I'm NOT a professional. But, I've done this technique successfully on myself. It's almost a year later and it's time to do it again. This is by far the best, clearest, detailed without endless yammering on an on an on🙄. Every word is purposeful and on point. Thank you!
You’ve got to be the only woman I’ve watched today that helped explain Balayage wonderfully! I had such a hard time in other videos trying to figure out where to start, how to start, tips or tricks, etc. You explained everything wonderfully, thank you for the info! I can’t wait to play with my hair! ❤️
I'm not a professional but i do stuff to my hair all the time lol, i followed your tutorial on my niece's hair, shes 6 and her hair is down to her waist its a very dark brown. She has been begging me to make her hair look like mine lol. So i did this, and turned out beautiful! It looks subtle, but with so much dimension and looks so natural, didn't even have to tone it. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing the head-sheets which demonstrated your sectioning that was extremely helpful. Maybe I'm still too new to the industry (only been licensed for three months) but when you said your lightening clay lifted up to 7 volumes I had so much anxiety just imagining that! Hopefully with time and practice I'll have more confidence with lightening in general, but I love balayage because of the freeform style of application and over all effortless appearance it gives.
I’m not even kidding when I’m saying that this video changed my balayage game !! I tried it once after watching your video and my balayage has never looked as good , using this technique ! I tend to overthink things and the way you broke down the process really clicked with me !! I’ve done like 20 balayage since watching this video and I’ve loved the results ! Thank you so much ! Best balayage video ever ❤️❤️
Great educational video - well explained and presented . Could you do lightening video explaining which technique is best for different situations and show hair lifting ( stages and when to rinse ) I've wimped out too early before then struggled with toning
Congratulations to this masterpiece of balayage 101 🙌🏻 I'm about to make it on my sisters hear. If I may...to colour the grey roots, should I do it first respecting the sections I'll use for the balayage or should I just colour the whole hair after ? Help✌🏼😅 💖
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching! We'd love for you to subscribe to our channel for more great videos like these! bit.ly/KenraProfessionalSubscribe
Amazing video, I never got taught balayage when I went to cosmo school years ago. I am going back to do new classes soon and these vids have helped me a lot. I can’t wait to try kenra balayage lightener etc too
Thank you so so much for making this video...from so may days I was wondering if how could I do balayage on my own bcoz I can't afford going to salon. And your video just really helped me
This is helpful but the second picture 3:35 you showed is not correct. The hairdresser is saying make lines going from back centre of top of horse shoe to top centre of ear. And when she demonstrates it by making sections, its also the same way as she explained. The lines in the image go in the other diagonal direction as far as i understood.
I actually prefer the foil technic cause it's more clean and professional. Also this hairdresser mixes the hair roots from the middle up on the roots, that's pretty wrong technic to use to the hairs cause it's damages the hair cells. I've seen a better application of balayage using a blender cream. I'm here to check out technics on this process and I believe the foil & blender cream is the best I've seen so far.
I did balayage on my daughters hair and I didn’t leave it on long enough in the very front. Is it ok to add more tomorrow when her hair is dry or is it best to wait?
Hi Whitney! You can add more right away. Just be sure to adjust the developer volume for the area you are lightening. You may want to use a lower volume developer for re-applying on previously lightened hair. Also, be sure to adjust your timing to prevent over-processing the hair.
Seems pretty easy to me..at least easier than foiling 😊 since it doesn't go all the way to the root, this isn't for people with graying hair though, is it?
You could do both! Depending on your application timing, you could do this together-- while the roots process, apply the balayage, or you could do this as a double process so you have more time and control.
For this client, the volume of developer was adjusted as Cassie worked her way of the head shape. She started with 20 volume in the back ad then switched to 30 volume at the top to catch up the processing time to the first sections applied.
Mam I'm semi tan skin with black long slight wavy hair and i need your help to know that which Color balayge or which full hair color will look good on me , can u help me .
