During the descent on a pretty slanted road, I once turned off the ignition of the car and let it slide freely in Neutral. As I tried to apply the brakes, I realised that they had completely stuck and even the steering got locked. The car was rolling on a very high speed and had something come in front of it, it would have surely gotten run over. I panicked but managed to turn on the ignition in time and regain the control of brakes and the steering. It still sends chills down my spine whenever I recall this incident. I was lucky to get away without any accident. This incident makes me realise how dangerous an automobile can be if we mess up. Need to use every bit of our focus while driving.
It happened because the power steering and power brakes function only while engine is running. And when engine is off they don't get locked but instead function as normal brake and steering which we feel difficult to operate as we r used to power features

The point about uphill start is correct up to a certain elevation, but handbrake alone can't stop the car from being pushed back. Most of the cars today have disc brakes equipped in the front wheels which are always more effective in case of stopping power. You can use it to your advantage if you have a very good toe and heel coordination along with proper clutch usage, and then balance it thereby putting less strain on transmission when starting uphill and preventing car from rolling back. Handbrake should mostly be used to park the car when not in much of an incline or decline. Point to be remembered is that handbrake is never the only safe option for braking, but it is preferred to always park the car in places of no change in elevation.

I use Scorpio s10 from last 3 years ... By watching your video i realise my mistake.. i.e 1. Mostly my second Hand on the gear liver. 2. Half clutch drive . 3. Mainly use long drive approx 400-500 in a single day. 4. Wash vechicle between no time gap of journry not even gap of 3to5 minute
There's no problem with ur uphill concept but the downhill concept will surely damage ur throw bearing...its easy to fix ur brks but expensive to fix ur clutch....so bring it down to neutral n apply brakes...this is why we have brakes
I also driving k 10 till 6 years same way. down side , drive neutral, control speed with brakes,it is no load on engine,so it will give you extra engine life &replacement of brake pads very low.

One more thing I should tell u from my experience. Minimum application of brakes. While running a car one need to judge perfectly that at what speed he should run so that he can make best out of acceleration. But only experienced person should try this...

10.01 The engine oil after being idle for 8-10 hours goes down or falls a certain level down in every car which is diesel or petrol even if you purchased it a day before you should atleast give a 3-4 mins ideal start in summer and 7-8 in extreme winters so that the oil comes to up level and then you can drive.. Try it and you will feel the change (Bhai kuch bhi mt bolo ki nayi gadi main lod nahi hota)
You basically cannot drive with 2 hands on steering as the steering wheel is hydraulic nowadays which requires usage of one hand only. My left hand is mostly placed in the arm rest provided near the handbrake

Here want to highlight one more important point... About AC.. If u r starting ur car.. Ac should be switched off at this time.. After few minutes u should start ur AC... And same goes for when u stop ur car... Is it true?
Need one clarity. With a turbo engine car during a long drive we get lots of Red lights. Does this mean we should never switch off our car at the Red lights? In Delhi, with pollution and Fuel prices soaring high, this suggestion does not seem viable at all.

One tip to get u started.. when u hold ur vehicle on the handbrake ans take a pick up, you will realise that your vehicle will rise a bit on spot.. that is the best time to release the handbrake. It will never roll back if u crack this.
I don't think driving the car on down slope with initial gears on is a good idea, since it'll be putting a lot of pressure on the gear box, and the car will be actually leaning on the gear box to control the speed
