Can we make this a series? I'd love this not only for the race track but also for street riding because lets be honest most of us don't even race. Doing this format for jackets, pants, gloves, boots, etc would be great content!
AGV and Arai for me. Personally I own an AGV Pista GP and the KYT NX-Race. KYT for the usual ride around town, and AGV during track days or just wanted to use something else for a change. I've been arguing myself to replace my KYT with the Arai RX-7V (Corsair X), but that would come in the future. AGV is very aerodynamically stable and not just some marketing BS, really excellent visibility, relatively quiet, and really feels plush and comfortable on your face. On the other hand the KYT feels cheaper, has thinner paddings, loud on the freeway speeds, but is super light (lighter by about 120g than my AGV), has great visibility, has speaker placements for comms (Pista/GP/GPR/GPRRdon't have this, but it's to be expected since it's track/race focused helmet), very cheap for a carbon lid (got mine for around 350USD), and has good ventilation (the Pista can get hot!). Additional note on Suomy and KYT > KYT bought Suomy and are like sister companies.
I've ridden with Arai's for 20 + years and appreciate their construction of using progressively denser layers of "foam" from head surface to shell. Not that I've actually tested it's effectiveness at protecting your head, but I like the idea. Years ago Arai was arguably the best at protection, but that may not be the case now that others have improved. This was a good intro into what's offered now, but it'd be nice to see measured impact and sound testing.
There are a few other sights that do a very job of testing helmets. I'm surprised a publication like this has taken this long to do even an anecdotal review.
12:53 Troy explaining that he hasn't tested the impact liner of the Bell helmet. C'mon, Troy, you've done a real-life test of an airbag, so you got this!
cool vid, it's nice to see so many talked about. Considering these are all race helmets would also be cool to see a similar video for helmets that are more for cruisers
Troy, your quickly becoming my favorite tester, motorcycle analyst around!! Your quick to the point, very clear in what you like or don’t like, what works for you and what maybe is a concern for us. Like others said, would be pretty rare for us to try all the brands out that we’re interested in so this test was perfect in helping us decide what to get!! Great video.
Great content. Love that you make content like this. Very hard for regular riders to obtain all helmets like this for comparison. Myself got small oval to narrow head and Shoe fits best then HJC RPHA11 fits very well with ample ventilation for riding even in the mediteranian during summer. All ventilation can be a problem for lower temps 10c in northern Europe. Go for a touring helmet then instead for colder climate.
I've had my Arai Corsair X for a year now and I love it. I don't do track days, I ride a 2019 BMW R1250RT, so sport touring and some nice fast twisty's. The newer Corsair's have a new shield removal system which is MUCH easier than earlier models which were a PIA to remove. I live in Texas and the airflow is great for 100F plus temps in the summer. I do wear earplugs with this and all helmets. Fastest I've been at with this helmet was 120mph and it was totally stable. I'd highly recommend it. Ride safe all.
I’m like you and ride sport touring and thinking Arai brand Signet X. I’m mixed between a medium or large. I tried the medium and found it very snug and large felt very nice, but am wondering if the large will be too large if the materials compress too much and flop around on my head. My question is that did you find the materials compressed a lot to gain a little space in the forehead area, cheek area I’m not concerned about.
Great comparison of all brands. I see a few comments mentioning Ruroc and Icon. Those brands aren’t really helmets for racing on the track. The helmets he reviewed are mostly race helmets. Also the X-Lite 803 RS model has a big spoiler. The X-Lite is DOT only if you buy it in the US. If you get one from somewhere like Champion helmets in the Netherlands it’s ECE rated.
I have an Arai Corsair X which I love as my everyday wear. When I want to change things up I have a Shark Spartan GT Carbon which is exactly as Troy said. Very snug getting on but once on feels amazing. Very little notice to wind noise at all. Can hear music and all comms on my Sena without any issue at all. Really like it, just wish the Spartan GT had some better visor options. Other than that, no complaints from me. I do also own a Ruroc Atlas 3.0 which the noise absolutely made it a turn-off for me. The wind noise is out of control! Thank you for this review as it has opened my eyes to a few other brands I may try. I like what I heard and seen for the Bell and LS2.