“Vellus hair is short, thin, slight-colored, and barely noticeable hair that develops on most of a person's body during childhood. Exceptions include the lips, the back of the ear, the palm of the hand, the sole of the foot, some external genital areas, the navel, and scar tissue”
Just to be sure I understand what you’re saying if you’re standing behind your client and they part their hair on the left you make the diagonal sections left to right, left being the higher part of the line? Also, if the client parts their hair in the center what sections do you take in the top horseshoe section?
Great question! If you're standing behind the chair and your client parts their hair on the left, in the top mohawk section, you will take smaller diagonal subsections that look like / . If your client parts their hair on the right, you will take smaller diagonal subsections that look like \ . If your client parts their hair in the center, you can use a brick lay pattern and a combination of both diagonal forward and back subsections similar to the back of head section in this video. For a more solid end result, take smaller subsections. For a more dimensional result, use larger subsections.
Hi Louiza. That is a great question! Balayage technique is great for all types of hair. We suggest you have a thorough consultation with your stylist to make sure the integrity of your hair doesn't get compromised 😊
As a hairstylist I know how long and tedious this process can be! She did an absolutely beautiful job with the techniques and her explanations were flawless. She really hit all the points....even down to pricing! Wonderful job!
This is so enlightening. Every time I ask for a balayage, my hair stylists always separate my hair as if they’re doing highlights and I HATE the results. This is what I want
Tell them you want hand painted balayage no foils and make sure the specialize in this technique not all stylists like to do this application method or know how to.
I‘m screaming at my phone right now. I asked for a balayage from brown to mid-grey (so there was no need to have super bleached hair) and brought an inspiration photo with me. However, I have zero experience with dyeing hair or different techniques and the consultation had me believe that my hairdresser knew what I wanted. I left with weird highlights in blue, purple and pink (“it will wash out”). Needless to say, I‘ll be back there in a few days and pray that they are able to fix it. The colours do wash out but it’s still a damn mess. Thank you for the video, it provided a few very interesting details for me to “make my case” when I go back to the salon.
I wish I watched your video before I went to the salon. The hairdresser was supposed to be the best in the place. She didn't do any of the things you mentioned! She just took strands of my hair puffing them up towards my scalp very closely, like they do for rastas and then painted the rest. Then washed my hair and on a wet hair(!) she started brushing those tangles she made. I ended up with an entire head bleached with only the roots my normal colour. It was horrifying, now I will have to wait for years to get my beautiful long hair back.
This technique is great if you want a natural look. But if the client wants a lighter look like a shimmery silver white. Then I suggest doing it in foils and Teasing before applying to create a good flow. When bleach hits air it oxidizes itself and so therefore you don’t get the necessary lift . Placing bleach in foil Prevents the air to hit it and also traps in the moisture and allow the bleach to continue to lift.
I want to myself can you suggest any product? i like my hair to be little lighter than brown I've black hair. I researched and thought i would buy Revlon
Great tutorial! Would you avoid doing any balayage on the very top layer of hair if the client demands it? she still has some damage on just the very top layer and insists on not touching it with lightener at all, although I think it would not really damage it much further ( she has a level 6 with a bit of 5 on top.) and wants to achieve an overall dark golden ashy blonde balayage. Many thanks for your advice on this!
Excellent and straight to the point! Can you just explain to the Pros., why you are one of the only ( not ) heavy backcombing?? I’m not a fan because the snarly mess it creates. 🤯 def., a helpful tutorial, and I will continue to watch out for more Kenra in the future-as far as RU-vid goes, this was very well done! I love watching true Pros. Who are on here to teach and really help our Industry Blessings to all the Hair Artists out there 🥰👍
Hi Lori! So glad to hear you enjoyed this video and thank you for your feedback. Quick answer to your question. To balayage is to paint. The back combing provides a buffer for blending. Using the Simply Blonde Clay Lightener and a balayage technique, you do not need to back comb. In balayage, you are primarily painting the surface to create a natural lightened effect. ☺️
Hi Abdullah! We might recommend getting referrals from your friends who have hair that you admire. Depending on where you live, you can also do a search on area salons that might be a good fit. Once you've found a salon, having a thorough consultation with your stylist will also help to determine if they are right for you. Hope this helps!
