Nice tilling, Ed. That ground worked up really well. I haven't had a need to till yet this spring/summer, but ours will get lots of use in November putting in acres of food plots!
Great video ED! I was late this year as well planting corn on June 6th. I have a 48 inch tiller and need to be in low/4 wheel drive on my 1025r. If not my tire will spin..

First! Nice overview, Ed! I agree with everything you said, so I guess I am doing things correctly. However, I did hit a large rock with my forward tiller and caused some damage. The tines caught the rock and the tiller got pulled down into towards the ground, bent my top link and did some damage to my backhoe hoses. I am glad that was the extent of the damage! Thanks for sharing. - Rick
This size tiller is too big for the BX series. But you can get a 48 inch that would work. It’s not uncommon to have the size the driveshaft for your specific tractor. Especially if you are using a quick hitch. If you buy the tiller from your Kubota dealer they may set it up for you. Good luck!
Great video ED. I'm thinking of buying the same tiller for my B2601. The Land Pride site says, "NOTE: Quick-Hitch may require a longer driveline, which is available through Land Pride Parts.". I currently use a Land Pride quick-hitch. Did you find you needed a longer driveline (extension?) to hook up your tiller? Thanks again.
Thank you! I bought mine with the tractor so I’m not sure if the dealer had to cut it to fit. But I added a quick hitch later, so I have to use a PTO extension - which works really well. Here’s an affiliate link if you’re interested. PTO Extender: a.co/d/b1ZRxZF
I bought me a tarriver dlt-050 for my bx1880. Unfortunately, it wont align up with my qh05 quickhitch. I guess zif I could have paid $1500 more, I coukd have gotten a landpride that would have been qh compatiable. Its rated for 15-2/ hp, so my bx is just above the minimum hp requirements. 12-20 pto hp, is whaymt dealer told me. Mine is 13.7 pto hp, and 16.6 hp. I'll just take it sliw and easy and hopefully, not run into any rocks or anything else. I need to watch a video to know how to test slip clutch like NeilMessicks said to do. I guess if it seizes up, it could do a lot of damage. I'll post videos once I getthem made later in spring hopefully in coming weeks.
In regards to slipping the clutch, One guy said to run the nut all the way out and then finger tighten. Once finger tight, tighten 1.5 turns only with a wrench.
Hi Ed! Thanks for the great review on the tiller! After hearing what you said and seeing it in action, I’m convinced I’d get a forward rotating tiller for my property. Thanks for sharing!
I’d love a tiller, but my wife would become a killer!!🤣 We do the “Back to Eden” gardening so we don’t till our gardens. But I’m hoping to still talk her into one for other projects!!🙏🏻👍🏻 So, why “Notch” for the dogs name? Or did I misunderstand? It’s sure different!! Oh, and I enjoyed as much you talking about the tiller, as I did seeing it in action!!
Great overview and tips Ed. I bet running the tiller gives a guy a good sense of accomplishment plus you get to tear up some ground. Lol. Just curious was there a big price difference between the forward and reverse, Chain vs gear drive tillers? Great video Ed. Take care and all the best. 👋
I'm getting ready to buy a 2601 with a brush hog, front end loader, and a tiller. This video is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for your videos, they are a great help for me being a new tractor owner.
Totally agree with you Ed. My little 3025 John Deere only has about 20 HP @ the PTO. A reverse rotation would rob a lotta power, but like you said I think the first pass is normally better. Great video my friend.
Honestly my tiller is the easiest attachment I own to hook up it has pins that get installed rather than pins welded on the tiller. The hardest item I have is a 6 ft straw rake. There is a guy BTW on another channel that uses a flail mower for tilling.
Morning Ed, nice review, a tiller is something I’d like to have but not sure where I’m going to use it after the garden is done. Have a great Father’s Day weekend!👍🏼🚜🇨🇦🇺🇸🌴🧉
Check if your dealer rents them. Mine does - and it was surprisingly affordable as a "one day" rental over a weekend, at least for the RTR0550 they handed me. Even if I rented it once a year it'd take me close to two decades to break even on buying one.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it looked like your P.T.O. output shaft was very loose and wobbling all over the place when you were hooking up the drive shaft. Did you notice it or am I seeing things. Hope I'm wrong.
@@MyClutteredGarage I probably watched the video of your other item you added on but just didn't remember. I watch all your videos cuz I like watching them. Glad I'm wrong thanks for the reply.
I bought the countyline 4ft tiller from tractor supply. Brought it home, got it pot together and one use the steel where the metal pins hook to the lower arms bent.... I immediately returned it but it was a huge pain in the ass to get together and hook up to my BX tractor.... Any idea what might have caused the, to bend?
Nice video Ed.. I have a reverse rotation Landpride RGR1258 tiller, and you're correct, they're hard to pull, especially in loose material. I may need to trade for a forward rotation unit. My tires are spinning and digging quite often, I have an LX2610 Kubota..
Im clearing some brush to extend my yard for a garden and theres several young trees/ saplings im cutting down with between 1-3 inch diameter. Would this tiller be able to work those out or is it not really made for that type of work. Any recomendations on how to get everything loose for planting.
Hi. Maybe up to 1 inch, but that might even be pushing it. You’d be best to try to remove them with a stump bucket, or backhoe. A stump grinder may also do the trick. Thanks for watching and good luck!
A tiller is not meant to break through solid sod or packed soil. You need to disk that ground first to break it open. Also, any respectable farmer will tell you "don't work wet soil". If you are tilling to dry out your soil, then it's too wet to be on and you are only making the compaction worse. Tractors have been working soil for almost a hundred years before a 4 wheel drive tractor was invented, so obviously if you need that 4 wheel drive to get it done, then you are expecting too much out of your implements.
