I'm a recently retired Boilermaker, and worked on some very large repairs on mining equipment like draglines and shovels. But that crusher kinda scared me a bit. Holy moly I was watching the setup and the preheating steps, and was thinking how you were actually gonna get into those pockets to physically weld? I mean, essentially after the preheating with the space heaters and torch, those "oven spaces" must have been hot enough to bake a chicken! And the extended torch, wasn't just a godsend, it was key! You're truly a testament to work ethic. I can't imagine too many people on the planet who would sit all day in front of an open oven door, and perform this methodical work. You give us all inspiration for whenever we may whine about the difficulties of our jobs. Thanks for sharing this!!!

One of the most impressive and informative videos I have seen! Simply amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your skills and profession. I am from Mequon, Wisconsin, USA and in the early 1990s built the electrical controls for Telsmith Rock Crushers

Wow. What a massive job. Are you allowed to share with us the approximate cost of such a repair? Also would be interesting to know what a new part would cost. Great work.

@myselfremade For a 2 month job it would have to be $ 65,000 just for labour or the factory will not be turning a profit , that is without consumables and materials. That is assuming a 40 hour week. Factory floor space is worth $ Staff wages , insurance , power , gases , consumables , and add the cost of a box of aspirin for the guy paying the bills.

@myselfremade my guess would be $ 165,000 to buy one assuming there was one available , you might find there is a 5 month wait to get one made if the crusher is a 30 + year old item

@myselfremadea custom cast piece of kit will have a lead time of several months, sometimes repairing it and swallowing the huge costs associated are the only option. I work in the steel industry and we recently had a quote from an OEM of a 24 month lead time for a no longer produced gearbox.
