I have a question, being new to turning, I was wondering about sharping like one does for carving knives? I make my own knives and gouges for hand carving and after I get my edge, temper and clean up with a file, I use a buffing wheel and then just do touch up with a slip strop, so can one use a slip strop after getting the right bevel on the edge? I know with knives you want it to "slice" through the wood, is it the same with turning? replies welcomed.Thanks. =)

I still haven't gotten the process down for sharpening my skew chisel. Part of the problem is that I have a 6" grinder which only has 3/4" wide wheels and it runs at 3450rpm. I need to correct that situation and get it right so I can spend some time practicing on some trash wood.
