Good video big boy! Always fun to experiment with antennas and equipment. Hard to beat hands on, real time experimenting. Also great example of operating procedures, showing how well courtesy and patience is a big part of the communication process. Jeff WD5HKV
Playing around with antennas is one of my favorite things to do in the hobby :) TenTenna makes great stuff. I can highly recommend his products, both from a quality perspective and a price point. I use his 49:1 for multiple antenna configurations including a 40-10 efhw (which for me ended up being about 63.x ft ymmv). I generally do not use any form of counterpoise ( I've been experimenting with a 6 ft counterpoise, but the jury is still out) and I run a choke at the feedpoint. I've also lately been experimenting with deploying the 40-10 in an inverted V and I am liking that configuration better for non-NVIS stuff. You can also take that 49:1 and with a 17ft whip, a little wire, some pvc, and a 3/8 x 24 coupler you can make a decently performing 1/2 wave vertical for 10-15m. I use it when doing POTA sometimes if I want to avoid radials.
At 7:27 in this video you said that you have these antennas in big winds... Us old-timers always say that if your antenna survives through the winter, your antenna isn't big enough! Great video !
Always love the 10m videos, thanks for making. If any Techs on a tight budget want to try out a really easy 10m antenna to make that costs practically nothing, check my QRZ page out for the plan of my centre fed vertically orientated, vertically polarized, delta loop. Made out of reclaimed wire and a choc block, no balun or matching stub required because the 39 degrees angle at the feed point puts it near 50 ohm. Only a 1/4 wave high so fits in my loft/attic pinned to the rafters.. you'd need a couple of supports to put it outside. Works great for local because of the vertical polarization, but also throws out low angle radiation so great for DX too. A different type of very simple antenna for Techs to have a go with if they want something different to a dipole. 2E0LMI, 73s
thanks!!! ill check out your qrz and try to remember to mention it in a video! 10m has always been my favorite band and i try to do what ever i can to encourage new hams! 73!!
