Most of these sound like me. I was always told some of these were signs of laziness and I was not applying myself enough and that I must have been cheating when we read the book Sarah Plain and Tall along to an audio recording. We were supposed to write about what we read in the chapter(s) we were assigned to read. My teacher thought I copied from the book. I didn't. I had to come in with my mother and her ex husband and prove I wasn't cheating. The teacher picked out something for me to read and then I had to write about what I just read. I did that and my teacher read what I wrote and was shocked. She said I had a photographic memory. I basically wrote down the chapter almost verbatim. I didn't think of it that that way. I wrote down what I remembered happened in the chapter. She apologized and said if it looks like I copied, we would compromise, and she would take me into the hallway and ask me what happened in the assigned reading. I agreed and I was never taken out into the hallway because I became more mindful of how I wrote about our reading assignments.

Thank you for this! I am 49 years old, and in the past ten years I spent weeks and months every year in psychiatric hospitals because of depression, addiction and ADHS. It turned out that I have an IQ of 145, though the questions in the IQ test seemed very hard for me. I‘m better at music, languages, arts and other creative fields. Only recently I discovered that a lot of my problems and frustration are a result of me being different. I feel that I can’t communicate with most people and get constantly misunderstood. Sadly when I was in my teen years (early and mid 90's) there wasn't really attention for this which resulted in leaving school fairly early and having trouble making human connections.. On the other hand I can basically turn on any radio station and sing along with every song from begin to end (Ilove to go to karaoke clubs.. :)) and can vividly remember everything since I was 2... It has many pro's and cons but all together I think this hasn't made me very happy for a large part of my life.. Great video and greetings from the Netherlands!

Here's something: My earliest memory is of laying in my cot looking up at my father singing 'Hickory dickory dock'. The point is that this was before my brother was born, so I must have been about one year old, with a knowledge of the English language that would have been next to nothing, so the words of that nursery rhyme should have just been unintelligible sounds. Yet I remember being fascinated by the idea of a mouse running up a clock.

High intelligence can sometimes have negative downsides. I can't stand small chat. I don't invest my energy in anything that doesn't have a goal I can get behind. It doesn't have to benefit me, but there does have to be a benefit somewhere. I suffer ruminations and have difficulty falling asleep since I can't shut off my thoughts. I get bored easily. I want to be challenged and too many things fall short. I read very fast and can read two or three books a day for pleasure. It's expensive. Anxiety is an overused term that most people don't really understand. Processing so many thoughts at once can be chaotic and overwhelming, which is quite scary. I'm always want to experience new things, but a lack of financing means I won't be able to see and do everything I dream about. It's more painful because it's through new experiences that I get inspiration, fill in the blank spots of other thoughts, and regenerate the energy to continue exploration if those thoughts. My ideal job would be too get paid to go to school forever. All over the world. Studying various topics. Exploring new culture. Seeing how everything in the world fits together.

True. I have met people like you in school and I thought they were amazing. Here's my case: Aside fr his MBA degree, my husband is an airline pilot who graduated fr the Air Force Academy. A lot of times he would just surprise me with questions or statements that make me doubt if he really asked/said them bc to me they seem to be so obvious, even dumb. But he does other brilliant things that amaze me. His genius lies in flying and some other stuff that I have no skill or interest in even if it saves my life. I have lots of interests and passions. I read and write in several languages. I yearn to discover new things every day, and I think I have enough common sense but there are also lots of things I can not do. I can never do Math for one. I lack that part of my brain that can process and retain numbers. Some people are obviously smarter than others but we all have our own geniuses if we only had the opportunity to hone them. At least, that's what I have been led to believe.

I was surprised that my brain could learn music so easily. I'm so glad a friend talked me into learning to play because up until age 52 I just assumed I wasn't capable of learning. I do have many of the traits of highly intelligent people so maybe I'm not as dumb as I thought.

