Joe Mama we really do have beautiful subway system) google it if you don’t believe. Moscow and Saint Petersburg. I live in Moscow and I use subway frequently
Потому что потому, ffs, it's just like Richard and dick. Just accept it and memorize. And don't get me started on adding "n" to shortened names like vovan instead of vova for no apparent reason.
I do admit that I met Russians from Russia, you guys are actually nice, not from what our media portraits you. And also guys of the west, do not give a Russian woman an even amount of flowers because it is for a funeral.
Fact #40 is wrong -- there is a word for fun in Russian! It's веселье :) Это весело -- It is fun. - Are you having fun? Мне весело -- I am having fun
But those are not nouns but adjectives and verbs. I think this is what they mean by "no word for fun". However, I think there are a lot of languages which do not have any direct translation for "everyday words" and it is totally normal.
Was it 'veselo' when Putin and his military goons stole Crimea from Ukraine? Lots of flag waving and cries of 'Krim nash!' but then sanctions began to hurt and you realised how much people around the world hate you and expressly request hotels 'bez Russkikh'.
i'm Russian but had no idea about the "conception day". After little research I found out this day is celebrated only in Ulyanovsk (russian city). Fun in Russian is "веселье". What kind of dictionary do you use?
by the way, there are a lot of words in Russian meaning "fun": веселье, радость, восторг, ликование, забава, отрада, потеха, утеха, развлечение, увеселение, веселость, удовольствие, пиршество, пир; упоение, разгулье, приподнятое настроение, веселое настроение, оживленность, сабантуй, плезир, оживление, праздник. Russian: A beautiful language, rich in meaning
I typed *all* of this from memory, so I certainly have a problem. There lived a certain man in Russia long ago, he was big and strong in his eyes a flaming glow. Most people looked at him with terror and with fear, but to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear! He could preach the Bible like a preacher, full of ecstasy and fire... but he also was the kind of teacher, women would desire. Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen, there was a cat who really was gone, Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine, it's such a shame how he carried on............ He ruled the Russian land, and nevermind the Tsar, but the kozachok he danced really wunderbar. In all affairs of state, he was the man to please, but he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze. For the queen he was no wheeler dealer, though she'd heard the things he'd done, she believed he was a holy healer, who would heal her son! Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen, there was a cat who really was gone, Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine, it's such a shame how he carried on............ This man has got to go, declared his enemies, but the ladies begged don't you try and do it please, No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms, though he was a brute they just fell into his arms. Then one night some men of higher standing, set a trap, they're not to blame. Come to visit us they kept demanding, and he really came. Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen, they put some poison into his wine. Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine, he drank it all and said I'll be fine............ Ra-ra-rasputin, lover of the Russian queen, they didn't quit, they wanted his head. Ra-ra-rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine, and so they shot him 'til he was dead............ Oh, those Russians.
So many things wrong and so much making the fun out of russians just gets so annoying...might as well say they are worldwide occupants and evil no? Plus if you mean crimea then yes they took it back and didnt nick it. Learn how to use your brain dumbass western news media.
@Bee Bee im trying to say that ukraine didnt exist before Crimean war when russia took it from turkey and secondly if they didnt take it BACK then there would be a much worse situation right now and im really not in the mood to explain a whole essay to why taking crimea saved russia.
Puffy Pandas Actually we have the polar bear syrup factory where polar bears make syrup signed by a canadian #holy-shit-our-first-prime-minister-was-a-horrible-person
The anti-gay law doesnt' say it is illegal to say "gay people exist". It makes it illegal to teach children "be gay is okay" publicly. I don't understand why Western media just can't stop making up things.
I agree that the law technically doesn't say you can't tell gays exist, but the law is so vague that it's very difficult to know what you are allowed to say about gays. Following what is outlined here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_gay_propaganda_law the law seems to suggest that one can only talk about gays in condemnation, and that normal conversation about gays where explicit or implicit condemnation does not occur, could be deemed "propaganda" because by acknowledging gay relationships as a state of fact, one thereby opens up the possibility to the audience. In short: it seems safest to say nothing about gays at all unless it is condemnation, in fear of breaking the law.
