Series that I binged from start to finish! My favorite of my Urban Fantasies and Paranormal Romances! Follow me on the interwebs: Twitter: @TheNovelLush Instagram: @OffbeatLauren Goodreads: goodreads.com/TheNovelLush
Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series is my absolute favorite. I’m so glad it’s one of your favorite’s as well. I have turned two of my coworkers on to the series as well. I can’t wait to read the Kate Daniel’s series, thanks.
You are the only person I’ve found on here with the same preferences as I do😭 love all of your recs, you put most of my all time favs in your list and I can’t wait to read the rest♥️
Yes to the Night Huntress series and the spin off about Vlad!!! I never hear anyone talk about it here on Booktube! I lived for those series! Cat and Bones are the best!! Loved this video! Can’t wait to give some of your recommendations a try!
I just found your channel and I love that you talk about urban fantasy. I love the Mercy series and the Alpha and Omega series so much! I still can't believe I haven't read the Kate Daniels series. That's a high priority for 2019!
thanks for this video. I've only read about 3-4 of them, and now have so many good sounding series recommendations to follow up on! i too have binged on some once 9-10 exist, and then look up and realize, where did my week go??? thanks again!
Oh my god!! This is my first time watching you..and I have read and loved almost all these series'!! So happy to find a booktuber I share so many stories with.. Also you should read archangel series by Nalini Singh..
You best believe I sat down and watched the full 30 minute video! So glad I found your channel but my bank account isn't because I just orderd a load of books 😂
Gah! I've read all of these and, although these series are my all time favourites, there's only so many times I can re-read them... I need more! GIVE ME MORE!
Thanks for all the recs! I can't wait to start these especially the series by Ilona Andrew because I've heard you talking about those and the Others series since that one has been on my TBR for a little bit.
Ilona Andrews is Definitely must read. Love them. Have you read Annette Marie or Suzanne Wright yet? I feel like their series would definitely be in your wheelhouse.
thanks for your rec. Many of the series I love too. What I personally don’t need is explicit content . So I was really happy with Mercy though the book cover suggested differently. I’d like to hear your opinion to the Iron Druid Chronicles...
I was going to suggest the Night Huntress series lol! If you’ve never listened to them on audiobook I totally recommend it! Tavia Gilbert does an AMAZING job narrating them!
Absolutely loved Anne Bishop's The others series and Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series. As a Romanian, I was excited to see a spinoff using Vlad, but I have to admit I actually liked Kira and Mencheres' story much more (Eternal Kiss of Darkness). Also read Mercy Thompson but stopped reading them somewhere around the 7th book, and went to other series. Something else I really enjoyed was Lara Adrian's series Midnight Breed, with vampires and girls with special abilities - some said she stole ideas from JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and they have similar ideas but I found it quite different and good. And if you never heard of it, I'd also suggest Molly Harper's "Jane Jameson" and Half Moon Hollow series which are series with vampires and werewolves in a world where vampires decided to "come out" and live with humans.. quite nice writing style, a bit funny, not taking it too serious, enjoyed them a lot.
Thanks for your insight on these different series. Based on your choices you may enjoy the Rachel Morgan series written by Kim Harrison. Rachel Morgan is a earth witch who works has bounty hunter. The books has witches, weres, vampires and demons. This is a completed series of 13 books but she does use this character in her other series has a cameo. You may also want to try Kelley Armstrong Otherworld series. I would say each book concentrates on a set of characters but they are all connected and needed to complete the overall story. This series also completed. She has another series called the Darkest Powers that is also connected to the Otherworld series.
I have enjoyed Mercy Thompson series as well as Alpha & Omega series... i really must check out kate daniels series (its been in my TBR forever! Lol) thanks!!
I've never heard of the Magic Shifts series. That sounds very cool. I'll have to check it out! PS- it makes me fucking happy as shit that you drop the F- bomb so casually
I'm glad you talked about what was going on with the cover weirdness with the Mercy Thompson books. I have seen this book recommended several times and not purchased it specifically because of the cover. I looked at it and was like "oh, another paranormal erotica where the 'plain and boring' girl that is actually 'super special and sexy' (because a handsome monster told her so) ends up fighting monsters in her underwear. Pass." 🤦🏼♀️ But I just bought the book based on your review and now I'm excited to get started!
It's super frustrating because I got a hardcover of Moon Called without a sleeve and was able to get my own mental image. Then I got the next and was thinking... Is that Mercy??? I didn't think she looked like that at all. White Trash Zombie is another one where I feel like the cover art is distracting more than helpful.
