I needed to hear this. Till today some people close to me are not happy with my hair. because it's natural and I do not use make up. they will prefer me doing a different thing. I think it's not fair because that's how God made me. I believe he adores me that way but sometimes it hurts when people set such standards and make such comments. Theresa Jane Appiah you are beautiful just the way you are! I used to be so self conscious and people told me to change. But even if everyone says you're gorgeous, we can find our purpose in Jesus Christ alone.
I have had this exact conversation with friends and my students. More people should have this talk and even more should be careful of what they say to others. We were all beautifully made by God and we should all remember that. My daughter is learning one of your songs for her first children's choir performance and we're now big fans!
LOL! You are SO funny!! I know how you felt. My sister is dark and lovely and I'm caramel color. Growing up, people use to say the my sister was SO pretty and I just....looked like my dad lol. I was really awkward looking. I had bugs bunny teeth, funny colored reddish brown hair and a butter ball. But thankfully, throughout the years, God had truly poured out his love and my identity in me. And now, 30 yrs later. I feel like I'm my best version of me ever! Plus, I just don't care anymore :P #overit

Thanks Jamie for the message. I recently cut off 16 inches of my hair because it was to heavy on my neck. I love having short hair. I have had people though that were sad about me cutting it off. There were people who were mad that I cut it off. So I think it is very true that we need to not take our identity in our features but find our identity in Christ. Thanks for sharing!! Wow. Thanks Jamie. This has helped me so much. I never think of my self as ugly or anything but there are times when I notice all the other girls who wear make up, have short hair, wear certain clothes. I sometimes get discouraged at that and think I'll never meet their expectations. But I have to wake my self up and know that it doesn't matter what they think, it only matters what God thinks. So this has been a helpful wake up call. Thanks so much! God loves you and I hope you can keep making great music and making videos to reach out to others and give them hope.

I have never thought that I had low self-esteem, but watching this, I realize how much this kind of stuff impacts us even when we don't know it, and how much I care about what others think about me. I just don't know how I'm supposed to share the Good News seeing I'm emotionally driven. I wish I can someday get to a point where people can tell I'm a Christian just by looking at me, and so people who are interested in Him just ask me boldly. And I really wish I had something to give them, something that makes them better, just like you do, just like Jesus does, really. x
Diana Ceballos Arruda think of it this way. Of all the people who you know how many would you like to go to Heaven? If its everyone then I suggest asking Jesus for wisdom. He will direct you and speak through you. I know witnessing can be scary but here's one thing I've noticed: the closer and more intimate you are with Jesus, the easier it is to tell others about Him. It's like talking about my Best Friend. Jamie doesn't have something that you can't have. What she has is Jesus. What she gives is an overflowing of her relationship with Him.
This is a topic I'm so passionate about! My main issue is how people feel pressured by media/society/whatever to 'embellish' themselves. And even if you say 'I'm just adding to the beauty' but really just feel pressured- it's not right. I think embellishment is fine if you're happy and you're not doing it for other people but I know too many people who aren't happy in their skin and wear makeup thinking they'll be accepted for it :( I personally choose not to wear makeup, kind of as a way of saying that if I can be happy with my spots (zits for Americans!) then they can too :) this doesn't mean I'm against makeup! Just that people should be able to consider leaving the house with no makeup without feeling horrified! I hope I got my point across alright and noone has misunderstood my intention. If any of you are struggling with loving yourself, I'd recommend listening to the songs 'I am amazing' and 'Happy in my skin' by Philippa Hanna- her music and belief about this topic has really helped me to be comfortable with who I am as made by God :)

I agree. I will say though that if you can Never be seen in public without said embellishment, then that thing Is an issue. It's tied to your self image and that is different from mere decoration or adding something new for day or a season. You won't be seen without it, you're relying on it.

