We went to the Sci Fi Dine In on our honeymoon, and our carhop set up our car with a "just married" sign and cans on the back! It was such a sweet touch and we didn't even notice until we got our pictures back. :)
I would listen to AJ reading the telephone book. Love her voice and the way she delivers the information. Especially the giggle. Love the content, and the presentation
At Sci-Fi, most of the cars have 6 seats in 3 rows of two. If you're a party of 3-4, you may end up with "hitchhikers" in the back of your car. If you're a party of 1 or 2, you may *be* hitchhikers!
We eat here every visit. My daughters first trip, she was only two. It was a last minute trip so no ADRs available even though it was off season and 2015. Since they could not give me a reservation via the phone like my mother always had done at the hotel during peak Xmas/New Years, I attempted the old fashion way of walking right up to it to make a reservation, again, something she had done successfully during peak Xmas/New Years (pre my Disney experience). They told me that they could not do a reservation but that they were accepting walk ups. Well, it was 11, and we just had a big character meal at 10, so we weren’t really hungry. They told us to come back when ready. 2pm on a weekday afternoon, off peak, when people still claim it’s a half day park, they said they did not take walk ups!!! I was heartbroken! But then I realized, my daughters only 2. I returned and asked them if they had anything available for two, doesn’t even have to be a car, and explained how she would sit on our lap if need be. Well, they sat us immediate in the back of a 3 row, and there was plenty of room for all three of us!
Sci-Fi is my favorite restaurant in terms of atmosphere in Disney. The food is just ok, but I'm a huge fan of old bad movies (especially Sci-fi) so this place just makes me happy.
From what I understand, Mama Mellrose's was originally supposed to be a Muppet themed restaurant called Rizzo's pizzeria. There was supposed to be some elaborate system where the Muppet rats would scurry overhead along the structural beams and deliver people's food. It was supposed to be part of a much larger Muppet section of the park that fell through when Jim Henson passed away in 1990. That's why the theming and backstory seems so thin; it was a slapdash overlay to a mostly completed restaurant that simply served to sand off the Muppet logos.
The Voice of the Magic continues to be A light for All who Love the Magic. AJ is a Constant someone who exemplifies Exceptional. When you have darkness you Always have those Shining Bright. AJ is Amazing. Thank You
50s prime time cafe was a childhood favorite. I felt so proud when they told the entire restaurant that I cleared my entire plate and the whole place clapped for me. I remember whispering canyon, and sci-fi dine in is one of my favorites.
Emily P yeah I was done with my food and there was corn left on my plate so this man picked up the fork and was like open your mouth you need to eat the rest of this 🤣
@@katrinarocco7474 the annoying cousin was at the next table telling jokes and just being generally loud and obnoxious. It was hilarious. Had some good belly laughs.
Would love single restaurant backstory & walkthrough videos in which we get to take a better look at all the decor and hear extended details. 💕 Thank you for continuing to make videos, AJ and Team 💕
Great idea! Some of the restaurants in the parks, hotels, and even boardwalk and Disney Spring area bars have really interesting decor and backstories.
Krishna R I try to take in decor, but ya know how hectic and exhausting trips are no matter how well you plan. It would be so nice to wind down from current affairs by really getting to look at everything in the restaurants. Little video vacations. ☺️
One that I was surprised by was the seating arrangement in Biergarten. It doesn't say anything about the seating when you book a reservation so when we got there (party of 2 adults) and we were seated with a family of 4 and another party of 2 adults, it was AWKWARD. The view for the show was great but other than that, the seating was too much for us and we don't plan on going back. The food was ok but not good enough to endure playing the lottery on who you're seated with.
Holly Stiles oh yeah that can be so weird. The last time we were there, there was a cool couple on the end but we couldn’t talk with them because of the noise level and the fact that the couple in the middle between us was having a not-so-subtle fight. As in ... they were either headed for a divorce or jail that night. And they were drinking. GoOd TiMeSsssssss. The waiter ended up befriending us (Robert!) and giving us good behavior stickers (which I still proudly display at home). 😂
Holly Stiles I enjoyed the seating arrangement but I’m also an extrovert and had just finished “drinking around the world”, so making friends with the people with whom we shared a table was no problem :)
Fort Wilderness has one of the best overall stay experiences. I saw the Revue when I was 6 and 21 years old and will go when Im 50 with friends. The food is always really good and the show very entertaining for everyone. A huge recommendation for everyone especially if you stay at Ft Wilderness.
