12 Weeks Progress: Helmet Therapy For Flat Head Syndrome/Plagiocephaly 

I told my baby’s pediatrician my concerns and he’s the one that referred me to a consultant by the time my son was 5 months old. The craniofacial consultant declared he indeed needed a helmet bc he has a bit of brachiocephaly and a high percent of plagiocephaly. she then gave me the address to cooks children’s orthotics and prosthetics where they measured his head and got the process going to making his helmet. We came back in 2 weeks for the fitting. He’s been in the helmet since July 23, 2020. He’s now 7 months and has been in it for 2 months. The last time I went I asked the woman who measures his head how much longer and she said I could withdraw from the program whenever I wanted bc his head is growing into it but she said she wouldn’t if she were me bc he has a lot of progress to go and is so used to the helmet so I’m gonna keep going. I hope to have him out of it by Halloween 2020 or by my birthday November 4th I just have to keep up the good work by keeping it on as much as I have been. My sister and mom keep telling me he doesn’t need it anymore and they don’t see anything wrong but I’m gonna keep going bc I don’t want anyone to notice his right side is just a tad bit bigger than the left when he gets older in school/when he gets a haircut even tho it’s not that noticeable-it is to me tho and messes with my ocd lol. I want both sides symmetrical but needless to say, the helmet definitely works. So parents, talk to your pediatrician and see if you can get a referral first. That’s how I did it and I have benefits btw so those that don’t, I don’t know how much it’ll cost out of pocket it was free for me

As an African-American, we are so Westernized that we forget old ways dating back to Africa. My family suggested i sleep him on his stomach, but Western Medical suggested back. The problem is sleeping on his back brought congestion and sleeplessness. And flatten his head. My friend who is African-American, slept her baby on his stomach and guess what? He has an amazing head like the comdian/ acter Eddie Murphy. If, you ever google Eddie Murphy head shape photos of that man has a great head shape.
