Great video! This is what we call a 'Captive Thumbturn' deadbolt. By inserting the key into the top cylinder and turning it, it releases the thumbturn and turns the lock into a double cylinder deadbolt. Doing so will not prevent the outside cylinder from operating, it just turns the lock into a double cylinder deadbolt. This is ideal for situations where a double cylinder deadbolt is needed for when the property is not occupied, but a thumbturn is needed when the property is occupied for fire safety. The reason why the tailpieces of this lock are fixed is that Mul-t-lock and most other high-security deadbolts produced under the ASSA ABLOY group rely on the shape of the deadbolt latch's actuator shape to allow for key insertion and removal when the lock is either locked or unlocked. The tailpieces for both sides are independent of each other; they do not interact like how many other conventional deadbolts do. If you have any more questions about assembly, feel free to ask :) PS: if you plan on installing this lock, it's most likely that Mul-T-Lock includes some anti-drill balls in the screw pack. Be sure to drop them into the screw holes before you tighten the lock together.
You may have figured it out by now but that's actually not for locking out the front, rather it is called the captive key deadbolt. In some jurisdictions, double cylinder deadbolts are against fire code so something like this would be used since it is more of a grey area in terms of code. The thumbturn is technically captive so in case of an emergency people can get out without a key but lets say you go on vacation or something, you can turn that top key, take the thumbturn out and then take the key out so you essentially have a double cylinder deadbolt that isn't against fire code since nobody is in the house anyway. These are very popular with our customers because we here in Toronto have that fire code restriction so we sell these for homes a lot.
Can I get an email I need a lock picked older skeleton one maybe railroad or postal... I would pay for the shipping and a key made for it, because I'd like to use it ! Thank you .
Man you find the coolest stuff! hahaha Very neat! I knew those existed but don't think I've seen one on video before.. Man they make some nice stuff.. That weird key is for the inner side , yup, like you said its basically a thumb turn.. Besides that, I dont know much about it.. A mock-up for it would be great!
Wow what an awesome lock. That lock system must have a super specific use, that an authorised key doesn’t work the lock. Maybe military uses ? a panic room or something?? Awesome video sir. Compliments go to the lab manager as always for a great find 👍🐈 😊
Thats a beautiful brand new lock. It would have cost a fortune and looks to be thick, heavy and strong. I didn't know they made dual custody locks. Lucky you didn't break it. Let us know it's proper functionality when you find the instructions.🤪🍺👍😝🇦🇺🐈
I can hear my wife (if she were watching this) saying "Read the instructions". Love those Mul-T-locks. First figure them out, them figure out how to pick them. Be interesting to know if they all pick the same whilst they all use the same key.