Love the Sci-Fi Dine In. The "movie" trailers are hilarious. I've always wanted to try the 50s diner but never had a chance. I guess I'll have to plan that for my next trip!
@@EnchantedEars Our last experience with the food at Sci-Fi was excellent, but I understand that not always the case. All the adults in our extended family had steak except for our food-sensitive daughter who had a special-cooked meal prepared by the executive chef.
I loved 50s prime time cafe. Our "uncle" said "ohhhhh honey you have a fish hook stuck in your nose" in like the most absolute concerned way lol 5 stars would recommend
Totally recommend Whispering Canyon Cafe! Best memory I have there is they asked for a volunteer and I said I would only to find that they set me up with a date.
Mar C Haha I mean this was 3 years ago and we were both 13-14 so we both just kind of stared at each other. Plus the waitress had just finished putting straws In my hair so I walked over to him with straws in my hair. But we both had a good laugh about it and was a highlight of that trip.
Anna Lesher agreed! the the best fried chicken choices at Disney are (in my opinion) 50s PTC, Hoop De Doo (and Trails End - it’s the same kitchen), and Olivia’s at Old Key West
WOWitsANT i have an opinion about that! our waitress at homecoming totally oversold the chicken. She went on and on about how incredible it was. No chicken anywhere could live up to her hype. Objectively it was good, but my memories of the others are better. That said, I will give it a second chance 🍗
My family went to whispering canyon last time we were there, and it was so much fun, they had us yell for ketchup as loud as we could, and we had to keep all of the ketchup bottles until someone else asked for it, and bring it to them
One time at 50’s prime time cafe my dad took out his phone and got sent to the corner having to say I will not play with toys at the table over and over
Whispering Canyon is a hidden gem. I’m so sad that I didn’t know about it last time I went to the parks- I never really went to resorts other than my own
About 12 years ago I went to whispering canyon when i was 2 and they had a hobbly horse race around the restaurant for the little kids. idk if they still do that but my dad said that I loved that 😂.
Ate at 50’s Prime Time when I was 13 (many moons ago) and it was super fun for my parents who were born in 1952 and 54. Dad kept exclamaining, “Hey I remember that show!”
I was this close 👌 to renewing my annual pass last fall but decided to hold off due to all the renovations. That was a blessing in disguise. I miss Disney so much.
Garden Grill is consistently my favorite breakfast and character meal! Food is fresh and plentiful! I should not have watched this when I was hungry- argh!
I have so many memories of these places as a kid, all are so fun and great to visit! My favorite has to be Sci-Fi as when I turned 11 I told the waitress it was my birthday and, to this day I still don't know how they did this, a lot (and I mean like 20-30) of Green Army Men stormed in and took control of the whole place!! They had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me and then dispersed to walk around or chat with the other guests for a while, shushing them if they were being too loud because they wanted to watch the movies or if there was an open spot they took a seat right next to them! It was such a surprise and really made my birthday all the more memorable!
I went to the whispering cafe place and we had never been there before, so my family and I were really confused when one of the waiters randomly yelled KETCHUP! and fifty bottles of ketchup were rushed over to a table.
TRex is one of our must dos! We love the food, love the service, and love the atmosphere. And don’t forget dessert! The chocolate extinction is amazing! And huge! FYI- I suggest not sitting in the ice cave, the harsh blue light is terrible on the eyes!
Says Hoop Dee Do is a ton of fun for kids. 1:31 terrified kids. Says you need to know what you are in for but doesn't tell you what that is. It is high anxiety producing audience participation where you can be put on the spot in front of 100 people. If this doesn't sound like fun to you, don't go!
If you get motion sick requests a table facing out. Last time I sat facing inward at Garden grill and seeing the wall move made me nauseous. However the food was incredible and will go back every time.
I remember on my very first trip to Disney World going to the sci-fi drive-in and the 50s primetime Café and having a great time at both! I know AJ almost exclusively focuses on Disney World in her videos, but I would actually love to see one that highlights any restaurants, at any of the parks, that directly tie to attractions, like Skippers being tied to the Jungle Cruise, Blue Bayou and Pirates in Disneyland, Tropical Hideaway and Tiki Room in Disneyland, and Grandma Sara’s Kitchen and Splash Mountain in Tokyo Disneyland. If you could have any attraction with a connected themed restaurant, which would it be?
