That's stupid, my comment keeps getting deleted by RU-vid but whatever, the point is that bridge pickup on The Edge's Gibson Korina Explorer is top-notch; a lot of warmth, a lot of range in both bass and treble. Fantastic staple of U2's early sound :)

Red Rocks amphitheater is perfectly tuned for the midrange & treble 'wash' of bands like U2. Also anything with strings. Bass doesn't bounce as well, and really screaming/wailing lead guitars or soprano voices are deafening in the reverb. But a nice 'chka chka chka chka' rhythm guitar, tenor voice, sharp drumming, & lush keyboards/strings fit the venue sooo well. It's like the world's biggest DELAY pedal.😀 Local band DeVotchKa, with the CSO: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wh5XtRBCBFo.html

And I still play and discreetly dance behind closed windows to their early stuff. Musically though, they were pretty simple. They then went through that commercial sell out period (Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum...when I traveled 100 miles to see them in Pittsburgh, but los Lobos was more fun as an opening act), then they got to the point, they could dictate terms. Then they could creative again. What I was astounded by was, how many Irish people didnt like them. This is a masterpiece of a performance. What a close call@2:02 when the guy in the audience tries to grab Bono's microphone. If he we would've got it, they may have scrapped this song from the video and we may have never seen this. I don't know if that's just luck or divine intervention, but very thankful the guy didn't get the mic.

The Edge plays the "Big Ben" chime at 3:50 in his solo while Bono dances with the girl...how brilliant, how perfect.

@@ALSILVERU2 Hi Silver, Big Ben is a famous clock in London which rings out every hour. Before tolling the Time it runs a melody to let everyone know it is about to countdown the time. The Edge plays that melody in the Solo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wqslA_CKub8.html

The entire Blood Red Sky album should have been culled from this show. They absolutely nailed their set that day in spite of the cold and the rain. No one went home unhappy.

I find it difficult to compute the passage of time in my head. This feels like if not yesterday exactly, a week ago, a month ago.... recent in terms of how quickly it all passed. So, I try to shift the time references to give myself more of a feel. So if 1983 was today (U2 Sphere), that would mean Red Rocks would have been in 1943! Now I get it! A lot of popular culture has come and gone in that 40 years.
