Will you share your thousand island copycat? I tried a big mac stack recipe from another channel I watch, but the kids didn't like the sauce in that recipe.
Big Mac Salad Dressing 1/2 cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon dill pickle relish 1 teaspoon white vinegar (or lemon juice) 1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika 1/8 teaspoon salt Also add sweetener of your choice.
@michelledunn1715 Magic Spoon cereal has more pure ingredients. I've seen it at Sprouts. For a small box it's quite expensive. It would be good for a baby's snack. Cheerios are very bad. They contain phthalates. So do Goldfish crackers!
To separate your cream it would be so much easier to use a party beverage dispenser. Where you put the liquid in the top and there is a spigot at the bottom. They are usually glass or plastic. Put your raw milk in, put in fridge, let separate, put a jug under spigot and pour out till cream is at the bottom. Much easier than spooning it out. 😊
It's amazing how ALL of their children cook. She compliments them and thanks them so of course they are eager to do it. Even their younger children make scrambles eggs and such. So good.
Sarah, Thank you for the reminder that we go through seasons in our lives. Every time you say “It’s a season” it helps me remember this will pass. I adore your family ❤
I buy a lot of ranch dressing and never knew it was that easy to make. I am caregiver to my 92 year old mom and my younger brother who has had a stroke. They love ranch dressing. I really could use the Italian dressing recipe but I'm grateful for the recipes you did give. 😊
@@loreanschaffer2604 that would be ideal but our yard is tiny and we are adding a swing set this summer. I have dreams of moving to a bigger property. One day!! 😍
This video was so great and inspiring! Some of these things I never thought of making at home. I was hoping you'd leave all the recipes below but I'm thankful for the ranch and taco seasoning recipe. You could make an entire cookbook out of this video!
Compiling all their favorite recipes could be a homeschooling project for the older kids. Entering them into the computer and possibly creating artwork for the cookbook. Tori, I'm looking at you 😉
"I just love anything that reproduces itself" says Sarah, mom of 11 😂❤ We love the big mac salad too! And I recently made it with leftover chicken instead of ground beef and that was great too! 😊❤
Your garage seems to have nice tall ceilings... You could have someone build wooden shelves all the way up one of the walls... if built correctly you could have them fit nice totes to organize off seasons or surplus stuff. They also make those garage shelves that hang from the ceiling and you could put other stuff up there. Im loving these moving vlogs!
Love this, love your fam! I've been on a journey of picking a few things a month to replace with healthier options or homemade things, I can't believe how many we've accomplished in the last year or two. It's been so fun to work on these things "along side" you. Can wait to see how you and your family use your new land. So happy for you!
Yes, yes on the raw milk!!! We've had a Jersey for just over a year now and having her milk for all the things has been wonderful. Plus, she is just the sweetest. I love her so much! She's due to calve this month, so we'll be back in milk (after a two month dry off/rest period) very soon!!!
We are in the process of selling our house and moving, too. I keep cycling through calm periods of, "I've got this" and then, "Agh!! I'm drowning!" 😂 Blessings to you and your sweet little Seth ❤
My dad (would be 106) said when he was a boy they hung the clabber cheese in a cheese cloth off a tree branch and let it drip until it had stopped dripping. I always pictured this in the shade but he didn’t say that. They would check it periodically to see when it was done and eat it. He never called cottage cheese anything but clabber cheese. I wish I could ask him all the questions and write it all down - he had such a wealth of knowledge! 😊
He called it clabbered because they would set the milk, usually the milk left from churning butter. Left on the table or counter to clabber and sour. This would be what they used for Buttermilk, and cottage cheese. Yes, I can remember my Mother and Grandmother doing this. I have done this also when on the farm. We always hung the cheese cloth from knob of cabinet to drip into a bowel. That drip was usually thrown away but I'm sure during the depression it was poured back into buttermilk or at least used to make bread or biscuits. Maybe given to chickens or pigs or dog's you can believe it was used for something on the farm or homestead.
Yes, absolutely. I haven't been to a grocery store in 2 months. I make bread too I'd love your recipe for a nice fluffy loaf, we produce our own milk, meat and eggs, working on producing more of our produce.
😂 LoL Mrs Sarah it took my son who went to culinary school at 18 to teach me Alfredo sauce too I thought it was hard for years as well. Keep listening to your kids you are a GREAT MOM Happy mother's day 💐
After my second bout with cancer, I started being more conscious of what I eat. I haven't bought yogurt, pasta sauce, bread, bagels, English muffins and a lot more. I feel better about what I'm eating and feeding my family.
