"There is always one ambitious person who wants to the sun to himself" - loved that. They seem like honest genuine down to earth people and wonderfully charming. What great people to have as neighbours.
I think they gave you a lot of hints as to what they would most value, what they expect, good neighbours, for you to be part of their community, and for them to be part of the community you are building, to share your produce like they share theirs, a spare pair of hands and a strong back, most of all to value their knowledge and experience with the land. Their passion for the place shines right through the translation.
Hi, thank you for interviewing your neighbours. I’m following a number of people who have moved onto the land and you are the first to interview local people. Maybe you could offer to feed their animals if they cannot get to the land for some reason, but the best thing is to show you respect their knowledge it always makes people feel good if they are useful🥰
Something about the bag of clothes made me cry. SO kind. ❤️ And, then the “NO” when asked would you want to live in the city, made me laugh. I feel the same way, sir. I feel the same way. No internet because he prefers to walk around and listen to the birds. 🥰 This is the life. Please interview more neighbors. I could sit and listen to the wisdom of the elders all day.
As a portuguese it makes me super happy seeing this, I live in the uk for a few years but more and more I feel the calling to go back to my roots, to preserve this smiles and beautiful stories. I just cried my eyes away seeing this because I see my grandmother and my grandfather, and the lovely people where I grew around, and unfortunately there is a lot of people buying land in Portugal and not really giving the respect to their neighbors and the people to whom thos lands mean everything, a whole life of memories. This video is amazing and it makes me want to hear more from them, more stories about the land and their interesting peculiar lives. Good luck on your project :) Boom
As an older person about their same age what they want most is a little of your time. Go take coffee sit talk. That will make them so so happy!! And accept what they do for you and return help if they really need it. I’m at the stage where some things are just beyond me. Lifting 80 lb sacks. I ask for help when I really need it and my darling neighbors always show up.
That’s the correct reply for sure! Maybe in time when you have your own produce, honey, strawberries, a traditional Dutch cake, you would share these too.
Maybe invite them over for a meal, play some music that was popular in that region in the 60s and 70s. Ask them for advice about the land, it sounds like they all have a connection to the place, maybe they're even a little worried about the change you may bring. Show them that you value their input. Also the fire sounds traumatic, if there are any local initiatives that work on wild fire prevention through land management, maybe some of your skills and expertise could be helpful for the future of the area. Thanks for the content, it's wonderful to see what you're doing out there! Aaron in Groningen
I love hearing from your neighbors. It's so incredibly special to have such a great community of folks who love and appreciate the land and a slower life. Also, the language is incredibly beautiful!
This was great!! Loved seeing some raw interviews and insight into people that have been around the land so long. So nice that they're welcoming you like this too!
How lovely the locals are ,They have worked the land the old fashioned way , they look healthy for it and it's great they accept you , always remember to respect these people.
As a Brazilian that just found out about your channel, it's SO FUN and interesting to see these people just living the life! I hope you get to know a little of Portuguese so you can say "Obrigado" whenever they bring new gifts for you!
Beautiful... our languages may be different but look behind those honest eyes at the passion and you just know they mean well and want you to succeed...
The Portuguese were a pilar of the european immigration that helped Venezuela, my home country develop in the later half of the 20th century. Very hardworking and nice people.. Together with spaniards, mainly Canarios y Gallegos and italians, each group rounding 1 million each, survived post WWII europe by travelling and settling there. Nowadays, 20% of Venezuelans (and Venezuelan immigrants) have become migrants themselves due to economic and political causes. Say hi to the bike man from a venezuelan, now canadian by choice.
I am just catching up with your videos and I really love them. I agree with your neighbors about the rain. I live in Los Angeles CA USA and that is the one thing I miss the most here. I was from the east coast of the US and love the rain, lightning and thunder storms we had there in the spring and fall. You are really making me want to move to Portugal. I am also impressed that you are, as much as you can, restoring the land and salvaging the existing structures. Mapping the water flow was really a good idea to do at the beginning and maximizing water retention. Hopefully you will be able to help direct some of the water to an area that your neighbors can use as well. Aslo share some of the salvage materials when you can't use them. The concept of community is what will really help you succeed.