Well I remember the media shitstorm about it years ago, everyone was fiercefully discussing it withouot anyone ever trying to actually get a hold of a copy of translation and actually read what is actually written there instead of just parroting "in Russia, they banned gays, in Russia, they banned gays, or so I heard" (including so-called journalists) and when someone actually tried to read the actual text of the law in question and failed to find even any mention of gay people in the text at all, or that they are banned to begin with, they started backpedaling with "well, uhm, uhm, the law is vague right? they still kinda banned gays right? I mean, it's Russia, they're evil?" There's an old meme in Russia from the Stalin times: "I didn't read it, but I condemn it!" in reference to the communist party banning various books without even trying to read what it is about but already accusing the author of anti-Soviet activity based on his political stance, reminds me of that to be honest. And what do we have now? Oh no, they rated Sims 4 as 18+ because of gay couples there, someone call 9/11. This is somehow more important than US ally Saudi Arabia actually executing gay people for being gay.
Proud? Of what exactly? You go around, insisting the world receives the benefits of your culture; your political styles, your democracies. "You better be democratic, or we'll shoot you" And having conferred these "blessings" all over the world, you wonder why everybody hates you. How do you know what's good for other people, when you don't even know what's good for yourselves.
@@Go-go-super-guru Americans actually do know whats best for ourselves. Its for govt to stay the hell out of our lives. As for the foreign policy decisions of our past govt. Not all of us agree with those decisions. We believe markets should be free and govt should looked at as a "necessary evil". Without it, there is anarchy...too much of it is tyranny. All current failings in our country is due to left wing indoctrination. As another proud American that would agree with the original comment. Im proud of the founding principles that the right to life, liberty, property and pursuit of happiness come from God and government's only purpose is to protect those rights.
@@mattrivera8587 you've been a shit nation since you started. Almost wiped out a whole race of human beings, invaded countries under false pretences, caused economic instability for so many nations, just so they can be torn apart and sold off for more than they're worth. Still proud?
@@Go-go-super-guru youre presupposing I agree with your premises. Which I reject them. So yes... I am still proud. We are the most generous nation, giving more charity than any other. "Exterminated an entire race" is what Historical revisionists like Howard Zinn who refused to debate his claims made. America had sole power to take over the entire world after the USSR collapsed. We are the only nation in history to have that type of power and not seek global conquest. Every other world power at one point has sought world dominion. "Shit nations" don't do that... 😉
Well I'm not Russian, but, I worked for a Russian import / export company for a decade. I met and worked with a lot of Russians. EVEN I CAN TELL a lot of this was British prejudice.✌
Russia is amazing, I wish I spoke. I'm Hungarian-American, luv for Russian material, life style, laws, etc is some of what we have here... I would love to see the mother land. Idk what else to say but amazing
Many of these "facts" are just fictional lol Like there is no word for fun? There are probably more words for fun in Russian than in English, on top of my head i can think of at least 3.
Fun in Russian is called Веселье "Vesel'ye" Also it could be called забава "Zabava". By the way, they really know what fun means. Even their Comedy club is much funnier then Western ones. I am not Russian nor trying to defend them, however, I can't accept the false information.
Revaz Eristavi Zabava? Sounds awfully like polish Zabawa which means play/playing or fun. Maybe because they're both SLAVIC languages but use different languages and alphabets. Edit : just added a bit.
