Hello I have seen some of your auto repair videos I want to know do you repair the transmission body valve I have a 2006 infinite g35 x the car driver but want shift correctly and my check engine light is on the code reads transmission body valve solenoid
We’re in the process of inventing a repair kit for this problem for the 10R140 and soon after the 10R80. It’s allows you to snap ring the bushing in place, very cheap. We should have it live soon.
Hiram inspired me to get in to transmissions and now I build these transmissions daily for a ford dealer I work for. Keep up the good work Hiram cause theres a lot of transmission guys out there that are quick to just replace instead of repairing a bad transmission. I do believe Ford is working on redesigning this drum tho.
I'm glad to hear that Ford might be working on updating the drum. Downside is you guys will see it before we do. But it's actually good news for everyone. Changing the subject; you that works as a dealer tech can confirm the myth that everyone says "But it only has 80,000 miles, it can't be bad already..." What's the lowest mileage you've seen in one of these? Including reflash for Drive ability issues. Or any vehicle you guys work on. I'm glad you chose transmission repair it's kind of interesting and sometimes challenging.
@@AutomaticTransmission As soon as I find anything on the updated drum I will update you guys. I have seen damaged drums with miles as low as 40k, as a matter fact I just did a navigator this week with 43k miles. I have also seen 10R60 with 12k miles with cluth A retaining ring busting off.
@@AutomaticTransmission Just had mine done under warranty. 2020 3.5L Eco, 49k miles. 8 weeks at the dealer. Receipt confirms updated hub, JL3Z-7H351-B.
I am trying to get this repaired now in my Tahoe with a 6.2 10L80 they had it for a month and then they tell me the parts were checked in but are lost…. Still waiting . I am so happy you made this video! Thank you!
This is a common issues with these units I work at a ford dealership we just replace the drum and also the e clutch drum tends to get scorn. You can move the sleeve back Into place but it will move again I had a few return after installing a new drum so it’s a flawed design, hopefully the aftermarket can come up with a solution. Plus ford has those drums on back order so good luck
I really enjoy your videos. I’m currently working with these 10 speed trans and I’m seeing the sleeve move on higher mileage vehicles mostly. Lower mileage or more city driven seems to be holding up. I believe 7H351 CDF DRUM will be updated with new part from Ford. Upcoming TSB
do you know if TSB out for this yet. Hving this issue 2018 f150. 152,000 km Hard upshift downshift 7-8 and hard downshift 5-4. Local trans shop saying $4000 to repair
I am putting a new C,D,F drum in a 10R80 now. It looks to me like there may now be a step machined on the inside of the drum that prevents the bushing from being able to walk down. This new one is p/n RFHL3P-7P182-CB where the damaged drum is RFHL3P-7P182-CA. Ford has for a long while (I’m sure you know) gone up a letter in the alphabet when the part has been redesigned….CA to CB. I can clearly see a step similar to the pump bushing in a 4L60.
My 2022 Ranger is currently at the dealership for this issue. About how long did it take for the repair (from the time parts get ordered to off the stand and driveable)?
I’m still a relatively new builder. Been a professional tech for more than 30 years but only building a couple years now. I have rebuilt 2 10R80’s now, both getting C,D,F drums (updated part), outer drums, and general rebuilds w clutches, bushings, seals, etc. I’m not fast. LOL! The first took me three days by the time I pulled it, rebuilt it, reinstalled, then shipped. I shaved a full day of the second. I’m sure a young dealer tech can easily knock one out in a day or less. Especially as many as I’m told some are actually doing.

A lot of you who rebuild transmission remember the 700R4 and the front seal and pump bushing would come forward and the fix was wired wheel the paint off the seal and put red locktite on both to stop that problem sounds like the same problem what happens to aluminum when gets hot the bushing moves
Impressive video! The 10R80 transmission in my new condition 2019 F150 shifts horribly and at time it will shift so hard it feels like someone hit it with a 20lb sledgehammer. Ford isnt fixing it because they say they are not getting the needed DTC codes during diagnostic test.
They literally told me to "wait for it to break" bc they didnt find any transmission codes. I raised hell with the general manager and they brought it back in and did the TCM/PCM adaptive shift reprogram. That helped for ~2months...its starting to clunk again though.
You are correct. I'll use caps to help others read it: JL3Z-7H351-B Been waiting for this part for a month and now supposed to be available Oct 15th, but we'll see...