Thanks, Jamie :) I needed to be remimded of this. About a year ago I got four inches of my hair cut off because it was damaged. My hair used to be down to my waist, it's still long just not as long as that. I didn't think I'd care that my hair was shorter until I started noting all the girls who the had super long hair that I no longer have. It used to bug me, which is ridiculous cause people say my hair is still long, but now I dont care cause well...it is just hair lol. I just try to remind myself if I had super short hair would that make me any lesser of a person? And the answer is no, so at the end of the day I'll enjoy the hair I have, but my value or uniqueness as a person isn't dependant upon my hair. Not so long go i hated (and i mean HATED) myself. I was depressed, constantly doubting myself, self-harming, not eating properly, and just feeling like crud. Recently i have become friends with someone that has helped me see myself the way God sees me and what she sees in me. I am not 100% there and still doubt myself, still depressed some days, BUT i have not self-harmed in almost a year and i don't hate myself! If i can change the way i feel about myself, then so can anyone whom is struggling! Everyone is beautifully and wonderfully created in HIS image and praise God for that! It don't matter how others see is, it matters, most importantly, how God sees us and how we see ourselves!
Hi Jamie Grace My life has always been about personality, being smart,creative, or charismatic. I don't have any of those. I do my best and hope and pray it work outs for the best. I'm content with myself, with the acception of the fact that I don't have many friends. I am depressed because I don't have the personality that draws people to hang out with me. This definitely sounds sad and it is. But I sincerely believe that what you said is right. Christ loves me enough and I am satisfied with that but when you go through life without friends it's hard to see that true thing. And I pray that I can continue to keep that truth. Because when all else goes away the true things remain so thank you for reminding me that I am beautiful without make up and with my personality. I will always try no matter what others say and keep fighting one day at a time. Love ya lots and hope to see you in Houston sometime.
The thing that sticks the most out to me is that you don't have the personality that draws people. Gurl, I understand you so much. so much. All my life, I've always been a little jealous of outgoing people who easily made friends. I was never like that. I was a shy girl with a few friends and most of my classmates never bothered to get to know me. I'm not loud or bold like other people. I tend to be reserved and now that I'm in college, I have trouble with myself because I feel like the only way I'll succeed is if I'm popular and outgoing. But you know what, if people don't want to hang out with you, then you don't need them. I'm not sure if you have found them, but there are people out there who will be friends with you because of who you are. maybe you just haven't found them, but I promise you that those people are golden. I say join a group of some sort that clicks with what you're interested in and you'll be able to hang out with people that are similar to you. I just ask God that even though I'm shy, he will help me succeed and use my personality in ways I've never imagined possible. He has something out there for all of us. :)
Good message especially today, almost 5 years after you made this video. Our value is in Christ Jesus. Be content with God’s majesty that is you, the child He loves and made. I also agree that there’s nothing wrong with enhancing. Dr J Vernon Magee, from Through the Bible, used to say, “every old barn looks better with a new coat of paint”. So enhance people, but don’t forget who we serve and why. Don’t enhance to the point of distraction (except for that special person GOD put into your life). Good words Jamie Grace.
God loves us however we are we don't gotta be beautiful to be with God we should take care of our self and know if someone doesn't think your beautiful God loves me and you and know that God loves me and you don't worry what people say how you look have fun and God loves you and me .
not that it matters really but i have really long hair im just 10 almost 11 in exactly 1 month and 3 days and my hair is about 4 feet and a half it was to my knee now it's to my ribs what ever somewhere there and every one in school is like oh my gosh where's your hair and i said i got it cut😊😨 it feels more comfortable even though my hair us still THICK and nice video jamie👌😊
Jamie!!!! I️ love your hair SO much!!!! In all your videos I’m jealous of it....I️ have red hair and don’t enjoy it. That’s the only thing people know me by. I️ want people to know me for my love for Jesus, not my hair. And honestly, I️ really don’t like my color of hair. People only see it when it’s styled or straightened or curled. When I’m chilling at home it looks like a gross orange...idk but just want you to know I️ love your hair so much!!!!!
Thank you for your sweet compliment but YO - love YOUR hair! I can tell you that red heads are so pretty! Whether it's fiery red or a chillin-at-home-orange. Represent!! And know that you also don't see my hair before I've actually done it for the day.. haha. I know it can sometimes feel like people only know you for your hair. But it's a part of you, that God gave you on purpose, and whether you ever cut it or dye it or style it differently as you get older, I hope you can become so proud of it!!
