For me, it's always been: Stage 1: ECU remap Stage 1+ :ECU remap + intake Stage 2: ECU + exhaust + intake Stage 2+: ECU + exhaust + intake + intercooler (pump, injectors?) Stage 3: All of the above + hybrid turbo Or something in that order. I think you get the most value if you put an exhaust and intake on it + ECU tune. Usually quite a bit more power. Dealing with intercoolers and all that jazz is already too much for me. Then you're basically removing a bottleneck after bottleneck.

I always said that a "cold air" intake does not necessarily make power but my 2014 A4 2.0T (stock tune) picked up a full second 0-60mph by removing the airbox and putting a K&N cone filter in its place. I was absolutely astonished! I've since went with the Intergrated Engineering intake, and stage 2 tune using the full factory exhaust.

Hi there my friend, that is really interesting. Were there any other mods done on the car or was it just the intake? I'll have to check out the integrated engineering intake, that is not one I am familiar with. Did this improve things further?

With my Audi 2.0 Sportback TDI, I had a remap done by a friend of mine, "NAB Tech Automotive, Warrington" taking the power up to 190bhp, on my last oil change I added some Activ8 oil additive, used it for the last 25 years, stops 90% of engine wear (watch the video here on RU-vid) giving me about another 10% bhp, plus I swapped the useless paper air filter for a "Pipercross" reusable (made from foam) giving me another 10 bhp. take the filter out once a year, wash it in warm soapy water, dry it, and then put it back into your vehicle. So my baby is running at about 210 BHP.

Great Vid! On my expirience the best choice in 20vt and 1,8 - 2,0 engines is a turbo swap from audi S3 8p witch is BorgWarner K04-064. Intake, dump valve, front mount intercooler, full exsaust replacement 63mm min to 70mm or even 75mm including sport catalytic converter, bosh 550 injectors and a mafless remap it can give more than 300hp reliable without waste low rpm feeling of torque. My opinion is to feel the torque to the lowest rpm possible and K04-064 setup is really very nice in this

Hi mate, just got an audi a3 1.4tfsi CoD, was thinking of a cone intake, either mst or k&n, however you said the standard boxes are well designed and not really restricted so i might go with a K&N Panel filter instead. Also at the very front of the engine bay there’s a long rectangular airflow part which follows on from the grille, i noticed the furthest left side has the factory gap for airflow however the pipe is actually on the right and there is “cut out” room to open up the same as the left side so might also do this to increase airflow into the pipe leading to the airbox. Really good videos btw, helped me as a new Audi driver😁

I have 2018 a3 8v 2.0tfsi quattro and i’m interested getting stage 1 remap. Do you think I should also remap the gearbox and any recommendation on the map tune?

you seem very knowledgable and i would to hear your thoughts on my ambitions for my A3 and give me any advice. It’s 2.0TDI CR (CFFB) 140hp standard, manual. I am speaking to a guy who offers ‘remote tuning’. This consists of me owning a flashing device, and VCDS, so i can log data, send it to him, along with the file, and he write me a custom tune. he says that from minimalistic tuning and modifications, he can write me a tune that will see ~ 300hp +/-. He believes that a GTD2060VZ, 4 bar MAP sensor, CUNA 184hp injectors, plunger upgrade the for CP4 pump, 2700 bar rail sensor, straight though exhaust, and his custom map will see 320hp at most. how does this sound to you? does it sound realistic or too ambitious? i will also upgrade to a sachs sre clutch

I have a policy of not providing specific advice on a car I've not seen or inspected. There are always lots of factors that come into play, but I'm happy to make some general observations on your build but do trust your tuner, he will be able to spec the parts that work best with his preferred mapping options. I would worry a little about the strength of the crank and rods. These are very solid engines generally but you are pushing quite a lot of power through it. Traction will also be an issue, with mine mapped to 190 I was certainly struggling to get the power down in the wet, I can only imagine what 300+hp will be like. The GTD2060VZ is running at the max around 310 to 320hp with 38psi of boost as long as the fuel supply and mapping is spot on. Also Invest in a Torsion diff or better differential, and get some decent rubber on it, it'll need all the help it can get.

I’m planning to get an 06 Audi a3 sport back that has a 2.0t fsi and I’ve been trying to search for any mods to put on it but just can’t find any that will make it look really nice

Couple things, the purple A3 you showed was not a mk1 A3, it was an A3 8P model which was the second model of A3 released between 2004-2012, the A3 8L is the mk1 model. Also a cold air Induction does add power because t allows more air to flow into the turbo/engine which produces more power, but more importantly it allows colder air to enter the engine which as we all know is more dense and produces more power. There are cheaper methods to gain power than modifying the head or fitting high lift cams. A full exhaust system, induction kit, uprated intercooler, upgraded high pressure fuel pump and an RS4 fuel pressure return valve, runner flap delete will cost less and give a healthy power increase with the right custom map, most of these mods apply to the 2.0L TFSI engine but some still apply to other generations. Otherwise good stuff😊

lol I was waiting for someone to point that out. My Mk1 A3 was a long time ago and I don't have any video footage of it. Purple is also quite a rare colour, so I dropped that broll in there more for the colour than the model. It is hard doing a general video to cover 3 generations and all the different engine options, so I am adding more specific engine guides and model guides in the near future for people. In my experiences I didn't see much of a gain on a stock engine with an induction kit, on a few models there was dip in low end power, but I'm sure there are exceptions out there that I would love to hear about. Your power upgrade tips are really good and well worth people looking into and I'm hoping to cover some of these in future videos if that is what people are interested in. Thanks again for your support and valuable input which adds to my knowledge and experience. "The more you know about something you more you realize there is out there still to learn."

I'll be digging into these newer engines very soon. The Gen3 I believe is the engine you have, so I'll drop a full guide to tuning and modding these. Generally though the remap and turbo swaps give the best gains for your money, I am researching power limits, weak spots etc... and will include this in the full video tuning guide. So far it looks like VAG sorted out most of the issues and have produced a great engine.
