I tried the 1080 v10 last year and loved them so much that I bought a second pair. I underwent surgery and have to wait before I can use them but cannot wait go running again. Agree with you, not tuned in for speed work but very comfortable. The upper is heaven
I have this and a 2017 model of adidas supernova (glued 2 dozen times because it is falling apart). Why have I not binned that old adidas? It is because 1080 v11 is nowhere near the comfort and response.
@@MattD86 Its an online joke thing where when someone “memes” they crank the audio level up so loud that it distorts like crazy, usually for comedic effect.
The doggies running with you is too cool. I love the NB1080 V10. May need to stock up on it instead of the V11. Also beware of the sound jump at 9:25 to about 10:25, it can be jolting.
Great review ! The part where you told about landing on the forefoot-- is exactly what I always need to hear about a shoe. This really has helped. ( I have a neuroma and need that padding ). And this is where I usually land first. Lots of reviewers forget to mention that. Thanks !
I think I may have a neuroma or something like it in my right foot where some shoes just hit me the wrong way. most of the time, it's asymptomatic. but some shoes can give me some discomfort
I got this shoes about a month ago. As a wide foot/pronator runner I absolutely love them. It’s cushioned but responsive enough not to feel as you are sinking on the foam. I had no problem with the flared heel. Super happy with them
Nice review Michael, got the 1080 V11, love it as a long-run recovery shoe and although I like the shoe, the heel counter doesn't give me a firm and snug lockdown. The heel feels loose to the point where the ankle begins to feel sore and unsupported. It also has a wider toe box and the material heats up,. I tried doing strides with this shoe and it's not great for quick sprints due to the loose heel counter, but quick enough for progressive runs, a great shoe for a steady pace. I guess I prefer snug-fitting shoes with a good lock-down.
The 1080v11 is typically recommended for under pronators (supinators) since it has that cushion going out around the outside edge of the shoe. However, that fresh foam can condense easily if you really supinate.
Hey Ko, great review as always. I have the same experience with pain to my forefoot forcing me to adapt a heel landing with this shoe. The shoe is good up to 10 km for me and after that it starts to hurt, 12 km is the max for me with this shoe, my foot is going numb by then. First I thought it was because my height and weight at 6’1” and 195 lbs but after your review I think that might not be the case. As you I can’t use it for recovery runs either. I haven’t had any issue with the heel cup though. Keep up the good work, Dave.
I have (as of this comment) 438 miles on my 1080v11 (for reference, im 5'9 152lb) and they still work just as well as the day I got them. This thing is solid. Tiny bit of wear in the upper and in the rubber and the midsole looks great.
I live where you're running on rolling hills most of the time. That heel slip was a problem for me in these shoes. They've been relagated to my walking around shoes. The More v3 works fine on the hills, when I need a cushioned shoe. The Peg 38 fits my foot fine for heel lockdown, and so does the NB Rebel v2. It's funny that the 1080 was the only shoe that just didn't lock down my heel.
I'm a heavier runner and didn't get on with it at all. Like you, it forced me onto more of the heel. Also my right heel rolled inwards so badly, that some random triathlete coming from behind stopped his bike and told me about severe overpronation in my right foot. Now that doesn't happen everyday I tell you. Had to get rid of them immidiately.
oh yes I have been waiting for this review!!!! thank you. I have used 3 NB 1080v11 different colors over 900KM total..every time I try buying another brand or model I just end up buying a new color of this NB 1080v11...help me!! I bought the blue, black, grey and now red and hopefully the yellow 🥳
I think there are a lot of people out there for whom this shoe will be so good. I'd say, if it's working for you, don't fight it, double down. the all-white looks interesting to me, as well.
it had been a while, so I really wasn't sure what the reception would be. but it seemed we picked up where we left off. I really do hope their owners aren't upset about the running. I just don't know how to get them to not-follow.
Love the footage with these friendly dogs. Just got back into running again on my old glycerin 15’s and i wanna switch to the new 19’s. Thumbs up for these great video’s and reviews.
In my opinion, every shoe acts/reacts different for everyone. Some people love a shoe, while some people can't stand a shoe. I can't stand my Saucony Triumph 17. Every review I saw and heard, was how great it is. For my thighs is sore during my first mile and really sore on my forth mile. 4-5 days later, I can run again. (BUT) now I tape my thighs in order for me to run on my regular time frame, which is every other day.
Those dogs loved that run didn’t they 🙌I didn’t enjoy the 1080 v8 as much as I wanted to when I tried that but definitely looking to give it another shot in the newer versions
The exposed foam on the outsoles of my pair is falling apart after 240 miles, and they no longer feel at all bouncy. They will soon be relegated to casual or gardening wear, and I shall not replace them with the same model.
I just got a pair and have only done one 6 mile run in them, but the heel cup really worked for me, feeling completely locked down. I did go down 1/2 a size in this model though.
I returned my cumulus 23, nimbus, for these guys. These shoes mold to my feet. They kind of feel like Free Runs but with like 4 inches of foam lol. I’m actually enjoying running and I’m not in pain after running like I was with ASICS and Ghost
I totally agree about the heel; it does feel very sloppy and I just hope I can continue to use them for what I bought them for - as a daily workhorse for moderate/easy pace across very light packed gravel path and road - without this beginning to aggravate me. Insofar as comfort and cushioning, I don't think it's in the same league as Fuelcell which I prefer by a long long way.
Thanks Mike- just found them on Woot (limited sizes but including some 'middle' sizes like my 9.5) for $69. This confirmed worth grabbing a pair just for racking up miles.
Had about 550k on my 1080v11 when I retired them. The midsole just wasn't the same anymore and gave me plenty of niggles, probably because the foam caved in at the ball of my feet, right behind the big toe. Disappointed, considering I ordered them on day 1 from the New Balance website and paid 180€ for it. However, on sale for 100€ I would buy them again.
