I did some research about APS after your video and what really impressed me is they even have one Microinverter called QT2 which can connect with 4 panels and generate an output up to 2kw and most importantly , this fine-look stuff is in 3 phases! Enphase only gets single phase so I think they are left behind the trend! Again thank you for video and will be very happy to check out more competitors in the market.❤

I agree with you in that Enphase, although a good product, isn’t putting out enough capacity to keep up with higher power modules. I have Canadian Solar 400W panels paired to IQ7A modules rated at 366 watts, we are in full summer, full sunshine here in central california, clean panels, and highest output I’m seeing on my system are 315 watts on the panels, that’s a lot of watts to leave on the table, I was hoping I would be seeing 340-350
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
Ouch, that's a lot to leave on the table. I have IQ7+'s maxing out daily for about 3 to 3.5 per day with 370w S-Energy panels. My continuous max is 290, but I am consistently doing 293w. I would hope to get that to 330 with IQ7A. These panels are performing awesome. I hope to test Hoymiles in the future. See if they perform any better. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

Thanks for all the great info Justin. I'm doing research on solar and your info is much appreciated. I was an Electrician for 30 years, unfortunately I'm disabled now and can't do any of the work myself. You are absolutely right about many Solar contractors asking for ridiculous prices for system installation. If you do your research you will see how much the equipment needed for your project actually costs. Most installations will only take one or two days to complete. I understand these tradesmen deserve to be compensated for their hard work but I believe the company owners are giving Solar a bad name for their pricing practices. I think Solar should be much more popular, at least where I live, but these companies turn people off by their prices and sales tactics. Again, Bless you for the great job at helping inform people on Solar.

Dang! Justin! I'm just gathering materials and my first case off of eBay was delivered today from Texas. IQ8+. I need 39 total because they only do 13 panels. My plan is to do three groups of 13 up on my two story S tile roof and 14X32 patio cover. I made an offer on another case of 18 on eBay. Feel like I may have jumped the gun now, especially after realizing the iq8+ only does 13 max panels. Was gonna do 400w panels because in this heat the output drops off quite a bit! The 400w is in ideal 74-77 degrees. It's 111! Also plan on using the combiner box with envoy, a fused quick shut off, and the oval shaped unit that talks to the app. If you had any advice I'd be all ears! Keep up the great work Justin and I'll be watching! Regards, Eric P.
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject 11 месяцев назад
111 is way too hot for me 😀 That could reduce the power out of those 400w quite a bit. Even on those 95-degree days, on my black roof, I can see the performance difference in the Enlightened app.

Small update on my Hoymiles research - they emailed me back and said they wont have Homeowner Installer courses for North America until the end of 2023, but they said they have alot of Installer info on the site ( which does seem to be the case). So I'll be keeping my eye on that as I do feel I'll be interested in their micro's.

AP Systems doesn't support DIY installations. The last I checked Enphase requires system monitoring, if you implement their battery storage solution. That may have changed, since the industry is moving to much safer LiFePO4 batteries. And of course, Enphase is quite expensive compared to other solutions. Personally, I think going with a Hybrid inverter might be a best solution, nowadays, assuming you don't have shading issues.
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject 8 месяцев назад
Technically, as long as you have access to the EMA App to set up the system, you can install it as a DIY'er. AP Systems outline that process specifically for DIY'ers. They provide a link to a PDF that outlines that process. It can be found here: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=emea.apsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/DIY-EMA-account-registration.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjK3vefuviBAxXUmGoFHXPKDo8QFnoECBIQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1NfeFZ-XvlChH2Op7aKghd However, They do highly recommend a professional to install. It would be a rather larger learning curve, and they would not be there for support. So, maybe Enphase or Hoymiles is the best option in microinverters. I do agree with you on the flexibility of a hybrid inverters, though. There are lots of good options out there to build a nice and reliable solar system.

Hi ,I am watching your video about solar inverters.I do have a question about connect 220v inverter to AC. AC line have 220 v , but line from AC going to my electrical panel , House have 110 v ,only AC and oven and Landry staff have 220v . what's better to by 110v or 220v Micro inverter for AC ? Ty.

Good summary. It's worth noting that Deye is subject to a scandal that emerged in Summer 2023 in Germany: they omitted a relais that is mandatory in Germany although their certification asserts their micro inverters do have a relais. What's worse, when a retailer complained they sent a "fixed" design which seems to have a fake relais. That freaked out the other Chinese makers and made them come out with public statements that they aren't omitting any relais. It could potentially put the affected retailers out of business because they now have an installed base that doesn't comply with safety regulations and they sit on 100's of thousands of inverters that may or may not be sold. This is from a "reputable" manufacturer founded in 2007, not some backyard operation. This particular issue may or may not be an issue in other countries, depending on local codes. But it highlights that you gotta be careful. Don't judge on data sheets and homepage alone. Source: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eqc3rSYAU7k.html (in German)

Isn't a little over- planneling good? Maybe it's changed but I was thinking you wanted around 10% clipping to maximize the production
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
There are a couple a ways to look at it. The concern I have about that theory of maxing out the micro inverter daily for several hours (that causes the clipping) comes back to a general electrical issue. Overloading is never good for a breaker in a panel. If someone over works an electrical circuit breaker, eventually it will fail and occasionally causing an electrical fire. I know there are safety precautions designed inside of the components but the main focus for me is the root cause. Overloading. I might be looking at this all wrong but I never heard of overloading an electrical component to be a good thing other than in this micro inverter world.

? can you hook up a micro invertor to a string invertor?
@JustinsProject

I haven't figured out how to directly do that. However, if you add the hybrid inverter after the AC connection, you can. It gets complicated (long explanation), but it can be done. It's not the most efficient method, though. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

Question is it better to have micro inverter that supply one panel or maybe quad /4 panels and why ?
@JustinsProject
@JustinsProject Год назад
I have a set up with 27 panels and 27 microinverters. From the install perspective, I would rather had 8 total microinverters over having 27 individual ones. Everything has it pros and cons though. After everything I have learned from building my own system and researching deeper into this, I think I would prefer a quad micro inverter now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@rickstan6595
@rickstan6595 Год назад
Justin thanks for your reply to my question sir answer this for me please I thought the reason why they went with Michael inverters on each panel is that when 1 panel stops producing because of a dead cell or shading or whatever doesn't stop the whole system from producing electrical power has that problem been eliminated with string inverters is why you prefer quad inverters With the newer panels producing more power per panel what is the minimum acceptable and what company produces that panel thank you
