if you glue the smooth side of the cable ties to the pick you then have a surface with a built in grip surface. You could also cover with the shrink tubing some older pickers need that type of surface to give extra grip

The "bristles" from street sweeper trucks make great material too! They are fairly thin steel, and break off all the time, so you can find them just laying around in the streets!!! Make sure you do clean then thoroughly though ;)

Pill organizers are a great place to keep pins. The one I use has 28 compartments and sells for less than 10$ US on Amazon. A tray holds seven removable containers each with four compartments. The black lettering (eg. Monday Lunch) comes off easily with cello tape so you can put on your own labels or just write on the lids with a sharpie.

Music wire (piano wire) for making custom tensioners. A Leatherman-style multi-tool usually has everything you need to bend and file the wire. You can get any angles you want on the fly (or on the job). Pre-cut a few and bring them with you. When the tip becomes dull or worn, cut it of and file a new tip with tight fit. (I actually made a video using one...)

Awesome Hax! Here's a few I have... 1. The black metal banding used on shipments secured to pallets is very strong in the up/down direction yet thin and flexible in the left/right direction. A roll is a lifetime supply. 2. Selfie stick followers have a groove which can accept the driver pins and keep the follower from rotating and allow the pins to be nestled. 3. Those same selfie-stick followers are fantastic as a size adapter for a DIY silencer on a BB pistol (CO2 type). Damn fun! (Check YT for instructions) 4. Your Dremel shaft looks as though it may be slightly bent or off alignment. Time to spoil yourself with a new Dremel. Thx for all your vid's Dude!

I made lock picks from hacksaw blades. I have some in .022” and .018”. I’m sure they have thickness in between. They use high carbon steel and they are very cheap. 1 blade can make 2 picks. Add some heat shrink tubing for handle and we are good to go.

Another hack: precision knife handles can be used with credit card picks (especially those from A.Wendt but to a lesser extend also the cheap James Bond set) or self-made picks made from wiper inserts, to make handling them much easier.

The stainless steel zip ties if cut with a profile like a knife pick, work better when bypassing combo locks then the blunt tip you showed. also when cut with the knife profile they can be used as a decoder. If you cut a tapered notch about 5mm from the tip of the stainless steel zip tie, it works in place of “the long shoot” picks. I actually find the stainless steel zip ties more effective then the long shot because it slides in and out through the lock without hanging up on anything except the release pin in mortis locks

I just rediscovered a nail-polishing gadget that might be of use. It's a roughly 17.5 x 2 x 1.5 cm (7 x 0.8 x 0.6 inch sort of) spongy bar with abrasive areas around it. On the top and bottom there are some rough abrasive material and on the sides there are areas marked; Step 1 : Even out, Step 2 : Smooth, Step 3 : Buff, Step 4 : Shine. They actually work for polishing a hook or rake if you get a nick (burr or maybe a flash you didn't notice on a new pick) in them. The weight is negligible and perhaps something to carry in your EDC-kit. Nice to have if you find that a tool needs some polishing. I used these "bars" when building plastic models since they allowed me to sand and polish clear parts, like air-craft canopies with a molding-seam in the middle - didn't think about using them on metal until now. This is not a heavy duty tool, but it would work "in the wild" if you realize a hook has a burr or flash somewhere interfering with feedback.

I'd like to see more of these. Have you ever made your own lock pick folder/jackknife? I'm in the middle of making one with those little knock off swiss army multi-tools that has a knife, file & scissors. Turning them into picks like a hook, half diamond & then a snake/bogota hybrid. & then put a tension wrench in place of the tooth pick & then was thinkin about keeping the tweezers to maybe use as a shim for the combo locks. Havent tried it tho.

Would like a touch more on the stainless steel ties. What kind of cuts and shapes work best or general

I only use them as they are, but a 30 degree angle cut might work better

I knew hanging on to my wife's honker harness wires would come in handy someday.

Go to your local MOT center, they change dozens of wind screen wipers every day , just ask for them to put the old ones by for you.

in the uk we have places like halfords who are more than happy to let you pick up their old windscreen wipers (in my experience), their staff change customers wiper blades all the time and put the old ones in a dedicated bin usually, always nice to get a wide variety of thicknesses and widths/lengths

True for the US car inspectors. Better bet is to go to an auto parts store that offers wiper installation, especially during or just after the rain.
