11.000RPM Toyota Starlet On the Limit || 4AGE Swapped Monster Onboard

Probably the most developed Toyota Starlet RWD in HillClimb Racing, and now back in Europe ( and racing regularly too...), it´s Mikko Kataja´s Toyota Starlet Kp62. a 260Hp/760Kg little Monster, powered by a 11.000Rpm 4AGE engine completely full of bespoke evolutions.
Now fitted with a paddle-operated 6-speed Sequential Gearbox and slowly being converted in "Euro-HillClimb" spec, we were able to catch this Flying Finn at Wolsfeld HillClibm where despite some mechanical issues, it still achieved a final 3rd Place ont he 1600cc Class. And trust us, it is only getting faster from this point on...

The magic of the Blacktop. It's just a regular Corolla silvertop engine (spec wise at 6k), but it's so over engineered that it can push 11k if the limiter is removed.
@Hashiriya086
@Hashiriya086 Год назад
@@gelatinous6915 the motor he’s running is not a 20v. It’s a 16v. And no, none of that is true, it takes LOTS AND LOTS of work to get it to push 11k and LOTS AND LOTS money. that initial d bs is super misleading. If you want to push even over 9k on any 4AGE, you’ll need a fully forged and fully balanced bottom end, you’ll need to run 288 or even longer duration cams, with 10+mms of lift, you’ll need to run 11:1 compression or higher, you’ll need a dry sump or else you’re oil pump will fail, you’ll need oversized valves, and your cylinder head will need to be machined to increase flow. And if something goes wrong, you’ll have to do it all over again. And again, just for emphasis, he didn’t to this on a silver or blacktop, this was a 16 valve
@gelatinous6915
@gelatinous6915 Год назад
@@Hashiriya086 I didn't realize it was a 16V. I know pushing 11k on an AGE takes a ton of work, but generally the 20V solves the biggest problem with higher revs (valve stress.) I didn't even think it was possible on a 16, how are the valves able to keep up?
@Hashiriya086
@Hashiriya086 Год назад
@@gelatinous6915 it’s actually much harder to ouch 11k on a 20v motor because of the smaller valves. Also there’s not as much of an aftermarket for them. 16v motors are actually where the 240hp at 11k rpm thing came from, takumis motor is actually based on a Formula Atlantic spec 4AGE, which were only 16Vs. And yes, the valves keep up perfectly fine, on 16Vs you’ll need to change to either solid shims or a shim under bucket when you use aggressive cams, as well as utilizing a stiffer valve spring, 20vs came with shim under buckets from factory so the only thing you’ll need is stiffer valve springs.

@gostygost4924
@gostygost4924 5 лет назад
@@spinnetti its just a sequential gearbox with straight cut gears but the ecu they are running likely is also controlling the transmission in that everytime he is upshifting, the engine cuts timing to limit the revs on the engine just enough to match the wheel speed with the engine speed and also try to preserve the actual gears themselves. It kind of hard to tell here if the ecu is programmed to powershift ( meaning banging the gears, w/o using the clutch) or if the ecu is controlling the engagement of the clutch between 1st to 6th. Both of these methods are becoming increasing popular regardless. It should also be noted that they are not using a stick or a lever, but rather a paddle system which leads me to be leave this would be a pneumatic based system as opposed to a hydraulic system.

My dad is a car enthusiast and has a variety of hot rods and custom cars...two of which him and my mom both bought in 1958 and 1959. His favorite car is his 1982 Starlet he bought in 1983 used. It's got over a million miles on easy. I used to get driven to school in that thing, back in 1983 and now I'm 52, and they still drive it. Dealers want to buy it, kids want to buy it and it's not for sale. He actually has plans to put a V6 Toyota (turbocharged) motor in it and he already has a 9inch Ford rearend for it. The man does all of his own builds minus machine work. He is 83 and still a monster at welding, upholstery...etc. I'll show him this video when I get back to thier house. He has already seen enough Puerto Rican 1/4 mile videos.

Thomas John Solidum Thanks for the compliment. I can’t even measure up to the man. He is still someone to scratch your head at. I’ll admit myself, my brother and sister should have been in the garage more often with him. Now, don’t get me wrong, my brother and I have built some some cars and even a few from the ground up but we required help in a few areas. My dad even made sure my sister cleaned her own carburetor, did things like change her own starter or do her own brakes (with help) while she still lived under his roof. My dad has all the tools you could want and then some. About the Starlet...it’s stock except for the rims and tires. He is still running the same 1.3L that had its first set of new rings installed about 15 years ago. I can honestly tell you that over 150 rods/classic cars have passed through his hands.
