Whether you like them or loathe them that was a great Leeds team to stay at the top for 10 years with the same players and only one sub is a tremendous achievement.

If Revie had been at least five years younger,Leeds United would maybe more pre-eminent in the 70s and would have eclipsed Liverpool.

The problem Leeds had was not planning ahead like Liverpool did as they morphed from team to team, keeping some their whole career whilst others left after a few years being replaced by a Third Div player who Liverpool had marked out. I mean, Leeds brought in Jordon & McQueen but after a few years sold them to Man U.

Has an Everton fan I recall when Leeds came up from the old second division, into the first in season 1964-65. I was at the game at Goodison Park in November 1964 when both teams were taken off near half time, due to a highly charged clash between some players. A tackle by Paul Reaney on Derek Temple was the trigger point. A goal by Willie Bell won the points for Leeds that afternoon. Later in the season in January 1965 both sides met in the 4th round of the FA Cup and a replay at Everton saw Leeds win 2-1. It was one of the most competitive games I ever saw, The crowd was around 68,000. Norman Hunter once said games between Everton and Leeds in the 1960s were the hardest Leeds were a formidable side, with many great players. Both sets of supporters might wish they had the players from both clubs in the 1960s

This must be the first season of The Big Match....a season after ATV London's Star Soccer....I think Star Soccer became Midlands only,this season!

Brave of Ure to go on and honestly talk through what was a nightmare of a game.

The only game Jack Charlton missed all season. Speake, Reaney, Bremner and Hunter played in all 42 matches. Jones missed just 2 and O'Grady just 4. Tremendous consistency.

This is Canada calling... Always enjoy these Matches as old as I am showing more mature style of play than today's dive-filled games - though impressive cross by Strake, regardless... That Sunderland snippet was a nice nugget despite both short and a goal against - at least they aren't bottom of their Division at present... Thanks for Ye Olde uploads, Sire. Respect

How did Sprake avoid getting sent off?! Inconceivable in the modern game 😂

Great left hook from sprake,Henry cooper would have been proud of that, still Leeds were a great side back then, even though they could give a bit of g,b,h out the golden age of football. Adiós amigos

Why was Sprake not sent off for that punch on Gould
@hejla4524
@hejla4524 Год назад
You can tell the other Leeds players were not impressed. Turned their backs on Sprake while he lay injured which is the opposite to what usually happened with this tight-knit Leeds side.

In those days you had to commit a serious offence to be sent off.

It was 1969 and like a leg breaking tackle the first punch didn't count. back then ..if you watch closely and a lot miss this but Bobby Gould kicks out at GS and then got his reward.Ken Burns the referee owed Leeds one after disallowing a great Peter 'Lash' Lorimer goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup the season before.

Love Norm but bloody hell he was a liability sometimes. how many goals did opponents get from free kicks just because he had upended someone. wouldnt change him though. CLASS!

@@YeOldeFootballChannel Really is a great pity, his uploads were a mine of information. As a Villa fan, I have always been fascinated about the grim times we suffered in the 1960's but there is virtually no footage. He had a couple of games as far back as 1962 which were so valuable and made for very interesting viewing.
