To address child abuse you would have to address the maladaptive bad behavior of parents and adults which is something that this country is in denial of..doesn't want to address mental illness doesn't want to address how the freedom for people to "raise their offspring" leaves too much room for error and the fractured way that everyone is raised to arrive at adulthood with dysfunctional behavior..but as I said till people are ready to look in the mirror, then being shocked that kids are abuse by adults daily everywhere all the time and is so normalized you see articles about how parents need to not care about their kids safety and how if kids don't like their parents it's because the kids are the problem..again I repeat addressing child abuse by implication affirms the adults are the abusers and no one wants to address it..

@@Sunset553: Depending upon how old you are and what the laws were where you lived at the time, that sort of thing wasn't abnormal back in the day. CPS (or equivalent) would normally only get involved if you were visibly badly malnourished or starving, or beaten half to death or wandering around in the snow in nothing but a pair of dirty undies. I don't think parents (even the better ones) were much more likely to take risks with their children than they are allowed to now. They were also, frankly, often a lot more brutal than is acceptable now.