The road version of the pista is the corsa. The GP-R and RR are simply the subsequent "facelifts" of the original pista. Introducing stuff like a updated spoiler, an integrated hydration system and a thicker visor
Arai Corsair X is my choice. Just because I'm wearing my eyeglasses and feel better than other helmets. Plus, my oval head fits in a round profile. Oh, the step-wise wind visor locking system(?) helps for ventilation.
Same. As a new rider, i’ve heard HJC is famous for providing great helmets at a relatively low price. I have an i70. It’s no Rpha series helmet but its really good and comfortable, looks great too.
AGV PISTA GP RR. Best track and race helmet. Very light weight. Best performance and aero dynamic. Fantastic field of vision, you see everything and only the borders of the helmet at the very corners of your vision. Most importantly it has the best safety in class.
@@ur2slob724 The best helmet that only a few can afford. Almost twice the price of any other helmet on the list. It’s going to be noisy due to it being the most ventilated helmet you can buy.
Great review i just ordered BellStar mips deluxe and can’t wait to have it, I have shoei rf-1200 and I can’t ignore the wind buffeting I get from it, even my Schuberth C4 pro (modular helmet) cuts through winds way better, not to mention it is very quite and has a decent airflow which makes it compete with the best helmets shown here, only drawback for me is that it has a fixed comm system which I hoped to remove and combine it with Cardo packTalk Bold with JBL head set which will make it even better for road riding, I would like to try Bell Star and see how well it cuts the wind since I am a naked bike rider and that feature is a plus for me.
These are made for racing. So you can expert the helmet s behaviour to be different when you sit straight up on a naked and with no fairing. The airflow is completely different
You guys should have mentioned that the Scorpion EXO R1 is FIM homologated which is the highest safety rating available for helmets. I believe only the AGV Pista RR and the Arai Corsair have that same homologation. That’s why I chose the EXO R1 over a year ago. Best helmet I’ve ever owned. Light. Comfortable. Adjustable. Safe. Looks good too.
At the time I bought mine the X-14 was not. Thanks for the correction. I checked the others in the list and the EXO R1 is still the most affordable FIM homologated helmet by a long shot.
@@debrisbit scorpion only has 2 sponsored riders that I know of competing in WSBK or moto gp and both are wearing a size small henceforth only the size small was tested as all helmets used in those 2 championships require FIM homologation.
@@oneviperbite based on the FIM homologated helmet list 2022 the cheapest FIM helmet goes to NHK helmet GPR tech race, indonesian brand around 400 usd, cheaper than LS2 FIM helmet wich around 600usd
The KYT you guys saw in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 are actually SUOMY SR-GP which branded as KYT. Because KYT owned SUOMY, so they do it as intention to increase KYT branding name. But KYT do not sell SR-GP for public user, they sell it as SUOMY SR-GP which is totally different helmet from NZ-Race that shown in this video
@@mandipsalh960 You got internet bro? Just search KYT helmet and Suomy helmet. or Tara Kusuma Group or blog about the merging issue. I'm helmet enthusiast myself, and KYT are Indonesian brand where I also live. I know the detail
Absolutely. I never truly appreciated the subtle differences until I wore each helmet back-to-back-to-back (-to back-to-back). Then suddenly those little nuances were very apparent. Just like when we test bikes. If we ride one by itself, it's usually fine. But when we ride one against the others in its class then you really start to see the differences.
@@TroySiahaan Exactly why I enjoy your videos. I particularly like how you work hard to remain unbiased and just give what seems to be very honest opinions. Not easy to do.
I own a plethora of helmets. I opted for a AGV Corsa R instead of the Pista as my newest helmet (price point didn’t offset features), the reversible liner in the Corsa is great and not having to carry plugs makes riding in all weather great. I’ve got a Bell RSD Racestar carbon for the track (gotta try the 45mm cheek pads 🙏🏻) and my alternate daily helmet/first “good” helmet is an HJC RPHA11 pro Spider-Man. The HJC is one of the best helmets for the money and I’d be interested to see that one stacked next to the Scorpion.
Same here. I can't really criticise the fit of the Exo Air R1 on me. The cheek pads were quite tight to start with. But, they are fine now. I think that's a Scorpion thing.
