Thanks for these tips. Let me add three things: The higher diesel quality and DEF fluid needed for modern diesel engines are not an issue, as this can be easily adapted via the electronic engine management. There are specialised firms on the market doing this. And yes, you are right, the budget is important, but not only for the purchase, but also for the maintenance and service of the vehicle. And here the differences could be significant. You have to finance both in the long term. You talked about fuel sources and battery capacity. Right. The important question however is: for how long do you want to be self sufficient in the middle of nowhere? This determines the technical concept of your vehicle. Cheers (currently on Iceland)
If we cruise at 62 mph it leaves us something in reserve because the governor kicks in around 3000 rpm. Considering our truck is almost always fully loaded it definitely does not have a lot of power. We have to downshift to 4th or 3rd on extreme grades. On the positive side...the truck may be slow but it keeps going and going and going.
@@outliersoverland thanks for the quick response!!! Just found you guys and now I can't stop searching for a crew cab fuso. I need something that seats 6 (4 kids). Keep up the great channel.
Hi, thanks for the tips. My issue with Roro shipping is the security. The amount of vehicles that have had everything stolen from inside since it was bot inside a container
Great video, well done. I can't help but notice in your shots of the camper how much it sways and tilts, and also the differential between the box and cab. Does the cab have special suspension for driver comfort, and does it smash your dishes all the bouncing around?
Yes thank you to reply...welcome to South East Asia countries such as from the west to east than south...Myanmar,Thailand,Cambodia, Loas,Vietnam,Malaysia,Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei and to Australia.
Awesome first video in your educational series. These are the exact things Tami and I are working through. I’m trying not to get caught up in the research! Thank goodness we have a couple of years before we’ll be moving in this direction. Love you guys! ❤️❤️❤️
I finally acquired a van I have a 1982 G25 Skyline conversion van I have a video of it on my channel foreverfixin but it's not four wheel drive I have a 2001 Ford Explorer 2 door 4 by 4 I am going to make it my off-road rig I have a trailer frame that would make a huge tear drop I'm going to build my trailer from scratch exactly how I want it I know I'm not going to get everything right but I think it'll be closer do what I want I've got some pretty good ideas on the trailer I miss seeing y'all vlogs you'll have slowed down a bit but I understand y'all or one of the people that inspire me to do the whole RV thing keep an eye out on my channel because I am going to document the build of the 4 by 4 and the camper bild
Great information. Just started watching your videos as I'm about to retire and am researching expedition vehicles. Your rig looks very much like what kind of set up I'm looking for, have you done a walk through video on it? Also what's your thoughts on a Unimog EV, too slow, reliability? Thanks in advance.
Thank you and congratulations. Here's a tour from right after we purchased it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ypDLB52Ykk4.html We felt for where we want to go (around the world) and what we want to do that a Unimog or LMTV type of vehicles were just too much of everything. Too expensive, too big, too slow, too much work to restore, too much for maintenance, too old, etc... The only thing the big chassis have going for them is you can have a larger camper box, which is priceless space when full timing. It's all about compromises.
Outliers Overland we fell in love with the trip down, only problem for us was we were not set up for boondocking, slept in the back of our Ford Expedition on a queen memory foam but needed to be near amenities. I am still trying to decide what to do, camper on the Dodge Ram 3500 we already own or spend some $ and get some sort of cab over diesel 4x4. I LOVE the cab over design for off reading!!!
