Got a mul-t-lock MT5+ for my front door and installed it, based on the fact it took you a couple minutes to pick seemed tougher then most you go through.
WOW! That's some next level picking right there! I don't believe I've seen another pick & gut video with a genuine Mul-T-Lock MT5 + before. Amazing picking, my friend! Very well done indeed!
Not sure what the plural of Primus is, but Primi sounds good to me :) Thanks, LPL, but I think this lock took every obstacle those threw up and added a few on top. It probably sounds strange and reveals what a super lock geek I am, but this video really did make my day!
Guys i wanna ask both of you any advice for best lock in my security door for lets say 2020 ? And i mean something that gonna make their life really hard to open !! By the way i’m a plumper so not more than 250 euro to buy! Thanks both you’re awesome! 👏🏻
I may be 20 months late to the party, but what a great job of picking. I can just about manage a 5 pin Yale with (I think) one spool pin in position two.
LPL- I have "some confidence I can open these with some regularly", eh? That's sandbagging esquire talk for "I AM THE FRIGGIN' MAN, FOLKS!" Well done, good sir, and nicely presented in the video. Kudos. Cheers, /Acey
LOL... that's not what I meant. Everything's relative. I'd go days between opens when I started working on these. Compared to that, the openings are much more regular. :-) Thanks.
Picking is a definite skill... You can only learn what you are taught. And you can teach only what you know... The magical moment in between, bundled with all that practice that is the TALENT! And that sir is exactly what you have. Talent cannot be taught and it cannot be learned either. You just have to have it.
Excellent. I've been waiting for you to crack this lock. And cheers for showing how to defeat The sliders. Hopefully in the future I crack my MT5*. again Excellent....
Thanks... I've been picking them for a while. I wasn't sure that I would ever be comfortable with them (and I'm still not), but I got this lock in yesterday, and got my first open on it in less than 10 minutes... It was a very nice little confidence boost, so I figured it was time to make a video!
Wow !! I just got one of the euro versions of this MT5+ inside an IKON padlock and I must admit this one may be out of my skill level for quite some time. I would definitely consider these a high security lock.
Wow that was awesome it's way to complex for for me yet but I'll get there. I just Kenaurd cylinder in today I can't wait to get to it after work. Thank you again for the info on that.
Thanks. I don't know about "one of the best in the world" ... there are some absurdly talented people out there, and I'm a comparative beginner compared to many of them. That said, it's nice little boost for my ego!
Genuinely astonishing work! Congratulations! I was a little surprised though, given the great lengths they've gone to, that the didn't put serrations on the outer pins
Thanks... as for the lack of serrations, many seem to think that standard pins are harder in MTL's than spooled or serrated pins. I tend to agree, but the really heavy tension that I favor negates much of the difficulty.
That was just amazing :). Excellent gutting too and very informative to see , what's inside such a complex lock. Thank you, that you took the time to show it. Was there a little bend in your dimple pick? I use a bent hairclip on a metal handle for sliders ;), but never ever will be able such a mtl I guess ;)).
I was noticing how closely the width of the true gates match the shelf in the sidebar. I can imagine the perceptible "jiggle" in a set slider must be very subtle! Also, how are your hands not shaking after you opened this lock?
This is going to sound strange, but its not so much that I feel movement in the slider, but more that I don't feel binding. I know that doesn't make that much sense, but it's true. The movement is subtle -- the binding is not.
Actually, that doesn't really sound strange at all. The Twin is a little bit like that. Probably not to the same degree, but it actually makes perfect sense :)
oops hit the send button by accident what a great video thank you so much. really showed how much skill you really have can't wait to get to that point. I'm still working on Kwikset.👍👍👍😅
I hate you! Lol I have drug dealers living above me, that won't leave me alone & just when I think I've bought the only lock that was advertised as not being able to be picked. And then I find this video, Free for anyone to watch! All after paying $208. For a new mortise with 2 keys. To replace my old mul-t-lock mortise. They've managed to completely disable my wifi security cameras & I know they've been picking my locks. I always find bend Bobby pins & opened paper clips by my door when I get home among other like items, dollarstore electric toothbrushes with the brush missing etc .