So watch out on these!!! There are at least 4 different part #’s for the 10R80! Check the TSB and make sure you are ordering the part that fits the vehicle you are building for! The snap ring grooves are in different depths and clutch clearance will be WAY off!
Hey Hiram I built a 700r4 no reverse pressure test idle 170 psi. I made a mess. Customer well child hood friend. Wanted 4x4 case his trans non aux.only one I could find 86 case first #6 . I put his parts non aux in a later case. I drilled hole through rib just in case use later pump plate valve body
Добрый день. Только разобрал коробку такая же проблема. Можно исправить подложив подходяшую шаибу под подшипкик , уменьшить зазор от давления ступицу выталкивает и тефлон выходет.
Hey Friend, I have a 10r80in my 2018 F-150, it has all the symptoms in the TSB 23-2250, relearned the transmission about a month ago and the issue has persisted. Has the new Drum resolved the issue? I'm starting to wonder if pinning the bushing in place with a brass pin would resolve the issue. I purchased a 2005 F150 basically as a "long term rental" and am still unsure whether its worth fixing my 2018.
My 18 expedition is in the shop right now with a P076f 7th gear ratio code. Shop believes it is having this problem and awaiting a rebuild. Supposedly parts were ordered 3 weeks ago... I have no warranty on the vehicle (r title). It makes me feel at ease knowing that a $4k rebuild probably won't give me any more longevity... Ugh
I've been getting a clunk or "tunk" noise while breaking for lights. While downshifting on 5th, 3rd and 1st. It almost sounds like a metal wire has tension on it and it keeps slipping or being pulled on from thr side like a guitar string. No idea what's going on with the transmission but I can feel the noise in my foot and it's clearly coming from the transmission. I drive a 2022 Ford mustang mach 1 with 5k miles. Dealership is lost. They swapped the valve body and PCM and nothing is fixed
I would just file lawsuit ford isn’t responsible for anything bask me how I know they will sell you a pile of shit then play the band aid game when the client files lawsuit ford doesn’t answer for 18 months now it will be close to 3 years when court is settled when they refuse to admit the transmission has issues yet this shows me they just refuse service because of my lawsuit
Any more information on this? I have a new Ranger on order which is on its way from the Silverton plant in South Africa. I’m hoping that all the issues have been sorted by Ford by now.
Hey man I been watching your videos for years and wanted to see if you would be interested in a challenge. There's a utuber named whistling diesel he's built the biggest truck in the world that has 2 automatic transmissions in it. They need to figure out how to synchronize them. The truck is at diesel Dan's performance shop if you could help out. Pays great and you'll love the truck if you haven't seen it.
Hello Hiram! I love your videos! ? Question I have a 1979 ford f100 with the c4 transmission that has leaking shaft seals. I’m going to have to drop the valve body, I’m worried, should I use a torque wrench when reinstalling the valve bolts? I heard that a transmission can be damaged if bolts are to tight? What are the specs for a C4 tranny😊🤝?
I am seeking for an answer from an expert. I have a problem with 3-4-5 gear slipping sometimes, not all the time , but 80% of the time at 50-70% acceleration. Is this the problem that causes my 10r80 slip or is a software issue ? I have replaced the valve body but the problem persisted. Thanks
Hey man how u doing I have alot of extra parts for a 4l60e transmission and I was wondering if I could donate them to u since u helped me in a big way with ur videos and to show my appreciation for your help Let me know thanks again
At what kind of mileage does this wear and failure generally occur? I have a new Ranger on order and I’m kind of worried about this transmission’s long term reliability.
@@AutomaticTransmission I’m hoping that they have modified the offending bearing or seal during a production campaign. However, I have heard it all before. However there was the same story around the reliability of the 6 speed but I have run one for 9 years in a Ranger, towing 3.5 tons very regularly, and it has been faultless so far.
Hello, what is the name of your shop? I heard you’re in Houston and so am I. I have a 44re in need of a rebuild and would like to use your service. Thank you
I don’t mean to be an ass, but this video was 9.5 mins of just saying “this drum and bushing are bad and worn out”… zero other information on what symptoms to expect, or what would cause it🤦🏽♂️I honestly don’t understand the purpose of this video. And you say “this is the most common problem”, ok, great, but WHAT did t the customer say is the symptom??
Mine failed in this same manner with only 60k easy miles. The symptoms are overheating, taking a long time engaging the next gear and occasional very hard shifting.
