#102 1979 93ci shovelhead pro clutch install rivera rebuild repair FL FX harley by tatro machine
this was a very long project (as in over 10 years) for the customer before i took the job in to get it done. most of the parts were purchased many years before so my job was to use as much of those parts as i could along with a few updated parts to make a nice bike for the customer. as you can see we had lots of problems to work thru but in the end it turned out to be a good bike just the way kelly wanted it to be.

hey kelly, I noticed the oil cooler on the upright of your frame. are you satisfied with the results? i'm looking for an oil cooler.
@kellytracy104
@kellytracy104 7 лет назад
The oil coolers look better that they work because there are no baffles to allow for the oil heat to transfer and radiate
@hughjorgen9424

better off to spend 4--$500 on a jagg for results eh !! thanks

If I still had my original crash bar/ oil cooler frame bracket I would use something like a C&R racing transmission cooler for $60.00

5:47 I was sure he was gonna destroy the threads on the mainshaft- won’t start by hand? Hit it with an impact! So hard to watch

Love it! At 35:38, cant get neutral. “Shut it off!” Yup! Got shut my ‘84 shovel with riv primo 5 speed off to get neutral. PS...love the info in all your vids, a BIG help. I’m new to big twins. Do my own wrenching. It’s a learning curve alright.

Thank you Tatro. Your wealth of knowledge is extremely valuable to the future of old bikes. One question. So many varying answers for the amount of primary fluid. Some say 6 ounces, some say 20, some say just to the chain. (Chain drive). 82 fxe. Thanks!!

By the way Tatro you can let him know that Rivera makes a diaphragm clutch spring in 3 diffrent classes Black, Sliver and Gold for different class of bike .... Cheers from Down Under. ..

Thank you Tazza, yeah I'm running the silver street strip diaphragm so I could try the black milder diaphragm .

Have a Primo Rivera clutch on my bike a it is a heavy clutch but it works well with the S&S 107c , but if I had the money I would of gone with a Barnett clutch instead ..... So Tatro what do you think of the Rivera clutch there ? Cheer from Down Under. ....

10:20 you can use a regular steering wheel puller on a rivera pro clutch.
@johnmartlew5897
@johnmartlew5897 4 года назад
radarsonwheels1 .......NO! I used one and the push rod got forced back enough to shatter the thrust washers and roller bearing on the other end of the rod. The damage could have been very expensive. Hammering down the push rod axis is seriously risky. I made a puller tool like the factory one, that uses an air hammer.....force is circular to the rod axis.

John Martlew dude you obviously need to use a socket or spacer to push on of course you can’t push against the throwout bearing with the pushrod! Funny after using a steering wheel puller for years I encountered a super stubborn one and added the rivera tool to my box- it works awesome. Even the rivera tool comes with spacers for 4/5spd applications that keep you from pressing on the pushrod. If I remember correctly I used to back the nut off a few threads from tight and put a socket over that to space out and center the force.

I'm sure after the rebuild it had to be redone again... I'm sure a lot of the pieces came loose from lack of threadlock and over tightening the nut...

Hey tattoo?hav you done any vids on rebuilding keihin butterfly carbs...like 80-82 I figured you must have but, I can't find any and I'm presently doing mine on my 82 Roadster and could use any help you'd be willing too share, thanks and please keep making the vids... I learn stuff from almost every one! Thanks again and much respect for what you do! Sincerely, Kevin M.

no, they are junk carbs and are not rebuildable. no parts are available to fix them. all you can get is gaskets, nothing else to rebuild them. i stopped wasting time on these carbs in the 1980's. tatro

nice clutch but I think hardly worth the price on a street shovel. stock plates and disks would have worked fine, but it's his money.

Nope, I smoked the upgraded early stock style clutch with Barnett plates in the first two days BTW my 93" motor is ALL l high performance not just a kit, it's putting out twice the HP of the stock 80" motor :-)
