I like having the rough side up on a coaster. it collects the condensation better.

Some turned out better than others. I personally prefer the originals with the plastic wrap. Definitely give you credit for trying.

Thank you for trying this out. I think if you sprayed the black on the smooth side you would have covered the pigment powder, and you could have used clear on the druzy side. Either way, you are obviously someone who isn't afraid to try anything.

I appreciate that you do these experiments for us! I think this one was mostly a fail, but certainly helpful to see & work thru. I have found that I let the resin sit 5mins after mixing, carefully torch in cup, then pour from low height, give it a minute, heat gun or torch it, give it 5 & heat gun or torch again then I alcohol it, give it 5 & alcohol again, cover & walk away!! It requires a resin with extended work time but the bubbles are gone. It's a painful process but seems to work better. I had such a traumatic time when I first started because everything had tons of bubbles & ruined all the beautiful arts I had made (vases, resin pcs, pics). You give such inspiration by doing all of this! Thank you so much for sharing both the awesome & the not so awesome. Makes me feel like I can do it too! 🥰

Hi Julie, I actually tried the cling wrap technique and sent a picture to you as you once said on one of your videos that you like to see what we do too . Mine were nowhere near as good but I was pleased with it for a first attempt . Love the druzy hearts on this video but I prefer the original technique for coasters but still very pretty . Just found your channel and am loving your videos. One hint... colour shift pigments tend to have a better effect when they are on a black base (or a solid colour). The shifts are more prominent and tend to give a neater effect. So a black resin as opposed to clear would look very nice with that mould I bet. They still turned out pretty

Idea... maybe make them... then place them smooth side down in a regular flat style coaster mold with a touch of silicone or hot glue to seal the edge of the coaster to the mold and then the druzy side with a dark resin 💗

They are definitely different than the other ones. But are still pretty in their own way. The hearts are really pretty.

Another RU-vid with a bubble problem mould tried a technique where she poured a thin layer first, then used a silicone tool and rubbed the resin into the crevices. Seemed to work as she had no bubbles. Might be worth trying on this one.

These are pretty I liked the Crystal side before you sprayed, but an interesting experiment. Of the two sets I thing the set you did with plastic wrap were nicer I they look like silk so beautiful. Stay safe love and hugs xx

Just a suggestion: You could try using a silicone applicator type spatula and just rubbing a small amount of resin across the bottom to work the resin into all the little crevices and then adding more resin after that’s completed.

If you pour the resin closer to the mold... You'll have less bubbles. The higher you pour, the more bubbles you get

I think another coat of black would work. Although, it appears some colors work better than others. I am anxious to see some more experiments with the pigments.

I just wondered if you had a spray painted the back instead of directly on the color portion would you have gotten a better outcome?

That is quite an interesting look, however I like the satin look better. I would use packing tape around the outside edge to make a barrier and then use black resin to cover. You'll get the black backing but also a flat bottom.

a lightly damp sponge or paper towel works pretty good for cleaning mica brushes in between. also you could mix a small batch of resin with your mica and brush it on instead of using straight mica on your mold. would help with the floating powder. they came out pretty!

Hello there...or shall I say G’Day.......... I having been using color shifting, and chameleon powders from a company called Solar Dust Company. I will admit that I have not tried it in resin, as I have only used it to pain shoes. The color shifting powders only worked on a black background, but the thermogenic that I have used in a clear base work wonders and have been so much fun for my grandkids. I have painted t-shirts and shoes and they change from one color to another based on whether the sun is shining. I have also used that one in resin to make bracelets doe the girls and they change colors based on the heat from their little wrists, sort of....they are too little to have rings so I make bracelets for after they stop chewing on everything. I have thought about using it on a ceramic mug to see if it changes colors by thermo heat through a mug. If that makes sense. They have a great little trial pack for mot very much money. I would give them a try!

This is also a nail design. On nails for the chameleon powder to work or any chrome powder to pop it must be applied directly over the black. To get the mirror effect of the pigment you need to remove all excess pigment off the surface.

These are cool. Try using a gloved finger to put in the powder. Maybe that will add less powder and stop the floating. I also say you can use 91% alcohol sprayed on lightly to stop bubbles.

Would mixing the mica powders with resin to begin with, keep that mica powder from floating up maybe put a thin layer on of the mica powder mix and let it dry and then put clear or black over that, not sure just a thought

I love your coasters before the back, but I love the crystal side the best. Too bad you can't take them out flip them over and pour resin over the crystal side so you could use that as the top of the coaster.

I would use less pigment and buff it in more and black resin.

I think you sprayed the one side because youbwanted to have smooth coasters. But I think if you had used black instead of clear, and let the textured side be the top of the coaster they may have come out better. You said you want to try another experiment, and I am just wondering if you are going to start with a layer of black resin, let it cure, do the micah and then clear on top? I think that could help the colors look better, but the micah will still float up and I don't think that will look as nice as using the bumpy side up. I don't really know anything, its just my thinking because those color changing pigments always seem to look nicer when they are not on a flat surface. Oh that dark purple and the blue were lovely next to the gold! I would love to see all 3 of those used together 🥰 I didn't realize how much I was going to love the white(clear?) until you demolded it. But I liked it better before the black was added. It had a lovely iridescent look to it

Hi julie love your videos, I've really wanted to do the plastic wrap ones but I carnt get it to work I've tried with less resin and it didnt work tried another 5 times adding more clear each time but they all went the same way the plastic pulled all the resin out on the plastic even tho I know the resin doesnt normal stick to the wrap I used tried 2 other types of plastic aswell but none of them worked ☹ please help tell me what I doing wrong? Could it be I'm using the wrong type of resin ?

I am really a rookie here, but agree, the rough side up would look great if the surface might just be sanded a bit to let the pigment through. Or am I talking bully now?

No disrespect intended, but why do you mask up when spray painting but don’t wear a respirator mask when pouring resin?

What if you try pouring black in your round mold... Putting the powder not so heavy on your druzy insert and when the black sets up a bit you put the insert face down in it. Just an idea

What did you use to make that Druzy affect for your molds?

Definitely like the saran wrap ones better. All the mica powder floating around not pleasing to the eye.