Love the recs already read most of them cover to cover esp Ilona. Lost count of how many times I’ve reread her books. You should try Steve Mchugh Hellequin Chronicles
You are Not alone in your love for the Others. It is one of my all time favorite series. I have read the first 5 in the series MANY times, because well, Meg and Simon-no other explanation should be needed. 😂
I have read all of these authors and loved them so I believe we have similar tastes (the only series I'm not up to date on is the Dark Hunters because I got a tad overwhelmed with how many characters there are with similar names but I'm still going to go back and finish them) I have some recs for you some are paranormal and some urban. Nalini Singh, MelJean Brooks, Thea Harrison, Karen Chance, Kelley Armstrong, Jean Johnson, Robin Owens, and Dara Joy. First of all anything Nalini Singh has written anything. Fantastic World Building. She has multiple series going on that are all very damn good. Lots of Authors do spin off series but she has completely different worlds. Next MelJean Brooks her Steampunk Iron Seas series is awesome and her Guardians series epic. Thea Harrison has the Elder Races series that really good. Karen Chances Cassandra Palmer series is great. Kelley Armstrong's has a ton of books to read with like 7 different series (they made one of her series into a tv show but they messed it up... the heroine went from an kick ass reporter to a whiny fashion photographer grrr). Jean Johnson multiple series separate worlds and her talent has grown as an author from her first book too. Robin Owens also writes as Robin D. Owens great world building multiple series going on. My usernames inspiration Dara Joy (lots of people think I'm into drugs but nope JoyCrazy is because of her) in her first book Knight of a Trillion Stars the Hero asks her what planet they are on and she straight faced says Disneyworld and she never tells him different it was hilarious. He found out from his brother which made it even funnier. All of these are binge worthy and on a last more fantasy note Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards … Foul Mouthed Con artist heroes.
I am saving this for SURE!!! I listened while cleaning (yes, to the whole thing! Hahah! All bajillion minutes!! 🤣🤗) and I neeeeed some awesome paranormal in my liiife!!!! You’re awesome for this 😄
I read several of the series you spoke about and i loved them. Yet if it would be only based on your recommendations i would never try. You focus so heavily on the points i find secondary, it seems like we read different books all together. I blame it on me being old guy. Love to see you speak so passionately about the topic. As long as you are having fun, i am sure you are reaching your audience.
I definitely need to read all these series, especially the Kate Daniels series and Written in Red! I absolutely love Sherrilyn Kenyon's middle grade Chronicles of Nick series, but I'm not sure if I'll enjoy her adult series as much. You are my new go-to source for paranormal romance/urban fantasy series!
Aw, thank you! I confess, I haven't read the Chronicles of Nick series. Mostly because of spoilers. I have them, I just can't bring myself to read them yet
I like Kate Daniels and Cat and Bones the most. Just sad that I don`t like the Night Huntress audiobooks. But the Kate Daniels are GREAT! Do you know the Fever, The Demon Trappers and/or Guild Hunter series too??
Thanks for the review of Cry Wolf. It keeps coming up as a reading suggestion and I wasn't sure if I wanted to prioritize it as my next read or not. Have you read the Guild Codex : Spellbound series yet by Annette Marie? It's free on Kindle Unlimited and I've really enjoyed it. I'm interested to hear your take. #greatreads #readinglist
Annette Marie is a must read. Love her stuff. Cry Wolf by Patricia Brigg's is really great. I like her alpha and omega series better than her Mercedes series even though I like it as well. Another really great author is Suzanne Wright. She has a really good vampire series as well as a demon one. And 3 werewolf series though I would put the wolf series more in the paranormal genre than UF, but they're all good.
Other interesting series... Chicagoland vampires by chloe neill, anita blake by laura k. Hamilton, the many series of Christine Feehan, Jane yellowrock by faith hunter. Also check out kerrilyn sparks, p. c. cast, Sarah j maas, Nalini Singh, Mary Janice Davidson, kevin heard, keri Arthur.
Do u have any recs for UF series with a m/m romance at its center? I picked up Mercy Thompson cuz I heard about Warren (I know he's just a secondary character), and found myself loving Mercy's story (Blood Bound made it into my top 5 faves of last year) but I'm still craving a m/m romance in an Urban Fantasy novel in the lines of Mercy Thompson or the Hollows.
Both Kresley Cole has an M/M called Shadow's Seduction about a Vampire Prince and Demon Warrior. It's on my TBR for this month but I haven't picked it up yet. It's less UF and more PNR. The last time I looked for really good M/M I came across the PsyCop series by Jordan Castillo Price. They're crime/UF and the main character is a cop with psychic powers. It had a 4 star avg on goodreads, but I haven't gotten to it yet.
Anyone read Night's Watch series by one russian author called Sergei? It's great read, there are 6 books in the series that all have around 380~400 pages. The books go in this order Night's Watch--> Day's Watch--> Twilight Watch--> Last Watch--> New Watch--> Sixth Watch.
Some of them I LIKE how crap they are, and some of them I'm like omg, wtf, who approved this?!? The Kate Daniels covers aren't horrible, they just give the wrong feel I think. But yeah, I totally noticed it's mostly the romantic genres with that problem. There are so many random and weird covers on my paperback shelves smh
