Not sure how much everything in that bathroom would cost at retail, but the Kohler Veil Comfort Height Toilet alone is $6,000.00. Must be nice to have Kohler as a sponsor.

One of the best things in the home is a heated floor, but our installer didn’t put them close enough to the cabinets so as I’m standing at the sink my toes are cold! I love the idea of the heated shower seat.

We did the same thing regarding the vanity. Single bowl, lots of cabinet and counter space. My wife and I aren't trying to use the sink at the same time so we didn't see the point to having a second one. When designing our house we thought very carefully about how we were going to use it and what we would need. I think most people simply think two of something is better than one.

You have been in the house long enough to compute the amount of electricity your resistive heating units in the bathrooms cost to operate, that would be of interest. Luxury is one thing but I much prefer the KIS principal which is usually more repairable as well. Great idea to have the water filtration system or appliance longevity.

Really love most of these details and it's the type of video that makes me wonder what other details I may be missing. The slanted shower ceiling makes so much sense, I hate the condensation dripping on me in our current shower. The toilet seems excessive, I'd prefer a dim light in the whole toilet room rather than one inside the bowl... And with dogs, I don't want an auto-open toilet. BUT the auto flush is neat. The two things that stand out to me because that's what I'd like to design in our next house - is the bathroom and walk-in closet being attached. I'd put laundry in the walk-in closet... Get out of the shower, throw dirty laundry right where it goes, put on new clothes... Take clothes out of the dryer, put them away directly. Love the sliding pocket door with mirror too. Thanks for sharing!

Hopefully you have a whole house water filter for that steam shower. Good to get anyway. Lot of contaminants are absorbed in the skin with just a regular shower. Plus taking showers in filtered water is just awesome.

Love your vidoes! We are in the process of having an addition built on our house to make our bathroom and closet larger. Our bathroom specs are almost identical to yours but our shower is 4'x6'.4" and the bathroom width is 6'.4" so just a little wider than yours. Our double vanity will be just like yours measuring at 10'.9". Any advice about getting a piece of stone (preferably quarts) that big and how to get a custom cabinet that large? Only big difference between our bathrooms will be we have a 32" window in-between the 2 mirrors/vanity sections and a linear window on the back shower wall, everything else is almost identical. your videos are helping us so much!!

Now all I have to do is win the lottery to afford such a bathroom for myself. Also, if that's your idea of a small bathroom, what size do you consider large? I did do something in my personal bathroom that everyone who's been it loves: I have a tub for soaking because sometimes that's what you need AND a shower for day to day cleanliness. Between the two is a towel closet which ALSO happens to be the access to all the plumbing through removable L & R panels inside the closet.
@kamX-rz4uy
@kamX-rz4uy 2 года назад
The plans our builder had, which we then customized, had a tub, towel closet, and then an open space which as an option could be turned into a shower resulting in what you have. We didn't see the point and instead shortened the bathroom a bit to have more space in the bedroom (which coincided with another change we made) and used the remaining space to extend the closet leaving us with plenty of storage space. We didn't see the point to having a separate shower but I guess if you are going to do something fancy with the shower like in this video it would make sense.
@bobjoatmon1993
@bobjoatmon1993 2 года назад
@@kamX-rz4uy I skipped mentioning (just didn't occur to me at the time) that the tub is not the standard 5 foot but is a 6.5 foot, deeper than normal tub with a circ pump and some jets (no air bubbles). Believe me, about once a week I fill it with 113 degree water as hot as I can stand and submerge everything but my face and soak until all the stress and tension leaves (at least an hour +) The showers great for mandatory loosening stiff muscles and joints in the morning (5 motorcycle wrecks racing; run over by a car, life flight and 21 days in intensive care with crushed chest and punctured lungs; rear ended by a drunk while sitting at a stoplight where they had to cut the car open do I could get out; scaffolding collapse dropped me 20 feet to the ground, etc... so lots of aches and pains) and a second time in the evening to clean the sweat and filth off before I cook dinner and relax [my work schedule is usually 5 12s & an 8] So you can see there's a good reason for both and worth every bit it cost.

Love your show. I am puzzled, that with all the other high-tech items in your bathroom you didn’t get no-touch faucets, especially in the bathroom, although of course you always wanna have a manual back up. What was your thinking about that? Secondly, all the high-tech networking & items, is so COOL, but you just know, or suspect, the law of averages, at any given time there’s gonna be some box that’s got a hardware issue, or more likely will require a firmware upgrade, or an OS update, just to get your shower to turn on. Sure looking forward to your review in a year or two about how all that goes …. Thanks again for such a fantastic series of videos …

Don’t you need a vent inside the shower for the steam to escape? The Zander vent is outside which means the steam has to leave the shower enclosure and will condense on everything outside that is cold (mirror, walls, light etc)
@MrJramirex
@MrJramirex 2 года назад
Doesn't look like the mirrors fogged up after the massive amount of steam he let out. In a normal shower you put the exhausting vents inside for sure. In Matt's case, the Zehnder ERV is always exhausting air so having it inside would make his steam shower steamless!

The size of the space, the heated floors, and the humidity detecting electronics, all help reduce the condensation during and immediately after showering. The Robern in wall vanity has a defogger so no concern there. The HVAC system does the mop-up after.

Appreciate the bathroom info, but kinda like to see cost, is the return worth all the awesome upgrades.

When your sponsors pay or discount the build of course its worth it. Some people don't care about roi.

A lot that toilet alone is like $8000, My best guess is in the realm of 50k plus once you add all the finishing's little expense spared in this bathroom.

Shower system, steam, hardware, faucets with gold finish $$$, high end medicine cabinets, sinks guessing 25k+. Not cheap. Questionable ROI if paying out of pocket from finance perspective. Making and enjoying a Luxury Spa experience like this is something you'd do if you're fortunate enough to be able to for the joy it'll bring you. Some people buy a boat or some other toy, I made a ridiculous shower.

@@AzaB2C no for sure I say the prices because I building a home right now and I’m spending a lot of % of the cost but Matt between just making bank and sponsors can afford to make it extra fancy. Stuff adds up fast

What happens if you loose power while using the shower? can you turn the shower off? A small PC UPS on the valve/controller/switch might be a good idea.

That why you have a build in Generator for the house. Just in case u don’t have power.

If you lose power while using the shower the valve will shut off, the controller has to have power in order for any function to work whether it’s steam or shower/ handheld. Those Kohler valves are finicky in my experience from working with them.