I loved this shoe so much (my 2nd Best shoe of 2021) that why I'm interested to see if I will run even better with the Vongo V5 next. Anyways the 1080v11 hold up very well and it gave me lots of pleasure runs even with my moderate overpronation of my left foot . I was very impressed about that durability, that the shoe would not last enough and I would not like it. Go NB go !
I noticed the forefoot issue on my v10s, which I like a lot, but I agree they do not like forefoot strike. I actually once got lightheaded while running up a flight of stairs from what felt like repetitive impact on the forefoot, almost like a funny bone effect. Either way, the v10 is my go to for long miles.
the fortunate thing for me is that shifting back to a more midfoot strike for a little bit seems to alleviate the issue (plus, landing further back on the high stack height towards the heel is pleasantly squishy). for some shoes where I've experienced a similar forefoot issue, there's nothing I can do to rescue the run
It was supremely cushy and comfortable walking around in this, but like you the ball of my feet felt sore 3-4km into a run. I could somehow feel some grooves below the ball of my feet, not sure if i have a defective pair. The heel slipped and required tight lacing. Not the best experience on my first NB. Now on Novablast2, a far better ride.
A few hundred km into my pair and I've found the midsole to be amazing and no real problems with the outsole. The upper has been the main problem for me with my heel slipping quite a bit (although pushing the insole up fixes it somewhat) and also the heel cup on the right side has cracked in half which while I still run on it is something I watch. Love freshfoam and for my next daily I am probably going to stay with it just with a more structured upper.
Great review as always. Tried to like the V10 but it was a real disappointment to be. Felt clunky and unforgiving. 100 miles of use and now gathering dust. Staying with Novablast and Speed as they suit me better. Horses for courses.
I have run about 190k on my v11 and looks to have about the same type of wear on the outsoles, with more wear on the left foot. I’m also feeling that the heel cup isn’t feeling as comfortable as when they were new. Maybe that’s due to me having to loosen my laces to ease an odd lace pressure on the top of my feet when I cinch down the laces to my preferred tightness.
I've had some problems using the v10 as a recovery shoe so I can imagine it's more of the same here, I find it "too responsive" to use as a recovery shoe, I recently got the More v3 and it's now taken the role of recovery shoe for me, I still ran the 1080 v10 to the ground though just because it felt so good to run in, I just didn't use it as a recovery shoe
Great review. Thank you. The heel on the v11 does not feel secure. The v9 had a different heel cup design which cradled the heel much more securely. I've been using the New Balance 1080's for years now but after my trials with the v11, I am looking for another shoe. Any suggestions? I have a supination gate.
I have been using 1080 V10 and it has been my favorite. I heard about the loose heel counter but turns out no problem at all. Now over half a year, the outsole worn out showing the midsole material. Time to find a replacement. The v10 are now hard to find. I really have to go to V11 with lots and lots of concern and hesitation.
Thanks for this awesome review! I’ve been a v10 loyalist since early 2020 and just cracked open my first pair of v11s. Very similar ride, EXCEPT I’ve had issues with the tongue rubbing the inside of my ankle. Have you or anyone else experienced this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I wish the 1080s worked for me but they're too squishy for my apparently weak ankles. I always assumed that it was the shoes but it seems that I overpronate. The instability isn't really a problem but on longer runs (well long for me) my feet move around (probably the stretchy upper) and they start to feel uncomfortable. I'm hoping to pick up the Vongo 5s in hopes that will be the ticket.
These shoes have almost non existent grip on wet roads. Otherwise the heel and the rest of the shoe work fine for me. The high stack height make it a little less stable but i enjoy running on bouncy foam.
Love the footage around 7:20 with the joyful black dog following your black shoes! Glad the dogs are back. They never forget a scent of anything or anyone so of course they picked up where you left off with them. BTW, does anyone need a Brooks dog leash that I got for free with my last shoe order? I don’t have a dog, much as I’d like one! Martha
Hey bro, thanks for this review. I felt the same about the heel. May I ask if you're gonna review the new balance bingo V5? Really like your content a lot man👍🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💪💪💪😇
I’m not sold on the 1080v11. I don’t find it comfortable at all. They feel really firm to me and my legs just don’t appreciate them. I liked my Beacon v2 much better. It was lighter, faster, and actually much softer to me. The flag store in Berlin didn’t have any Beacons or More+ v3’s so I landed on these and I’m not happy. Really want to try the More’s or Nike invincible.
@@kofuzi I’d love to if I could find a black pair in the whole of Europe🤷🏼♂️. I need to watch your more vs invincible vid again. Plenty of invincible around.
I am thinking of getting the 1080v11 or the Saucony Ride 14 as a recovery run type of shoe. Which would you think is better suited for that? Or do you maybe have another suggestion for a recovery run shoe?
It sounds like a lot of people loved the v10 and new balance tweaked the formula in the wrong ways. Just keep the v10 and give it the heel that’s on the new vongo. Then maybe not charge 150$…
Only cushion and absolutely no return of energy (not a good feeling while running for me) Hoka Cliftons are more balanced with more cushion but also some 'bounce' to them
the 100 mile mark is an arbitrary round number that I chose a while ago for all my long term reviews. it's not a statement of what the end of usable life is
I wanted to love this shoe like I loved my 1080 v10's but they were definitely off. The fit is all wrong, the sizing was off. I tried so many sizes and they were either too small or too big. Also, is no one going to talk about that weird lump in the heel of the shoe? It's so odd and just feels like something is stuck in the back of my shoe or I need to re-adjust my sock or something. The cushion feels good but it's just not as good as the V10s's. These were awful and frankly, I don't know why New Balance felt the need to fix something that wasn't broken.
