The latest Steam Next Fest brought us quite a lot of highly-anticipated indie demos. Including one that's been 11 years in the making. Naturally, I had to try them out.

yo, thanks for playing. Yeah Coven is made by me, a solo dev, it's my first big(ger) project. A bit of a big thing doing everything (minus the music) myself outside of my full time job so polishing it all is taking some time. But I'm getting there, thanks again for playing :)

Hey, thanks for stopping by to comment! I tried to list a bit of positive and negative feedback for every game, but it was tough to tell how far along in dev each was. I know the struggle of trying to do basically everything on a game solo. More polish just seems to work out over time (and feedback). Looking forward to seeing where you take it!

@@EphiTV yeah it's fair critique, just letting you know the reasons, as of course like you said it's hard to know the dev situation. Even now I feel the current build I have is much more polished but aye... Unless something changes with my job situation I feel I can't reach the high level of polish I want otherwise the game will never ship haha. If only there was more time in the day or I didn't need to sleep to function 😅

System shock is actually pretty faithful to the first game, problem is most people are familiar with the 2nd game, which is the famous one and a lot more dark and atmospheric horror.

So I have participated in multiple playtests for Shadows of Doubt over the past (almost) two years, and it is genuinely hard to notice improvements that have been made to the game in that time. I love the idea, I love the voxel work, but the actual gameplay can be really nebulous and frustrating, bugs or not. I would suggest you play Neverlooted Dungeon, if you haven't already. The demo has been out for a while, but it's a lovely mix of Thief and Heroes of Might and Magic. Tons of player agency, exploration, and physics shenanigans.

My favorite demo from Next Fest was a puzzle game called Vividlope, highly recommend it

The reason Voidtrain looks like that because they already released a year ago, they just money hatted and told steam players to piss off as they went to Epig games

Interesting, I didn't hear anyone talking about this game until it showed up on Steam. I guess that's just the way it goes.