They are so weet and its so crazy all the things they had lived and seen. You can chat with them for hours and they would still have memories to talk about. Saludos desde Argentina
I love this video, you are the first to focus on your neighbors, well done! I was born in a tiny village located in the Leiria district. Our family emigrated to the US when I was 8 yrs old and settled in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the union. We're located between Boston and New York. Hearing these lovely people speaking my native language brought tears to my eyes 😥. At the same time I'm proud and happy that you and other expats are embracing our beautiful country and revitalizing abandoned properties. Thank you!! ❤
What fantastic interviews. Anyone sees this, will want to go and live there! As for what to give them, organise some kind of party - either soon, or at the end of summer. Cook dishes from your country. They would surely love that.
Just found your channel today and you are lucky to have such nice neighbours. We are still meeting our new Portuguese neighbours and everyone has been welcoming. I think we are the only immigrants in the area so are a bit of a novelty!
As a Portuguese who lives abroad, this made me tear up. Thank you! Such a special video 😍and so kind of you to take time and efforth to dedicate a whole video to them.
I'm a socially anxious person, rather severly so, but I think I'd feel very calm and very at home surrounded by neighbors who thought like this, as part of a comminity with these values.
They seem like really wonderful people. It is easy to see how your future community could include these fine people in it by simply caring enough about each other to help from time to time and include each other for special celebrations. Their warning about the immense danger of fire sure perked up my ears. I hope you heard it too and will learn everything you can about fire suppression in rural woodland environments. Everyone stands to lose a lot if someone is careless with fire or unprepared to respond in a timely fashion. We have met the neighbors and they are wonderful...
Many of these fires are due to neglected and abandoned land that is not cleared of brambles, debris, etc. In the old days they worked the land and livestock grazed and kept grasses from growing out of control. So sad!
Lovely Neighborhood! They all are unique and very spiritual and polite. You guys seem to be very welcome there. Good luck, love and blessings to all of you including the neighbors …
Try find out more about the land and what it was like, where best to grow what...... they knew what they were doing, back in the day. Keep up the good work!
I hope that as your channel grows by 10k a day or whatever it’s going, more and more people want to join you there, and continue to make the locals happy to have new comers regenerative their beautiful country they love
Wonderful video. Great idea, questions and editing. You are very lucky that you have such wonderful people as your neighbours. They can be a great resource with their knowledge and even tools (tractors) and maybe seeds that are acclimated to your area.
This is sooo wholesome! 😍 they all have such a magical vibe! Joao and Fernanda too but Antonio especially! Thank you for introducing them to us! I think you could share your knowledge with one another. You can learn all the tricks of growing crops and they might use some of your sustainable solutions. Either way spend time with them! [boii I love Antonio's energy soo much I could listen to him for hours!]
Really loved this video. Peoples feelings and thoughts cannot be dug up in 50-100 years like old buildnings or the like. Important to preserve for the future
I have watched some of your videos, but this one in particular makes me want to travel to Portugal and help those in need, make friends, share joy, happiness and spreed to the world the best of people, really love this video. Thanks for sharing.
I've loved all your video's but this was the best one yet. The interviews with your neighbours are brilliant. They all seem like such great characters. I hope you become really good friends with them and we see them more often. I bet they have such stories to tell.
You just got a new subscriber. I've watched some of your videos before but this one is special, I'm very happy to see you only have nice neighbors and I'm sure you're also one. If only everyone would come to revitalize/regenerate the soil and create diverse forest maybe the country will become a garden again. Thank you for choosing portugal and thank you for sharing the experience through your videos. Bem vindo quem vem para cuidar do solo.
Enjoyed your videos very much, especially in rebuilding the guest house it was a challenge indeed for u and the team. Interesting the beauty of the land, farmland, space, weather, and many more, the orange was a welcome sight straight from the tree. Most exciting is getting to know the ancestral land of our forefathers. The awareness of Portuguese descendants around the Asian region is known to a few who still communicate in Porto or in Creole. Not forgetting the English, Dutch, German, and French who were also descendants and still proud to be part. Thanks for sharing. Cheers mate.
This is amazing! These lovely neighbours have so much of the mindset needed to live in a community! "When the others live good, I also live good" for example
Your neighbors are so sweet to offer you food and clothes. You are so lucky to have such welcoming kind neighbors. Treasure them!! They are also jolly and funny.
