Hahaha, My favorite is KOF 97. Because to me, Orochi is a very charming antagonist. And the Orochi series has the best storyline. By the way, my favorite characters are Orochi, Iori, Benimaru, and Chris.

K' has never defeated Kula during NESTS saga. The first time they met at kof 2000 Kula's fight was interrupted, as she was instructed to abandon her fight and turn her full attention towards stopping a Zero Cannon, in KOF 2001 NESTS team was to make sure K' team gets to the finals and meets Zero. Igniz instructed K9999 and Angel to kill Kula and Foxy after that mission is done. K9999 stabbed Foxy, which left Kula to fight alone vs K9999 and Angel. She did eventually win that fight, after which Diana appeared. Diana couldn't believe that NESTS would betray them like that. She took Kula and teleported to a NESTS base to find things out, upon getting there Diana saw a man they referred to as NESTS (a white-bearded man with a giant sword) lying down dead on the floor while Kula noticed K' struggling in his fight against Igniz. She rushed to his aid and with their combined power they managed to overpower the incredibly powerful Igniz. He didn't take that defeat likely though...
One thing I can't help but see about K' and Maxima is how much they remind me of Spike and Jet from Cowboy Bebop - K' has Spike-ish animations like his run, and Maxima's cyborg factor and level-headedness help bring Jet to mind, but I'm not aware of the devs directly addressing this, although there's clearly a history of Japanese pop culture inspirations in their designs, like Tung Fu Rue and Kame Senin.