There are a few more helmets like AIROH GP550, Nexx XR2, Just1 J-GPR (ridden by torres)..n a few more. These are proper race helmets used in gp, wsbk, IOMTT, BSB. But i suppose these arent available in the states yet. I recently switched from arai to Airoh gp550, after having owned 4 arais i was really impressed how the airoh felt and kept my noggin safe in my crash.
I have an Arai and an LS2. The LS2 is amazing value and quieter than the Arai by a good margin but the comfort of an Arai is just wonderful for me. Just the perfect shape for my ugly old head and great ventilation really helps in this climate. 🇬🇧
Bell Race Star Flex. got two of 'em. now have ear pocket for comms btw, comes with Pro-Tint shield, which technically isnt legal for the road. but who knows. the materials used to make it auto tinting (photochromic?) makes it break more like glass than plastics.
Having all of the top dogs here... I like the xlite more than any other helmet. Air channels are the best for street and road used, besides track, plus finish is the best also.
I’m just an average rider but have the LS-2 Horizon and it’s very comfortable. Also, has the chin strap with the channel click thing. I find it a little loud on the highway but like it anyway. Good price point as well.
I have owned a Forcite Mk1 for over 12mths and never had an issue with the drop down visor, I use my helmet heaps, and cosidering the tech it has its great value, a friend has / had one and when she dropped her bike the helmet stood uptothe test - head ok, body and bones broken. I can't wait for the Mk2 to be released, as I will buy one for myself and the wife.
Have you come off your bike and landed on your face before? I have unfortunately, Headon with drunk driver at estimated 80km/h, I had a full face Bell carbon, my only advice is full face, my helmet and bike were a write off, 9 weeks in hospital, but no head injury. Just an example, it's the fu3kwits in 2 tonne cars, all riders take pride in good riding, all the best Mate. :)
@@matthewinsydneyful, it is a full face. The drop down visor is an internal visor. The brilliant thing with the Forcite is that the electronic wizardry CAN be taken out of the helmet, sent back to Forcite if not functioning properly, and replaced. Keep an eye on this company; they have some brilliant ideas and the Mk 2 will be a game changer imo! Fantastic that you're riding after what you experienced. Cheers mate.
It's kind of strange seeing the Shoei being so heavy. I'm in europe and I have what appears to be the same model called the X-Spirit III and it weighs a mere 1365 grams.
I think it might be because Shoei gets Snell for the US. The construction is different to pass the Snell requirements (usually favouring thick harder shells).
My x spirit 3 doesn't feel heavy at all , most stable helmet i have ever used hands down . Comfortable to wear and you don't feel flagged after wearing it all day
Shark dark visor- great when the route is full sun. If the route goes from sun light to shade, it’s to dark for me anyway to pick out the line I want in the shaded portion of a turn. But great on the free way getting to the mountains
I own a Bell Race Star DLX, love the fit and aero. The transitions visor is so convenient, magnetic cheek pads and double D snap are awesome. My only complaint is that it is loud af on the highway, I have to wear earplugs or the wind noise leaves my ears ringing.
I love my 6d helmet. I really wouldn't want to crash in anything else as I value my brain more than anything I know someone who fell off on separate occasions wearing an Rf1200 and a 6D. He said he had a major helmet impact on the 6d (no concussion) yet it messed him up far less than the small spill he took with the Shoei (which gave him a concussion). That's a damn obvious choice for me (and him) on what to buy from now on
Tires and helmets are the most universal items in motorcycling, but are also the hardest to give comparative reviews on since there are so many variables. I've loved the price, fit, and features of my HJC helmets. However, I did buy a cheaper HJC years ago which I didn't like. The higher spec ones are okay, but I'm definitely going to buy a Shoei next. Also, I did own a Bell, but they changed models so quick it was hard to understand the continuity of concept.
A neck roll helps ensure the helmet does not come off in a crash I imagine. The 6D inside is what is now used in almost all off-road motocross type helmets. I think it was 6D that designed this system 1st for football helmets.
