger and stronger doesn’t always work against opponents that have superior technique and positioning.
Kurt said they did go at it forreal backstage. He was too much for Brock's handle.According to Kurt he got him down once and brock wasn't able to get him on the ground at all.
Extremely technical. Awesome to watch... Only thing I see that was a mistake was the second hop start where Angle tried to transition from a high gut to a cradle. The moment you do something like that you lose the hips but he kept his shoulder down which is why this other wrestler didn't leg swing and stand up.
Kurt would have been an unstoppable force in MMA if he trained full-time with it after winning gold medal. I dont think Randy could handle him even in his prime.
"Arawat Sabejew" - common German name, haha. So many Russian, Eastern Europeans, and others joining other countries teams just to get the chance to compete.
One thing I never got about this wrestling is the pinning cause we had to wrestling in school and I got pinned once but I was still kicking around moving shoulders off the ground
A pin happens when the shoulder blades are flat on the mat and sometimes it only takes a second for a ref to call a pin. You don't see a ton of pins in Freestyle like you do in Folkstyle (HS/College)
@@usawrestling oh cool! Do you think he actually won? It seemed like when arawat took him down he exposed his back. Angle seemed like the more fresh wrestler though. Thanks for the explanation
As a British person who’s never really watched wrestling, what’s that part where the ref makes one guy go on hes knees prepped for doggystyle and the other guy gets behind and try’s to reach round to the other guys bollocks?
True, during his college season he was probably the lightest heavyweight in the bracket, he weighed around 199 pounds while his opponents weighed around 270 pounds, and when he transferred to international freestyle his opponents weighed around 220-30 pounds while he weighed 205
@@oscarluque9163 I remember reading a a quote from angle that in 1996 he weighed in a little under 210lbs and the other wrestlers from Eastern Europe etc. who were all cutting weight to make 220 laughed to each other when he got on the scale
I like the rules, most of the rules in wrestling today more than they were back then. Because this rule of the ref deciding the outcome of a match is wack!
Well the passivity calls earned kurt at least 1 pt. The time out earned him another point. The takedown earned him additional points. So I disagree. Also, GER never scored because kurt got safely out of the ring to avoid the takedown on the outside.
@@souravpaul2179 Atleast there is a possibility of some interesting outcomes in those sports. In freestyle/ GC wrestling it's literally two men touching each other for about 10 mins and there are only two outcomes.
Says the guy that doesn't button up his shirt and wear bracelets, who is also studying to be a nurse and wearing a "gay" banner that says Mr. Personna who will most likely get his face slam on concrete if ever facing one of these "gay" wrestlers in a street fight.
