I know right? I can't even do a single proper trick after more than 2 years. I feel like a complete retard. Maybe I should just give up. How is it even possible that I'm this shit? Jesus fucking christ.
@@OfflineTillee I have dabbled in the last year or so. One session made me unable to bend my lower back for a few months (I somehow fucked up a muscle completely by barely doing anything), then more recently I dislocated my shoulder trying to "pump" in a half pipe. Saying that, it's good advice because I got further than I would have just cruising/street - I'm trying, damnit!
I have a kid that recently has taken up skating, I go with even though I'm old and broken, just so he has someone to skate with, and you are inspirational to both of us, and your instructional videos are very comprehensive, we appreciate having someone in the world like you, thank you Jonny... He hopes one day to skate with you.
rofl , I learn t heelflip before kickflips . 360 flips were easier than heel flips lol . Honestly when I was young I learn t how to 360 flip within less than a hour after watching someone . But now I'm 40 and I have gained a shit load of weight its way harder lol
@@forestalmo2417 ahah Anyway you have to try , good luck ^^ For me heel are easier than kick flip , cause i simply can't do a kick flip i don't know why
I know late flips were already a thing in the 90s but they were uncommon. Not so many skateboarders used to do them until now that skateboarding became very technical.
It's crazy to see Rodney Mullen/Daewon Song's successor on such an evolutionary journey... It's also cool to see spots from Johnny's 2011 part being done again with much more complex lines in his 2019 part... Awesome stuff Mr. Giger!
I think people wanting to stop skaters by installing those skate stoppers on rails and ledges just pushed skaters to go even bigger, like they’d just put the bumps on the first rail on like 6 flat 6, thinking they couldn’t get to the 2nd rail, and skaters were like, fuck you I’ll just get enough speed to clear the whole first rail and grind the 2nd lol. If you compare skaters these days to back in the 80’s or 90’s, they go sooo much bigger and harder than guys back then. That’s with every sport tho tbh.
Dude it was clear as day even in your first videos that you have a gift. You should be extremely proud of your journey over the years. Love watching your stuff
Jesus Christ dude your progress is amazing! BTW your series of "IMPOSSIBLE TRICKS OF RODNEY MULLEN" inspired me and got me back into skating after 10+ years!!! Thank you dude and keep shredding!!!
12:59 "... I think this is what attracts subs to my channel. Is my trick selection and not necessarily my level of skating. ..." Yo! That is some really good self-analysis. You are an amazing skater but I don't come here for top-level skater down el toro. I come here because I like your style, you pick dope tricks to do, and you put in the work to do them proper. But to be honest, if you keep progressing like you are this channel will only be able to produce top-level skating. Your progression is visible and awesome. Keep it up.
Pretty cool. I started around 97. We didn't have any skateparks or skate shops. We were all box and flat rail skaters, but for whatever reason our progress was Soo slow. I'd say we really started getting better around 2003 when we were able to drive around more and had gas money. Really wish we would have recorded more videos and we focused less on partying hard. I'm sure you did, but back all of that up a million times. Memories fade and those videos will be priceless to you forever. Thanks for sharing, brought back some good memories!
Great vid. I haven’t skated in years (kept hurting myself), but have gotten so much enjoyment checking out all of your content. Thanks for being so accessible!
I didn't even know half these tricks existed when I skated as a teen. As I'm sure many people have said already You definitely where great after only 2 years. Enjoying binge watching your content 👍
You acknowledged you got much better between 2007 - mid 2008. I don't think you realize how much of an improvement that was though. There's plenty of people I remember as a kid who would skate daily and didn't make that much progress in a few years. You just have a natural talent which I am sure that you are aware of.