There’s been a few times during this pregnancy where we had cereal for dinner. Multi grain cheerios with bananas and blueberries added when dad was changing work shifts our bellies definitely were screaming at us. I’ve also noticed when we buy store bought bread and it upsets tummies around here too. Homemade is definitely the way to go & always so much better for us and most of the time more frugal! We also have recently stated using the food processor and grating our own cheese and it’s so much better. We recently tried freezing it for the first time and it freezes beautifully
Hello Meg M - in regards to your shredding cheese comment, did you add anything to prevent it from sticking to each other? Like corn starch? Just curious :)
I stopped buying Granola. I finally started making my own from your recipe about a year ago. I add raisins or cranberries and pecans to mine. Since it's just me who eats it, I don't have to restrict what I put in it. I love it and sometimes I eat it twice a day!
Hi Sarah,I make your granola, I've got yogurt on the side that I'm making today .I make bread too .I'm getting there I try . I have a very large allotment for veg .I would love your farm and of course have chickens and ducks they are so cute .
After watching you, Farmhouse on Boone, and one more person, I finally made my own cheese. I was making bread since I was very young, but as an adult, I was not doing it enough, and I fell off from enjoying store-bought bread. Some years ago I slowly got back to it. Now I have not bought bread since late 2021. I enjoy making my own yogurt since about 2017 or 2018. I hardly eat pasta, but the little ones love it. I have not made my own in a long time, but I'm returning to doing that today. I stopped buying pasta sauce for some years. One day I'll get to Kombucha. Thanks for sharing.👍🏽👍🏽
Iv been making my children your “Big Mac Salad” recipe for years now. They love it. Iv also passed the recipe on to friends & family. Thank you very much.
Big Mac Dressing 1/2 cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon dill pickle relish 1 teaspoon white vinegar (or lemon juice) 1/4 teaspoon sweet paprika 1/8 teaspoon salt Also add sweetner of your choice
I make a Sweet Baby Rays clone and can it. Also catsup, flavored oils/vinegar and flavored sugars like lemon and vanilla. I also do simple syrups, usually vanilla, for cream soda and iced coffees. Ginger ale is a favorite. I always have a large jar of Jiffy cornbread mix that takes less than 10 minutes to put together enough for 6 batches.
Thank you for doing this video! I love all the changes you have made and would love to start incorporating them into our grocery routine. When you said "When things are individually packaged it's like it calls their name" you hit the nail on the head! ❤ Thanks again! Azure Standard passes through our town and I would love to try them.
You made me think of when I make grilled cheese in the oven when you were talking about shredding your own cheese. Just butter the bread as you normally would..add the shredded cheese (I love a blend) and put the buttered piece on top. You can make several at 1 time. Bake on 425 for about 7 minutes then flip for an additional 7 min or until golden brown. It's perfectly crispy & buttery ❤
I love all your videos. This one was extra great! Our son and daughter are adults with their own families so I don’t cook the same amounts as I once did. That said, I have taken many of your great ideas (like shredding my own cheese, making my own spice mixes, cooking with the ingredients I have etc). Love your new country home. Raw milk is the best!
My kids all were raised on raw milk, we had a dairy farm. They have very strong bones too. My son broke his arm amd my ex- husband his back and they healed in record time. The Dr’s were impressed.
Food God made just for us that comes from a loving conscious animal. God breathed life into humans & animals. Their use for food has been blessed by our Heavenly Father. We should just do our best to dhow worship & glory to God!
That tree behind u and Juda is absolutely gorgeous, it reminds me of the blossom trees here in NZ, I think some people call them Cherry trees, but often blossom 🌸 and if it's windy the ground looks like pink snow.😊
I loved this video!! It's interesting to see how we change our shopping habits through time. I want to start making my own seasoning mix so I don't have to buy it. Ive learned to only buy the meats we eat so we don't waste food. I don't buy peppers anymore because I grow my own and then freeze them to use through the winter. I want to start making my own salad dressing as well.
Have you tried freezing your yogurt? Then you dont have to worry about ever running out of starter! Its been a lifesaver for my family!! Love your fam!! Ive been watching your channel for years!!
Sarah you inspired to me start making my own bread which I have perfected tastes so much better than store bought. I also have stopped buying English muffins, hamburger buns, hot dog buns, and bagels at the store. The Big Mac Salad is so yummy .🙂
I think it's amazing that you make so many things now! I wish I had the time/energy to do that! Plus, it's just me and my hubby so I don't know how much it would help us. But, I know it saves you and your large family lots of money! I really enjoy learning these things from your channel even though I live very differently!
That’s my observation about her is her abundance of energy! I’d like to tap into some of that! I did a lot of gardening, canning, and made homemade meals, and homeschooled, as well as planning homeschool activities, but I was always tired! She doesn’t ever seem to be tired even though she’s birthed 11 children through all her work. Her husband helps, but I think he works long hours so much of it is in her own. She’s amazing!
About the yogurt, you can freeze a small amount so that you don't have to worry about letting it go if it happens. I was leery about it at first, but it is fine even if you can't eat it all and want to freeze some. I used to freeze it in serving size portions and never had a problem.
