@@theflyingfool yes indeed My grandfather who was a metallurgist and mechanical engineer taught me how to use both a circular and linear slide rule while I was in primary school, and he used to test me occasionally... He himself I feel was probably a polymath he was multilingual 6 different languages and could do complex maths in his head to 6 decimal places...He taught I was the dumbest one in the family...even though I had a degree in mining engineering....
Once WW2 ended is when the Hitler's head rocket scientist created NASA and the whole pop culture phenomenon of outer space started and it's all because that's when UFO technology started being reverse engineered and applied to the designs of things like fighter jets
I sat in a cockpit of a Finnish air force Draken in the 90’s and that thing was tiny! The thrust-lever was completely to the left of the left side of the canopy, so that you had to snake your arm under some metal. I wouldn’t want to try leave that spot in a hurry.
@@daz804 Neither of those aircraft have turbo props. The B-17 has 4 radial engines and the Lanc has 4 V-12s. A turbo prop is a turbine (essentially a jet engine) that's used to power a propeller.
I've been fortunate enough to hear and observe so many of these amazing aircraft at close range... I think in all honesty, the gartantuan scream of the Vulcan bomber or the whine of the P-51 Mustang are my favourites 😊
I've seen most of these aircraft displaying or otherwise passing by. The most memorable for me were the Lancaster and the BBMF overlying my parents home one Sunday afternoon. A Canberra displaying on the coast. It kept overflying the headland we were sitting on and the noises it made were amazing. And finally the Red Arrows on the same headland. They were using it for cover, along with the low cloud base, to 'sneak up' on the spectators. Was amazing.
The Lancaster flies over my house regularly (not the one in the video, the other one that still flies here in Canada). I never get tired of seeing or hearing her.
Great video as usual. That A380 take-off and tight turn is absolutely bonkers! Was it a demo flight? I really thought it was going to do a full roll... 😱 Keep up the sterling work.
The pilot certainly showed everyone how much power them engines have in reserve, much lighter and smaller planes couldn't get away with manoeuvres like that one, truly amazing to watch 💯🔥👌
Are you kidding..? Rare footage from a Draken..? the Saab was about 30 Years part of the Austrian Air Force and flew many many Displays live on TV at the Air Show Called "Air Power" at the Zeltweg Airbase. It's a Big International Airshow and it is live in TV in half of Europe and also in UK.
These aviation channels ran out of original content years ago and they just push the limits of what repeated over and over garbage people are willing to watch.
The only other flying Lancaster is based in Hamilton Ontario and flies over my house pretty regularly. They actually took her to England a number of years ago so the two could fly together - there's some good videos of it here on RU-vid.
0:25 I love that the engines are so powerful, it shakes a tripod mounted camera. What RAF base is this? I recently got back into photography and would love to visit.
Very impressive from the Blue Angels, it looked like they were touching each other going down the runway, then straight into formation after take-off ✈️
Quite a few years ago at Edwards AFB there was a flyby of a B-52, FB-111, and a B-1. Then the B-1 came by low and slow, setting off car alarms. Then after everyone reset their alarms, I came back for another pass, setting off alarms again. Dad once said the loudest noise he ever heard were two B-52s taking off along with a KC-135 tanker plane with water injection.
Some great footage there - some from Fairford if I’m not mistaken? Seeing those Lancasters and B-17 always makes me wonder and lament the fact that, even though they were so vital and iconic a relatively short time ago, they and so many others have been left to rot away and disappear until only one or two airworthy examples remain. If we could turn back time, would we not want to preserve them by the dozen?
Cheers. The B-1s at the start are Fairford yep. I'm sure they would have preserved more yes, plus side is we should have a third airworthy Lancaster soon in Just Jane!
My dad was fuels and attached to fighter wings while in the Air Force. Meeting the fighter pilots as a young kid was neat. They had pet rattle snakes in their briefing room. They said they were found in the jet cockpits
as a pilot, the last place in the world I would be standing is on the runway threshold.. odds of getting hit or hurt? maybe 1 in 100M but there is that chance...
Yes a calculated risk and one that's well worth it, for me personally there's no better buzz than having a jet rush low over me. I don't stand directly under them 100% of the time either..
Can I just ask if the Draken clip was shot at the SAAB airfield in Sweden? Thanks. Also, I'm as much of a sucker as anyone for the roar of jet, but if you have the opportunity to listen to the sweet song of a Lancaster, accept no substitutes.
Propellers in videos may appear to move slowly due to the relationship between the propeller's speed and the camera's frame rate. For example, if the propellers are moving at 9,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and the camera records at 150 frames per second, the propellers will appear stationary.
C-17 lgs weren't exactly greasers; Hoorah to the Blue Angels; SAAB Draken is so neat; really good Red Arrows, Typhoon abd F-35c shot; Canberra nice landing;.
Has anyone explained to C-17 pilots that, when doing a touch and go, you are supposed to have the "weight on wheels" light go on before throttling up and climbing out? Lancaster - You're supposed to drop the Upkeep cookie from 60 feet!! Canberra - PR9? I mean I can see the "fighter" canopy.
We don’t need a C-17 “weight on wheels landing light.” Our spoilers dearm on TnG’s when the flaps are retracted to 1/2, throttles are past 65 degrees, and TOGA engages. Either one takes care of the spoilers to disarm for the takeoff
I attended a Blue Angels homecoming in Pensacola some years ago... they supplemented the regular show with an F-14 nearing retirement. There were dozens of car alarms going off, multiple times. Base personnel probably had to facilitate a number of jump starts that afternoon to get people out of there! 😅
