Also, when you're home alone you can avoid flushing the toilet when it's not needed. 😝✌️ 2nd tip, have a bowl in your shower so that you can save all the cold water until it warms up. When I want to hand wash smth like my sandals or my cloth pads, I put them on the bowl right next to me and voilà, bowl full of water. Last one, save the cooking water (from legumes or pasta, for example) to water your plants, it's full of nutrients ☺️

I never let the water run when brushing my teeth. I feel like my head will explode when I see someone running water while they do something! 🤯

This one is kinda obvious but lots of my neighbors dont do it so I'll share. Water your grass at night. Less will be lost to evaporation

I'm in rural South Australia. Several years ago we were in a bad drought here and, in 2020 speak, we had an enforced water lock down. Our landlord paid our household water bill. When he read our water meter he had to read it a 2nd time as our numbers were extremely low for a family of 4, with a green vegetable garden. He calculated we each used 27 gallons of water daily. No dishwasher. Laundry water was diverted on the garden (washing with eco friendly detergent). I collected timed shower water with a drum in the bottom of the shower cubicle, which we stood in to shower. We let the lawn die but not the vegetables. We washed the car with a bucket and sponge.

We disconnected our downspouts (for when it FINALLY rains) and it waters our grass for us! Rain barrel is our next upgrade for water the garden.

Install a water butt if you have a garden. Our roofs collect so much water! Mine feeds my garden and house plants.

I live on a typical 1/4 acre block in rural Western Australia. We live off rainwater. family of 5. it can be done pretty easily just by being careful. we collect rainwater from garage, house & three large water tanks. never had to call for water. neither did previous owners in 45 years.

You can always add 55 gallon drums and you can buy nice looking ones off Amazon if you want and water all your indoor and outdoor plants with rain water which your plants will enjoy more than City tap water. Also you can buy a pressure washer and take the water out of the 55 gallon drums and spray your car and driveway off and the outside of your house and clean your windows without using tap water to save on your bills. And a plus is if your water ever goes out due to a mainline breakage you can use the water from your 55 gallon drums to flush your toilets. Also if you have a Berkey or Alexapure gravity fed water system you can drink the rain water.

The scientific article where the number of liters needed to make a t-shirt is really good. They take into account the water footprint in different countries and finally give the mean. They also did the math for other item like jeans.

very nice! just came from another of your vids and really like your ideas. Loved the one about the bucket in the shower for watering the plants. It has the added benefit that the chlorine will evaporate and its better for plants. I loved also that you included the water cost of meat and cotton. After trying to be strict zero waste for some months, I went mostly vegetarian and started shopping/selling second hand because the environmental impact-effort was larger than full ZW. I still strive for lower waste as possible, but those were easier first steps for sure.

Great video. I was really shocked to see that I use 1000 gallons of water a day because I really try to be careful. My tip is when I boil food in water I pour that water over any bowls or pans that need to soak instead of filling them with fresh water. Similarly we put any dirty dishes that need rinsing in the sink and every time we wash our hands while cooking it fills them up and rinses them. Also, we use our kids' bath water to water the plants. They're small so they bathe in a small kiddy bath and we use unscented bars of soap to wash them, so when they're finished we carry the bath to the balcony and water the plants with the water.

I hand wash my dishes in very little water, not even 3 inches. it really does not take much. i dont believe a dish washer uses less water, plus it also costs you electricity.

If you're just trying to save money I will give you one tip that will save you more money by using more water is adding a bum gun or bidet toilet seat to your toilet and this way you don't have to buy toilet paper and you will have the cleanest butt around. That's at least $10 to $20 a month in savings and having the cleanest butt around is priceless! 😁😁 Most all of Asia don't use toilet paper. They have bum guns, that's why in the pandemic they didn't run out of toilet paper because they don't use it. Just think of how much money you spend on toilet paper a year???

And I would like to bring up the water cycle for those of you who think that water is infinite because of rain, water from lakes, puddles, etc. evaporates, rises up to cloud level, condenses and then when a cloud gets heavy enough with the condensed water, and then it rains.

I was curious how long I actually take to shower so I timed myself and got 6 minutes and 18 seconds. Not bad if I saw so myself and only shower 3 times a week. My boyfriend still insists on showering everyday and takes much longer ones than I do. Gutta work on that with him.

Every morning I turn on the shower then turn on the bathroom sink and brush my teeth and shave with the water running. After that I hop in the shower for 30 minutes. Then I get dressed put on deodorant and comb my hair with the shower still running. After all that I finally turn off the shower. I wonder how much water I use every morning

Three ways I have found to reduce water consumption in the shower: Take shorter showers Use just soap (no need for shampoo or conditioner) Use an water saving shower head - I use the original Showery EcoFlow here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pPI2Qt3cMsY.html

Also you don't have to leave the shower running the whole time. In the military it's not uncommon to 1. rinse with water, turn off. 2. lather up shampoo and soap, turn on. 3. rinse off shampoo and soap, turn off, dry off
