The beauty of the Kenwood 520 and the Yeasu 101E are unmatched in my book except for the Collins gear. My very first HF Ham rig was a FT-101E. For years I collected the entire station. 6 and 2 meter transporters, watt meter dummy load, scope, 2100 B Amp. Acc Acc. I still own a 520 and 101E transceiver with some spare parts radios. But my collected 101E station was sold to a gentleman in Texas as a gift for his wife on their anniversary. My current 101E looks new out of the box with still the plastic cover on its face. I hope to get my radio room set up this spring and get back on the air. 73s and great rigs. KF4TVF Bill in Tennessee.... .....
That FT-101EE brought back happy memories to me. That was the first new transceiver I ever bought back in the 70's. Well, perhaps the second one because I bought and built a new Heathkit HW-101 then too. But the FT-101EE was a great rig. Wish I still had it. The only difference from the FT-101E model was the E model had a built-in Speech Processor. I built an audio speech processor from an ARRL Handbook project that worked great with this radio. Good video, Buddy. Thank you for sharing with us.73 DE K7RMJ Frank
Cool deal Frank. I love these 101's. Sometime in the future we will be rebuilding a HW-101. Have one sitting here under the bench that needs a lot of TLC. Thanks for stopping in.
Buddy you also need the last FT 101 that was made and that one is the 101ZD, which has a different set of finals in it. The finals in it are the same as the finals in the TS 520, 6146's with a 12BY7 driver. Anyway that would give you all the Ft 101 series that I know of. FB on all the work that you do on all the equipment that you work on. Wish I had the sight to do half the work that you do on all the equipmnet that you repair. I'm looking for an hf station, well rig to get back on the air with myself but will have to put it on hold since I have the common problem called lack of funds to purchase one that I could use easily since I'm legally blind. Take care and I'm glad to see that you finally got yourself a good set of wire strippers. I have a set of Klein wire strippers myself that I got way back in 1980 and they work very well indeed. 73, Randy N4OHO
Thanks for the help, for it is greatly appreciated. A friend of mine was telling me about a contest that goes on during each Febuary that uses old equipment like the Heathkit DX 40 or similar transmitter and whatever type of receiver you can use with that type of transmitter. I don't know if I could actually use that type of rig, but then my uncle was totally blind using an old Swan rig. Hope you get an old 101ZD to go along with all the rest of the 101's that you have. Other than having the WARC bands what is the difference between the Kenwood 520se and the Kenwood 530s? Randy
Love the tour of your radio shack and your love of old radios. I thought I was the only one that did some collecting. Just received a pack of capacitors for my FT-101E and TS-830S so that will keep me busy for a while. Now I only need the time to do the repairs. Please keep up the great work. Lyle
Buddy I know how you feel my garage has more square footage than my house, and it is packed with everyting that I really do not use. I have almost a full TS 520 station now. Believe there is a monitor but not sure, should be a real bear to find. But will not give up easily. Passed my test today and moved up to General ( no need to salute ) 40 years as a Tech. Started with a TS-520 in 1977 I do love them. Keep teaching me, you are doing a great job of it. Thank You Buddy
Funny how things can find their way into your space lol. About every inch of the shop is full. Glad to hear you have a full station coming together. It will be a blast to operate. Thanks for the king\d words and for watching. BTW, congraz on the upgrade. I was a V/UHF nut and was not interested in HF till a few years ago.
It’s impossible to take rigs out of circulation. I have the same problem with guitars and amplifiers and stereo music amps and speakers it’s a disease with me. You have so many nice rigs. Thanks for sharing Buddy love your videos.
Hi Buddy, Appears we both have the same problem, to many things to get done and not enough time. On top of that I'm working around chronic low back pain and my dad is in the hospital. He recently had a pacemaker implanted and is doing well. Should be coming home on Friday. :-) 73 WB3BJU
Donald, sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope all is fine now. Know what you mean about back pain. It is a daily issue I face. Yes so much to do so little time. Thanks for stopping in Donald.
Hi John nice to see you frequent here too! You are right I have far too much stuff and unfortunately not as tidy as some. I'll have to clear my 2nd office to do any more videos!!
Thanks Peter. The CRF 320 is close to 3 hour long video. I have to edit some of it down. Think you will like those. The 320 sold for 4 grand and the V21 was around 6 grand new. They hold their value pretty good also. It is an honor to work on.
Dino Papas My problem is its spread through multiple buildings and a significant amount of parts inventory and parts chassis are on pallet racking. Not much to see there but rows and rows of shelves of pallet racking with numbered bins and barcode on the end.
Hi ---- Using a lighter is not a good idea to strip wire. The heated chemicals in the wire insulation will mix with the wire strands and prohibit a clean tinning of the wire strands. This is important for a proper solder joint. Simply, don't do it. Ever.
LOL. Your in the same boat as me, never enough room. God forbid either of us is in an earthquake. I can imagine the newspaper headlines the next day. "Local man dies in avalanche of radios during recent earthquqke."
Buddy , Sorry to tell ya , we may be related , you remember Ma & Pa Kettle . Pa Kettle was aways using the term " one of these days " about things to be done . We both use that term , so we maybe long lost kin ;) - sorry to say Hi-Hi . John KD0CAC
