She's a handsome ship, not showing nearly as much running rust or 'weathering' as the ocean going ships I'm used to seeing. Hard to believe she's 80 years young, seems to still have lots of life left in her hull. Thank you for posting this.
This is a beautuful ship seem well kept/maintained. These Lakers have facinated me for years, my grandfther and a couple cousins were deepwater sailors in Sail and Steam so we have a maritime history. When I see a laker I think of the Aurthur M Anderson and Capt. Bernie Cooper hazarding his ship to turn broadside to a massive gale to put about to look for the Edmund Fitzgerad, when all others refused to do so. God bless Capt Cooper and his crew and the men of "The Big Fitz".
I'm from Saginaw and remember the E.M. Ford and Paul Townsend tied together at the Carrollton dock for years till they were hauled away and scrapped. Sad. I live in Georgia now and the only ice I've seen is in my iced tea. It's 69 now.
Greetings from Birmingham UK. That's a nice video you took there. I watch a couple of Duluth channels, so I've seen most of the regulars. But this looks like a nice spot to film so I've subbed to see what else you find. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🇬🇧
Great footage! Is it possible for me to use and upload this footage on my own youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage and your page will be linked. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Thanks!
They are not built as ice breakers. Any ship can break a small amount of ice with it's hull but they are not specifically designed for it. So no she does not have an ice rated hull.
What an opportunity to convert a disused beauty to a Great Lakes tourist passenger ship? Just a thought!! So sad that we slowly lose historical significant infrastructure to the dust bin and scrape yards of history.
When will the lakes stop freezing? When are they going to dry up? When are they going to flood? Been hearing these things from "scientists" for decades. When???