So basically what you're saying is that these are virtually impossible to open considering how much effort it was required from someone as skilled as you.
Thanks... why not just empty a couple of the chambers? That seems like it will be a more helpful learning tool IMO. Maybe start with 3 chambers, and work up from there? Don't forget that you're swimming in the deep end of the pool with the interactive+ pins!
I think that's what I'll do. Right now I got roped into watching Jungle Book with the little guy. I actually think I'll try it with just pin 3. I believe that's where I'm having all my trouble.
Actually you can open the Bowley Lock with the bypass tool in the picture link below. However the new Grade 2 Bowely Lock has a cylinder shield that has very close tolerance that the diameter of the shield is 1/32" smaller than the actual diameter of the lock hole so this bypass tool won't work on the new Bowley Lock. Plus the new Bowley Lock have a tolerance of less than 1/8" all around the throw bolt. And the Mul-T-Lock MT5+ above with the deadbolt version can be open with a similar bypass tool that can reach in and push the throw bolt open, as the cylinder shield of Mul-T-Lock MT5+ deadbolt version does not have a very close tolerance with the diameter of the cylinder shield 1/4"-3/8" smaller than the diameter of the lock hole. And there is a big gap all around the throw bolt that the cylinder shield leave open that does not exist in the new Bowley Lock grade 2. login.filesanywhere.com/FS/M.aspx?v=8c7268865995a37bb29c
Got a question for you. I got yesterday a MT5 lock and to be quite honest I think they are easyer to open than the normal MTL with no interactive elements, do you have the same impression?
Tough to answer. First, put aside the interactive nonsense. That's for key control only. Actually makes picking easier because you know where the one interactive pin will set. Second, the type of pin matters. MT5 outer pins are all standard. SOme people think they are harder. I don't. I think they are using too little tension, whereas I use absurd amounts of tension. In addition, it's possible that some people don't realize that many MT5 cores are countermilled, which can be confusing if you are not expecting it. Personally, I think the hardest outer pin is the serrated drivers that can be found in Classics and Interactives... particularly when there paired with the spooled outer key pins. Third, the really hard part of MT5 pins is the way the inner driver and outer key pins lock together. Some post 2008 interactive locks have a similar system... and they are just as hard. That said, overall, I think the MT5 pins are the hardest because they are smaller (requiring more precision in picking inner and outer pins separately), and the way the pins lock together.
Thank you for the thorugh answer. Then I need to find some more MT5s to compare, because the one I got the other day poped 10 min after I started playing with it. and for the next few hours I could open it in a few minutes. I will try to make a video soon.
Those are not unreasonably short pick times for someone experienced with MTL's (I assume you are not talking about the MT5+ with the sliders). It is definitely faster than my average, but it doesn't strike me as outrageous. Have you taken it apart yet to see if it is master keyed? You may find the video that I'm going to post shortly interesting... a master keyed MT5+. Oddly, the first MT5 I had was usually hard, and gave me a great deal of trouble... thus, I went for a while thinking these pins were harder than they are. While the interlocking feature is tricky, it is definitely pickable once you get used to it.
Hmm it is written only MT5 on the key, does not look like it has sliders. No I haven't gutted it yet, not at home at the moment (i'm in Mexico fo two weeks because of work) Will send you a picture in a bit.
according to the door it is on, you might be able to use a hole saw to drill it whole out of the door. that's if the locking latch is not hardened steel.
Here’s a suggestion! How about a video oriented for helping honest people protect there hard earned property rather than everything you produce schooling thieves on how to defeat security barriers!Maybe a top 5 most difficult locks to defeat.
That is just amazing... If Pickers were ranked like chess players I have no doubt you would have grand master status. That slider side bar arrangement gives me nightmares, the good kind though.