I love to take the time to analyse things, I do daydream somtimes, but I like to spend as much time as I can being productive throughout the day. you don't loose intelligence, you loose creativity. Cause whatever you learn is: "that's the way you have to do it", you don't think about it any more, you don't question a solution you already have applied very often. You feel open minded as a teenager cause you are more stupid. You know less, you think more. But that's something that can be trained. ....but careful, question yourself too much is a source of depression.

Maybe you should try to go to church and find a relationship with God so you feel less alone overall. They have Christian counselors there. It's better to not put people on pedestals and think that we can't live without them, when it's God that we can't live without. You seem to be grieving and you probably need to see a therapist for grief and trauma and not expect your therapist or spiritual counselor to bring back the one that you love. Maybe she will come back and maybe not. You need to work on healing you.

I relate to 1 and 11 very closely. I have an ability to quickly generate mechanical design solutions (I have a degree in mechanical engineering and most of my working life has been as a desinger). When I get a possible solution the first thing I do is try to rip it to pieces by trying to find fault with it. I will go at it until I find a fault and then either modify the idea to eliminate the fault or drop it and move on. (Often this is not wasteful as I will learn something from the process which improves my next idea). I can come up with the ideas pretty quickly and easily and as a consequence have little emotional attachment to them. If they are faulty they are faulty and should be modified or ignored. This has helped me immensly in coming up with good ideas. Eventually I will get a solution that I can't find fault with and then I will go with it. I find the opposite of this in many people I have worked with. They have a hard time coming up with an idea and once they do they will hold onto it like grim death. When confronted with a fatal flaw in their idea they will spend hours coming up with all sorts of excuses as to why it is still a good idea. That time would be better spent modifying their idea to remove the fatal flaw. As for 11, some of my most productive time as a designer was spent sitting back in my chair, eyes closed with my hands behind my head. To anyone it would look as though I had drifted off to sleep, but I would be intensly focused on a problem that needed a solution.

I do not know if this applies to me, but sometimes I get ideas in my head about what if this or what if that. As an example, I was thinking to myself earlier today about that water bottle I had where the remainder of water had frozen. I then started coming up with mathematical problems that I would like to solve involving it, such as if 1/3 of the bottle has frozen water and the other two thirds is liquid water with 4 mL of air headspace, and an ambient temperature, how long would it take for the water to reach an equilibrium, and at what point in what stage would it be?

At 15 my SAT scores were OVER 1600. This was during the seventies. My high school granted me a rather unique offer. I could walk into any classroom and sit in as long as I wanted. There was a catch though. I was warned that if I spoke to anyone about my “special privileges” I would have to go back to my old routine of classes. I really didn’t think it was a big deal at the time. I actually learned more because I could learn anything I wanted. But only the things I was interested in. While at the same time, I was skipping school to get high with my friends. My friends and I spent all our time getting stoned and trashing the government. Somehow this didn’t affect me in a negative way. I have gone back to school on and off and now I have 5 different degrees and 7 certifications. I’ve done things nobody has done before. I have had a very interesting life so far. But I never talk about it to anyone because nobody would believe it.