Here are some of the words in the soviet national anthem translated to English United forever In friendship and labor Our mighty republics will ever endure The great Soviet Union will live through the ages The dream of a people their fortress secure Long live the Soviet motherland Made by the people’s mighty hand Long live the people united and freeeeeeee Strong in a friendship tried by pire, Long may our crimson flag inspire Shining in glory for all men to see Through days dark and stormy Where great Lenin lead us Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above And stalin the leader With faith in the people Inspired us to build up the land that we love (Chorus) We fought for the future Destroyed the invader And brought to our homeland the laurels of flame Our glory will live in the memory of nations And all generations will honor her name (Chorus) aka the second paragraph Truly the greatest national anthem ever, I’m not communist or anything or part of a previous soviet state, I’m actually American.
I really love this anthem. It's funny to say but most of my friends and lots of people I know still can't memorize the modern variant of lyrics and whenever we are to sing the anthem, we just sing the Soviet variant. These words are a masterpiece of poetry and patriotism. There was a kind of a competition for new words for our anthem and unfortunately the accepted variant was not the best. An interesting fact - the author of both texts in one poet, Mihkalkov Sergey.
Stalin.... Change some words. We killed out NAZIS invaders and now are the NAZIS invaders. The world is breaking out NAZIS evil necks with sanctions. May our evil drove us back to the stone age for the glory of Putin. Then it will make sense... 🙂
I would Love to See Stalin telling me the weather ! Like: it is very cold out side and here you can see the fatest invader trying to invade glourios mother Russia during Winter. It can get very cold so you have to watch out for that Tiger Engine to not frez ! I am Comrad Joseph Stalin and I wish you all a good Day ! XD
@@Dr.mumbley I did actually, when he said that Russia didn’t have a word for fun I literally said “Do they really not have a word for fun?”
I'm from Russia but not from the USSR! why do you think that in Russia they drink vodka from the age of 12? why do you think that in Russia they wear dumb hats? in Russia it's not cold! russia is not one solid red square! it's the same as America, but in Russia they speak Russian! I am tired of this!
STEVE Yeah stereotypes are stupid. Like, I watch World Cup and I await match between Russia and Croatia because I live in Croatia but fell in love with Russia. My family says that I should cheer for my native team because "Russia didn't brought you anything". Bitch please. I learn their language and culture because I want to live there someday...
Rantaro Amami I respect you, russian is a very hard language and if you do manage to learn it, then consider yourself very lucky. Here in russia we love guests, we would welcome you with open arms. :)
Mikey Campf Wow, thanks. Actually I'm not so much popular and I don't think of myself as a cool person. This made my day ;) BTW if you want to, we can chat online or something
Word "Fun" can be translated as on of these words (depends on context) "Весело, Веселье, Веселиться, Удовольствие, Радость, Радостно, Забава, Забавно, Развлечение, Развлекать, Потеха, Потешатьс, Угар, Угарно, О*уенно, Збс"
Afaik the closest thing russian language has to the phrase "to have fun" is "хорошо провести время" which literally translates to "to have a good time" or, even more precise, "to spend time well". So, you know, if you're not having fun you're spending your time wrong :P

lol. Fact 43 ".. launched the first satellite, Sputnik. " Pretty much like saying Russia launched the first satellite satellite. Sputnik means satellite which is why I love that word.
Regarding the fact #40. Instead of word "fun", we have such words as: веселье, веселый, весело, смешной, смешно, умора, уморительный, уморительный and many others. Do not mix up with such word us as "заморить" which means "cause one's death from starvation".
Fun fact:- The architect who created The Taj Mahal, his hands were cut by the ruler at the time because he didn't wanted him to creat such a beautiful thing again.
If you could put Pluto in front of Russia its diameter is smaller than Russia from north to south and east to west. Sam isn't exactly wrong here, but should have made clear what he means by bigger.
Russia isn't communist. Donald Trump's political ideology aligns more so with the Libertarian Party. Neither Putin or Trump have ever acknowledged total support of one another.
Fact 102. Very small salaries. I work as a CNC operator and make parts for rocket engines. My salary is about $750 a month. This is considered a very high salary, but living here is not so cheap 😬