The weirdest thing is not being able to visit any of them right now. 😮😉 I have ADR’s for Olivia’s and California Grill though for June 1st and my fingers are crossed!!!! 🤞😍🎩🍷🖤
Oh THAT'S why Garden Grill is popular... :O I was never interested in it because I figured the food wouldn't be very good but I wasn't aware it had a view of an attraction, even one that I enjoy riding!
ennoidyam I wholeheartedly agree with you. There are more options and better ones at that at the Landry’s restaurants. Sci-Fi cafe has the advantage of being one of a kind and right in the middle of a park. The Rainforest cafe and T-Rex (when it was a chain) are for most purposes indistinguishable from other locations outside of WDW. But I am a card-carrying Landry’s member so I do eat in at least one of them each time I’m there.
What about the Satu'li Canteen in Animal Kingdom? I visited on my trip to WDW in 2018 and it was probably one of my favorite Disney dining experiences ever other than the fond memories I have of breakfast at the Crystal Palace as a kid, before it became character dining only.
50's Prime Time Cafe HAS to be the FUNNIEST restaurant in Disney World history! We went to Hollywood Studios in Fall 2018, and our lunch reservation was there. Well, let me say this: we had NO idea what we were in for! Quick backstory thats critical to the story: My parents lived in Michigan for a while when they were first married. So, we sat down and the family beside us were from Michigan. we wouldn't have known that if the mom wasn't wearing a shirt that said "Michigan" in Michigan's team colors. We sat down and my dad saw her shirt and said, "Go Michigan!" Well, as you would have guessed, the woman replied,"are you from Michigan?" And you know what my dad said. Then the waiter came back and found us talking and said,"I see you've met your cousins from Michigan!" And she kept making funny jokes throughout the whole meal. We were there an extra 30 mins. because we had so much fun talking to those lovely people.❤️
They have something like 50's prime time café in Chicago. It's called Ed Debevicks and the slogan at the time we went was Good food, Fresh service. It was funny the waitress threw our straws at us and did other stuff it was fun.
Hoop-de-doo is a favorite of my family; always the first dinner spot we go to on our trips. So excited to try skipper's canteen on our next trip. Fingers crossed we'll make it!!
I would love one of the Disneyland Resort in California (that would include both parks and the hotels, to be clear). The Blue Bayou (Disneyland) there is a great start to the list, and another would be the Napa Rose in the Grand Californian hotel! Great video!
The atmosphere of '50's Prime Time Diner is (more than) half the fun! If you don't want to participate, there are plenty of other restaurants on property.
When to Hollywood around December and they close two months or 3 months later, last ride to go to,also my new cousins, they when to Disneyland for their first time before the virus happen
Mama Melrose reminds me a bit of a restaurant in Orange, CA (up the road from Disneyland) called Angelo and Vinci's. However, Mama Melrose has less decor stuffs than Angelo and Vinci's.
My husband and I went to 50’s prime time and didn’t know about the servers and it was a little shocking at first but funny we got in trouble for being on our phones 😂
When I was really young, my family of six went to Disney World. My parents got married and met and did all that fun jazz in Florida. We are originally from Colorado. My parents told us about the German restaurant in Epcot. We went there, and there was a classic dance. Have you heard of, the chicken dance? I was about 10 years old and my dad and I rocked the dance floor in front of everybody. We just went there just last June. We went back to the restaurant, and we waited for the chicken dance to perform together. Sadly it was not played that night. We went again during our trip, with my grandparents and, to my surprise, they still didn’t playit. That’s a tradition that I wish Disney would bring back. The food was great though. Don’t get me wrong LOL. I’m a band kid who has played percussion and the tuba, so seeing those instruments used also cheered me up as well.
Sci-Fi Dine In is still there? COOL! I loved that place when we use to go over 25 years ago. All those cool old trailers. And the Garden Grill is pretty cool too. I remember eating at Backlot Express too. Never been to or hear of most of the others. Hootnay's the only other one I recognize and I never got to see it.
the hoop is amazing, They also have Mac and Cheese if you ask. Back Lot has an amazing Cuban sandwich better than the ones I had in Miami. Whispering Canyon was amazing! I havent been there since they changed some things so we will have to go back if you say its just as fun still.
Scifi Diner theming is so cool and I hate that I had such a bad experience with the food. When we went 2 years ago some glasses had broken in the dish washer when we went to eat there and some of it ended up in my milkshake. I ended up ingesting some glass and after a couple days of stomach ache I was fine but it ruined the experience of that place for my boyfriend and I. I even had to talk to the manager and they gave me a new milkshake but it still sucked. There are some other cool restaurants though that we're excited to go to on arr next trip!
I was super happy with mama Melrose. The food didn't look impressive but it tasted awesome. We ended up spending more than we expected because of it. :)
