Leonel Lomas delasalle coach had players coming from all over the USA just to play football in prep for college football. Curry had boys from a small town of 5000 people to pull from. Your assertion falls flat. Curry was a much better coach
It looks like Mike Bennett is the big dawg in town now and even though I played high school football in Texas and grew up in the same small town atmosphere like Berwick I'm truly rooting for him as the head coach to succeed and get them back to dominating again. It's a crying shame now we have all of these private schools recruiting all of the talent instead of how it use to be when the public schools would battle and have the final rankings come out to see who won the mythical national title. I hope Bennett succeeds there he looks phenomenal for his age.
Curry recruited my cousin James Mungro (93-97. Syracuse and Indy Colts )after his FRESHMAN year at East Stroudsburg. Offered his mother a Manager job at a Mc Donalds in Berwick. He was well known for moving players into Berwick. Now they can legally
I was at the game at Lackawana county stadium against ACC with my dad. I was probably 6 or 7. Went to a rival scool,Coughlin. Got made fun of for rooting for berwick. Now at 35 I still root for the dawgs. Been to a heck of a lot of games with my dad. Not man guy better memories than those
I was at that game as well! I'm 36, so I was 11 at the time, 5th grade. My family moved from Bethlehem to the Clarks Summit area (Abington Heights) over Thanksgiving weekend (the week before) in 1993 so we had known about ACC all year. Having just moved to NEPA and watching a HS football game in a triple-A baseball stadium was weird. I remember sitting in the upper deck under the awning to stay dry. We also drove down to the 1994 game at Goodman Stadium (Lehigh) when ACC was ranked #3 in the country. Berwick got their revenge to setup the epic game against Manheim.
I played at Stroudsburg 92-94. Watched it on TV. That ACC team was special. I played a lot if them following year in the McDonalds Lehigh Valley All Star. That ACC team beat the piss out of Danny Kendra every time they played him. Our Stroudsburg team was ranked 4th in 94 aftet ACC Bethlehem Catholic and Phillipsburg NJ
My hometown was also a football crazed town, though a little better on the economic side (Manheim Central). Ironically, the same season as this video was shot, the Barons won the district title game, but didn't get to play any further finishing 13-0. I'm not sure why or how that ended up to be, but on the other side, ACC was only 12-0 coming into this game.
@@specialteams28 Yes they in fact met several times in the PIAA AAA state playoffs over the years! But Manheim unfortunately not once was able to get past Berwick! It took until 2003 for Manheim Central to finally clear the Eastern playoffs hurdle and play for a state title! Strath Haven became their post-Berwick nemesis from 1998-2002
