Mission: Accepted features successful med school applicants. We dive into their full applications, looking at specifically what worked well, along with what they could've done even better.
To apply to be featured on Mission: Accepted, fill out the application at MissionAccepted.tv/apply.

After watching this I can’t believe he didn’t get more interviews, how are you going to see that and not offer this guy an interview…

Great application. And great illustration of medical schools not looking at stats as the be all and end all. This guy is more motivated than most, and likely to be a good physician. I get so sick of people complaining about students with perfect stats not getting into school. They assume it has to do with race or ethnicity, but it does not.

10 acceptances!🎉 Congrats, I wonder how he’s doing now. I’m also shocked by the 37 rejections, his application was incredible.

One impactful story that I might use is being a secondhand witness to my dad’s decline with paranoid schizophrenia and how traumatizing it was but it wasn’t until psychiatrists helped him and got him on meds that our lives and family became whole and not so broken anymore because dad had power over his life again. I know there’s still stigma around mental health but I’ve suffered with a lot of ptsd and depression but have always managed to come out on top due to doctors and medicine.. would this be too risky to state? Or do you think it would be impactful? I’ve truly never felt such an academic passion grow inside of me until I realized that I want to become a psychiatrist.

I think that experience was the seed that started your journey, now it's left for you to water the seed ( by your impact towards your journey)

So I think this might be a good topic of discussion on a podcast/video/etc. I’m an ER tech and had the opportunity to shadow many specialties just by striking up a conversation during consults. Because I work at the hospital, surgery let’s me scrub into cases, retract, and get a bit more “hands on” than a general shadowing opportunity that you say are usually boring. We do anatomy review before every case and I get teaching points during everything, from equipment to the steps of the procedure. Are there implications to listing how it was impactful? Or should I just list the specialities like you say here. I have 4000+ clinical hours and a year before I apply so it wouldn’t be to bolster the clinical section of my app, it’s just an amazing opportunity that I do weekly after my shift.

10 acceptances yet his stats arent anything special, pretty average when concerned with matriculant data, but nowhere do I see any complaints about his race. very interesting.