You are so inspiring! We are making the jump to homeschool next year our two kids and I also have a baby and I’m thinking if you can do it with 11 I can. And how much you get diene around your house preparing healthy food and how you use your time is really inspiring, thanks for your content!
For many years when I was much younger :) we had our own chickens so had fresh eggs, we bought raw milk (illegal in our province) and with that I made butter, cheese and yogurt as I took some of the cream off each gallon jug when I got it home. I did make my own seasonings and several dressings --- that was back when I had small children and then teenagers to feed! Now as a senior on my own, it isn't practical any longer. I still make some seasonings and give them as gifts (and keep a small amount for myself). I love to bake bread and still do that occasionally. Mostly though I make hamburger or hot dog buns as I can share those with my son's family since they live close by. "Homemade is better" is a motto I have used for many years :)
With far fewer at the table, we buy very few seasoning mixes any more too. Having easy access to bulk spices which happen to be significantly cheaper than bottled spices led me to just seasoning as I cooked which over time led me to periodically making my own mixes for a few items. It just happened over time without an effort to reduce seasoning packets. The last time we used a taco meat mix, we were surprised at how salty our taste buds thought it was.
My daughter would follow just general directions for ranch dressing. She has this talent. Now her daughters my grandies make it by following your measurements which I also needed myself. So thank you. Do you have current yogurt directions for the raw milk, or is it the same as the old? Blessings.
If you want to make rolls more often, it is best if you use a scale to weigh them out. It helps them to proof and bake evenly. The other thing that helps is the hand rolling motion. You may be able to find a video on rolling technique but, how I do it is with a cupped hand putting just enough pressure on the dough to push into the table but not make them flat so the are still round. They are ready to put in the pan when the bottom no longer has a "hole" in it. Hope that helps some. 😊
I now buy organic citrus fruits & others where possible and use the rind/skin for tea. Orange, Grapefruit, Lemon, Pineapples, Mangoes, etc... Very delicious and fresh
Thank you for validating my efforts to eliminate contaminants from the food for our families. I grind all our own flour, I do use organic yeast but keep sourdough starter on my counter for countless uses. I try to find and buy whole spices when I can and grind in small batches to preserve the fragrance, flavor and nutrition. I live about 40 minutes away from a thriving Amish and Mennonite community where I was a nurse at one of their long term care facilities. I get dressed chickens and rabbits, I have gotten beef and pork as well. I sometimes pay a bit more per pound but I justify that by realizing the time and effort put in to humanely and naturally raising their proteins cost them up front. I live in Iowa and as of July 2 we will be able to buy raw milk and I am SO excited. There were only 4 things on your list that you don’t buy anymore for your family, that for us I will buy now and then, such as yogurt and cottage cheese. We don’t typically eat those things regularly so the splurge when the craving hits doesn’t even hurt our budget. Thank you for sharing your cooking journey, your HONESTY about learning to cook and your entertaining family. And the recipes from Kenya! We have tried as many as I could figure out the measurements for!❤🎉😊
I am a strong advocate for carrots in red sauce. I like to sautee until soft, then puree as I don't like the chunkiness in them. They add a lovely sweetness, smooth the mouthfeel and act as a thickening agent to avoid that watery separation you sometimes get when red sauce is plated.
Can’t wait for y’all to live at the farm. God definitely has his plan. This is going to be such a good stage in life and thank you so much for bringing us along. This is what we should all strive to be like. Go Sarah!!!
I am so looking forward to you planting and harvesting - despite how hectic your life has been, packing up and moving - you all just seem to 'belong' on your land - what a fantastic opportunity for the children to be involved in growing their food etc. (I'm still trying to second guess what other animals you might get) sincere thanks for allowing us a window into your life/plans xx
I no longer buy taco seasoning. I found and make a recipe for it that we like better. I no longer buy berry syrup. I just add water to homemade jam. No longer buy jam, I make blackberry and raspberry and strawberry freezer jams. No longer buy Magic shell ice cream topping but make our own out of chocolate chips and coconut oil. When I have time I also like to make and freeze lasagna and mashed potatoes, also meatloaf for nights when I haven't planned out dinner. I have a good dinner roll recipe if you'd like it.
When you make yogurt, can you use vanilla yogurt to start it? I've thought about making my own but we don't like plain. How can you make it into vanilla? I love your videos. You're very inspiring
I got a bread machine two weeks ago, I watched your older videos and got inspired. I have not got bread from the store in the last three weeks.❤ I didn’t realize how easy it would be to just dump and go, my teens ask me to make banana bread went good. Thank you for showing this part of your lives very inspiring.
I’ve never tried it, but some people make their own brown sugar by adding molasses to cane sugar. I still buy chocolate chips sometimes, but I’ve also made chocolate chip chunks for cookies by cutting them off of a dark chocolate bar. I make my own salsa. Something I’ve done in the past, but need to do more are homemade tater tots.
