The kids these days need to watch the film Babylon and understand about the black culture, everything water doing to much and no one seems to play these kind of tunes anymore............Jahhhhhhhh rastafari.
For many reggae song classics, the original copyrighted singer had the first word, but the monumental Johnny Clarke had the last word. Very often there is the original singer’s version and then there is the definitive Johnny Clarke version. Not to imply that Johnny does not have his own copyrighted roots music. In fact he has many monumental original works. Parading one of the most mellifluous voices in reggae music, Johnny was in high demand from top drawer producers including the great Bunny Lee to produce the definitive version of many popular hit songs. Babylon a Johnny Clarke original composition, snippets of which featured in that classic London underground roots movie of the same name, is easily one of my favorite reggae tracks.
I grew up with this tune and Roots Reggae in general. We played it at school, in the bus going to school Basketball games, everywhere. Even met Johnny Clarke when I worked in Glasgow when he played a gig few years back.
How 'bout this comment Jah children : babylon Time is up in 'ah this here Generation, watch the signs in the Earth !!!!!..... time for talk is done .... babylon will pay...... " Prepare the Way of the Most High".... ~Selah~
Remember hearing Nick Manasseh playing this on Kiss and nearing the end of the dub...Nick, saying 'What A Murderous Dub'....never a better word spoken :).