Being intelligent can have its benefits but also its drawbacks if you’re a woman. Men don’t like intelligent women. If they do end up asking you out they don’t stand a chance if they aren’t at least as intelligent as you or have some kind of expertise or accomplishment that you don’t. So either you try to surround yourself with smart men (praying that there isn’t a serial killer in the bunch) and hope that one finds you attractive and you find him attractive, or you just give up because it’s exhausting at the end of the day. Your friendship base is smaller unless you happen to have done a good job of surrounding yourself with intelligent people. It can distance you from others because you have less in common with the average person. A lot of folks become draining and hard to be around because you can’t talk to them on a level that you need to. So basically being intelligent can make you a lonely person.
@aussiepyro
@aussiepyro 9 месяцев назад
I initially was going to reply, but then thought better of it, and decided it wasn't really going to be adding anything of value.... until I came across your other comment regarding ADHD. What I was originally going to say was, that whilst I agree that some men do indeed find intelligent women intimidating (and interestingly that doesn't seem to be as big of a problem in reverse), I've got to say that otherwise, as a hetero man, my life experience has been almost exactly the same as the rest of your comment. I.e. size of friendship base of REAL friends (not just friendly acquaintances), finding mundane conversations with people not on your level draining, or a real effort to continue over time, and often feeling a bit alone in the world. I've heard of and read about studies that confirm this phenomenon for 'intelligent' people, but now also discovering I have ADHD, I have looked back at a lot of my life and discovered that I think THAT is also part of the reason for those experiences as well. Anyway, in summary I also wanted to mention that I can assure you (what I'm sure you already know), that there definitely ARE men out there who like intelligent women, but that, just as it can sometimes be equally frustrating for me to find a single, similarly minded, intelligent woman that I'm attracted to, they are just statistically not as common as the general populace overall, and hence, just harder to come across randomly, as you correctly identified. But they DO exist and it's just a matter of timing/luck/effort to find one. Who knows, maybe even there's an 'app' for that (although I've never used them)? Haha. But anyway, that was just a long, ADHD-ramble-way of saying that it's not necessarily that different from the other side of the fence, apart from the social stigma/male ego side of things. Good luck and happy hunting! 😂

Thanks for this video. I try to be smart and these qualities are mostly how. I try. Some things come easily like dancing to the beat but I spend a lot of time thinking and don't understand why others don't take more time to think about things or try to understand or make themselves understood. Then they expect me to simply submit to whatever they say. It's ridiculous.

I thought I was not that intelligent. Thanks for assuring me that I'm highly intelligent! ❤

I think that those that keep an open mind and NEVER assume things about people you dont know shows high intelligence as well. Finding out the why behind anything unknown(to me) is one of my favorite activities to engage in. Things arent always as they seem especially people.

I don't know if I'm real smart but not many get my sense of humor, I can find humor in most anything even if it's sometimes inappropriate.

I have found people remember what is important to them. I've known extremely intelligent people with high IQs that forgot their loved ones birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I've noticed a social disconnect among tradionally intelligent people. Emotional intelligence doesn't always equate to intellectual intelligence.

i was switched dominate hands as a child from being left handed to right handed. To this day I've yet to pass a reading comprehension test but have a very creative mind.

I'm sorry they did that. Just for the fun of it, try teaching yourself to write with your left hand again. It's good for the brain. I decided to teach myself cursive in 2020 because printing was slowing me down. I looked at all the methods and picked the letter styles I found logical and easy, and am getting better every year. It was challenging at first, but I really like it now.

I know sometimes we're not perfect and things do happen like say if someone who may have a certain health and mental conditions can also be intelligent example like for others who have Fibro even tho can be hard but they do have a drive for perfection including in talents like art, photography, filmmaking and other even creativity look at Vincent Van Goh and Steven Hawkins and Albert Einstein they to are pretty intelligent even with some with certain mental illnesses also have a great keen eye on details and other

I have realized that intelligent people realize they don't know everything and keep seeking more knowledge, we can't learn enough or share enough knowledge to those that want to listen all we can do is share with those wanting to know what we do and more.

One sign of high intelligence may be knowing when to stop taking in superfluous information - and quickly moving on to other sources that may prove to be more useful... Off to the next video!

You can train yourself to pass standard IQ tests with a good score.... meaning they are effectively useless. I think that everyday problem solving is a good sign of intelligence.

Dude, I was going to point this out, but 80% of the comment section is just "I scored 142 on an IQ test when I was 6!!!" Didn't want to burst their bubble. 😂

I took IQ tests as a kid, as a young adult, and last year just for the heck of it. And the score was about the same, give or take a few points each time. I definitely didn’t train for them.

yea, i wrote an essay in high school about how IQ tests are culturally biased and therefore just unfair and useless. i think we should worry way more about common sense and kindness than intelligence.