Wizard level is when you can look at all those pins and say "this one oughta be here". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1fX8ql1sa1E.html
The UL Rating used to refer to pick and drill resistance. UL would allow 10 minutes for drilling with standard tools, something a thief would carry. Same for picking, UL would allow 10 minutes with standard tools. I would consider the picks your using as standard tools. So, when you have a UL listed lock picked in about 6 minutes.... Goes to show the skill picking a dimple lock, with a sidebar - in about 6 minutes. That takes some skill.
Yes, picks do qualify as the tools contemplated by UL437, and the rating is a joke. All full-sized MTL's with the extra drill protection are UL rated, and you've seen how fast I can pick though the classics and interactives. Same for the TuBAR locks, Duo, etc. Same for the ASTM pick rating.
And I thought this would be one of the few 'virtually unpickable' locks. But I knew this was coming! I did not expect it to happen in 6 minutes. Thought I'd have to pack a lunch to see it, lol. So when are you going to take on world champion picker in competition? Got my vote in being ready!
Need to give up on mechanical locks. At your front door you can connect to your battery supported wi-fi network with your phone via https -- or your video camera system can see you, compare you to yesterday's image, and unlock the door.
if i could afford to fly you in to Israel, I would, just to see the look on the face of my local locksmith, who's attitude is "if I can't do it, nobody can, and these locks are unpickable!" and btw, i really like your videos, thank you for your good work.
LOL... I didn't start picking until I had been a lawyer for several years. I doubt that I could have afforded the hobby on a student budget... at least not to the extent that I do now.
So, it's safe to assume with no doubt whatsoever that if someone has the skill to pick this lock there is no way I have stuff worth their bother? I wish I could buy a lock and be that certain. I wish I knew how little I can spend and have that certainty.
My locksmith recommended the Interactive plus, bc the MT5+ allegedly has a problem with sticking or binding occasionally. I haven’t heard anyone else complain about this. Have you heard of or experienced this problem?
Why would you have expected them to be spring loaded? They are positively controlled in both directions by the track in the key, so it is not needed. I think that the spring loaded sliders are a TINY bit easier because they make it easier to detect when the slider is in the true gate.
I pin these things on a regular basis...tip on removing the plug once turned-turn counter clockwise slightly and it will follow right out; the drivers will ride on a solid surface between the bottom pins and ball bearing. Make sure you hold onto the sidebar :)
I can only imagine but in all honesty I had no doubt and was actually anticipating this video soon especially after I seeing that you sent your ikon clone out :)
LOL, you read me like a book. That was my first MT5+ and, for some reason, that half of the euro cylinder was pretty easy to pick... probably because that was the lock on which I developed my picking method for them. Strangely enough, the other half is awesome for practice. It never picks the same way twice, and I have it sitting in the Rotalok that Rick sent me a couple months ago. THAT will be an epic pick (if I can do it) -- opening an MT5+ in my hand that's mounted in a housing that rotates on ball bearings!
I have 2 very important question: 1. If a not very skilled picker try without succes, can he damage the lock? 2. If necessary can you also close (lock it back) after you opened?
The saying is, that you should never pick a lock you rely on so yeah it is definitely possible to break a lock while picking it. As to if you're able to close the lock back up, you just turn the tention wrench in the opposite direction to close it back up.
Thanks. I've never attempted any Abloy disc detainer locks, and don't have any reason to think that I'd be more successful than others... someday, I'll give them a shot, but right now there are too many other locks on my "to do" list for me to even start thinking in that direction.
LockPickingLawyer So, that locks is not pickable at all, at the moment? And have you tried to pick locks with CLIQ electronic pin? Not digitally, but by mechanical manipulations?
Perhaps so, but this lock is definitely a "her" ... beautiful, forbidding, mysterious, fascinatingly complex, strong yet delicate, providing only the most subtle of feedback, requiring time and dedication from all suitors, and lowering her defenses only to those who persevere and are found worthy!
Very poetic, I gotta say, but be it is very risky business, where she is the judge and jury of when something doesn't fly =) You can file for an appeal, but it doesn't change anything once the first verdict is done =)
tumbl3r Thanks. I just looked at the video I have planned for tomorrow -- I said the same thing upon opening (with reference to a very similar lock... hint, hint). I wonder how many of my other videos feature that phrase.