If you are putting helmets to the test then do it, as to me you are not testing these helmets. Your title is misleading. If it said "Let's talk about new helmets" then it would be an appropriate title. You're copping out on this.
Good info! I do track days and canyon carving, currently running X14 and love it. However, I guess I didn’t realize it’s so heavy! My wife switched from X14 to Corsair X and she loves it. Has me considering a new helmet. I love the Shark, but I’m not able to find many decent visors for it (like semi tinted or tint adjustable as Shoei has). Until we have more visor options for the Shark, I’ll wait. That dark smoke is too dark.
I will always wear earplugs no matter how quiet the helmet is. These are race helmets, wind noise will damage your hearing. I’ve tested the Corsair X multiple times on the race track, there is nothing else I’d rather have on my head
Just a question, Im not that familiar about lots of stuffs when it comes to helmet. Why is the MT Helmet not included? is it not recognize as one of the top? Thank you in advance if you're going to answer my question.
The strange thing is that I tried X-Lite X 803 Carbon and it was about 1300 grams, so maybe it is a new revision of 803, because for example 1005 is 200 grams heavier than 1004. Also 803 has RS version with huge spoiler
Excellent review/shoot out, how about putting the squeeze on HJC to provide a Helmet(s) and the other unrepresented manufacturer and do a review of these 2 manufacturers. I’m considering buying a HJC and I’m disappointed they didn’t make more of an effort to provide one.
About the scorpion exo r1 How it is the head shape? I am coming from an ls2 arrow that is long oval, will this helmet fit long oval heads? I already tried the hjc rpha 11 and the fit is not ideal for me there are gaps on the sides around the head.
Helmets aside, i was curious for awhile regarding your name, that was so indonesian. Siahaan is a last/family name from one of the largest tribe in indonesia (batak tribe) located in North Sumatra island. And in this video my curiosity has been answered lol. Sending likes from indonesia❤️
How your table misses the HJC, I have no idea. I own the HJC Carbon 90S black. As of today, the best I have ever owned in 30 years riding. Just superb and for the price, can't be beat.
I'd like to request a review of the brand new 2022 Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello! I'm sure a lot of people are very interested in this bike! Thanks, goodbye!
I love the Race R Pro and the GP version seems even nicer in regards to the padding. However, can you tell me if the magnet used for the excess strap is stilll a piece of shit? I have no idea why Shark insists on a feature that doesn't work most of the time. My magnet on the Race R Pro is junk and the excess flaps about very easily and it's unnerving.
@@ExileOrDeath I think from the most all arounder RPHA 11/11 Pro still good in many ways. The RPHA-1N (the mass production version from RPHA-01R and RPHA-1) is way to race focused, it's just recent they decided to make it mass production. On earlier, they only sell RPHA-01R and RPHA-1 just for professional racers
@@jeeewhyyypheee Personally I kinda only do trackdays and want to start racing next season, so in that regard the RPHA1 might be a good follow-up when the RPHA 11 is done
@@ExileOrDeath If that's the case then RPHA-1 could be the one to grab. Might giving HJC a contact if you interested to try their product. I'm sure they'll more than happy to welcome you.
@@ExileOrDeath From what I know is that RPHA-01R and RPHA-1 is almost two different helmet from their development progress. I'm sure they know better which one to go for
I crashed and hit my head a couple of times, was wearing my arai defiant. Every thing hurt except my head. This plus having a shoei and a bell too and the arai been way more confortable means ill only buy arai
I would like to see something like this but for "the real world" like you said, realistically not many will go to a track much if at all, how about noise on the highway, comfort at being in your head for a hour or more, is there cutouts for a bluetooth communicator; unfortunately many of the large motorcycle reviewers are like the car ones, everything is from a track and race prospective, when very few will actually be in that situation.
The Pista RR is a great looking helmet and very stable. Anyone considering buying one please keep in mind that it’s very (VERY) loud… you can’t ride without earplugs (in my opinion)
Different weather, different person, different perspectives and circumstances. Different motorbikes and different engines. At the end of the day, we all get what we love and there are always somethings that we compromise. Get Arai if you dont want to compromise with quality and protection. I myself have Corsair-X. Japanese always the best with quality. And thats my opinion. 😢😅😊😂
