Also, what is the fuel pump and what are the symptoms?
The fuel pump is a crucial component of a car's fuel system. It is responsible for delivering fuel from the gas tank to the engine. Without a functioning fuel pump, the engine will not receive the necessary fuel to run properly.
Symptoms of a faulty fuel pump can vary, but some common signs include:
1. Engine sputtering or stalling: If the fuel pump is not supplying enough fuel to the engine, it may sputter or stall while driving or idling.
2. Difficulty starting: A weak or failing fuel pump may make it difficult to start the engine, causing extended cranking or even a complete failure to start.
3. Loss of power: If the fuel pump is not providing a consistent flow of fuel, the engine may experience a loss of power, especially during acceleration or when climbing hills.
4. Surging or hesitation: Inconsistent fuel delivery can cause the engine to surge or hesitate, as it is not receiving a steady supply of fuel.
5. Increased fuel consumption: A faulty fuel pump may result in increased fuel consumption, as the engine compensates for the lack of proper fuel delivery.
6. Whining noise: A failing fuel pump may produce a high-pitched whining noise, particularly when the vehicle is running or during acceleration.

what about the high pressure fuel pump? my car has the fuel pump and sender assembly in the tank and also a high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay right before the fuel rail. I'm having these problems (other than the not starting) but I'm not sure which one it is.

It is possible that the high pressure fuel pump is causing the engine hesitation and stalling issues. A malfunctioning high pressure fuel pump can result in insufficient fuel pressure to the fuel rail, causing the engine to hesitate or stall. It is recommended to have a professional mechanic diagnose the issue to determine if the high pressure fuel pump or another component is causing the problem.

IMHO, Do you have a throttle body ....look and see if black crap is in it.Clean it out with throttle body cleaner. That black crap can cause a no start. Its easy to do. Cost you around $10-15 for the cleaner. Video instructions on youtube. Ive done it about 3 times over the years it worked every time.

welcome! your BMW X5 after getting gas. It's difficult to determine the exact cause without a proper diagnosis, but here are a few potential reasons for your car not starting: 1. Fuel pump failure: A faulty fuel pump can prevent fuel from reaching the engine, causing the car to crank but not start. This could be a possibility, especially if you recently refueled. 2. Fuel system issues: Check for any clogged fuel filters or fuel lines that may be obstructing the flow of fuel. A blockage in the fuel system can prevent the engine from starting. 3. Ignition system problems: Faulty ignition components, such as spark plugs or ignition coils, can cause a loss of spark and prevent the engine from starting. Inspect these components for any signs of wear or damage. 4. Battery issues: A weak or dead battery can prevent the engine from starting. Check the battery connections and make sure they are clean and secure. You may also want to have the battery tested to ensure it is functioning properly.