Approximately 15yrs ago, I quit skateboarding after about 3 years of practice. I was practicing less and less often and when my good board broke I settled for a cheap one (50€) and that didn't last long too, it broke not long after. Life went on, I had to study, I focused on other interests and 15 years passed almost without noticing it. Last week youtube recommended me one of your videos, I watched it, I watched some more and yesterday I decided to buy a new board and a pair of Vans shoes. I only got half an hour to jump on the board today and man, IT FELT SO GOOD! I was actually surprised to see my 30years old self landing a mere ollie after 10 minutes! Thanks man for inspiring me to give it another try! An advice for anyone that quit or had to quit for a plethora of reasons, it's never too late to give it a second chance, I bet you will be surprised too!
That backside double late flip was really something amazing! I mean most of all ur skating is amazing but that was so clean and honestly it inspires me to step my skating game up!
My dude... You are awesome. I’m glad I was able to find you on RU-vid! I want your board now! I’ve also come to a realization that riding on a 7.75 wasn’t a smart choice for me. Landing my tricks was downright difficult. SO, I’m going to now grab me a 8.25. Cannot wait
Amazing progress, Jonny! But this shows that you are not only talented, but a super committed and hard-working skater! I skated quite a bit with my friends as a kid (probs like 1999-2003), but only ever got heelflips and varial kickflips down lol. You were really good even after 2 years, so you must've put in a lot of hard work :) Edit: come to think of it, I actually skated until 2006, just before RU-vid came out with trick tutorials...unless another kid knew how to do a trick, it was super hard to learn and figure them out!
Found ur channel accidantially just to show children any video about skate i used to ride... And now i'm ur sub) Like ur style, so many impressive and non-standard tricks! Greetings from Rusland)
Love your stuff!!! This was a great video love seeing the improvements through the years... Please showing more videos like this! .... Giving me Lots of nostagia on my first few years an a board!!
Johnny, you are an amazing person. Keep doing what you are doing. You make the world a better place man, you just seem like one of the most real and down to earth people ever. And you're an amazing skateboarder man, you need to go back to the berrics and kick some butt!
Great stuff, man! Tons of people might think your first video part is as good as they'll ever get, but this video goes to show if you practice, practice, practice, you WILL get better and keep progressing! Keep it up!
Skinz there‘s a lot of intersting stuff on this planet, even cleaning the dishes can be very fullfilling if you put 100% of your focus on it, but this little wisdom took me a while to understand ✌🏻🙏🏼
What a throwback to see those Shorty's t-shirts! Didn't even know those still existed post 2010. Keep pushing wood, brother. Inspiring to see someone excel so quickly at the sport!
Damn. Jonny plays guitar, in addition to skateboarding. This guy knows no limits! Multi-talented as fuck! Proof that practice makes perfect. Kudos, Jonny.
You can still skate if you are keen. Stopped skating when I was 24, started again at 39, after being diagnosed with diabetes. It is a humbling experience and sometimes progression is slow but it is definitely worth it!
Love you, love your videos.humble and great. You make me wanna skate so bad...enjoy watching you learn and grow. Even though you are awesome you never act like you know it all.you are a great example and give hope in what can sometimes be a very negative world. Thanks Jonny 😎
Fantastic freestyle and flatground tricks and an astonishing progress! I am so glad that you have been focusing on those sick tricks in 2018 and 2019, like darkslides, no complys, primos, etc, for they are the most fun ones to watch in my opinion!
Me: "give him a pat on the back" Johnny: "a clap on a shoulder" It's all good lol just messing with ya. Ur a good person in general man. Very humble and positive vibes u give to the world. I'm getting inspired of getting back on the board after almost 10yrs of not skating cuz of ur vids. Recovering from 12yrs of meth use and 8yrs of heroin abuse(I am 26). I'm almost 4 months sober since I last relapsed in June 2018 after 11months of sobriety. Once inget paid ima buy a board and get into it again. Idc if I'm 275lbs. I know i still can do some tricks lol. Thanks man!
Be proud of yourself man, you're incredibly strong for beating the habit. I hope all goes well man I wish the best of luck for you. The feeling of landing new tricks is a beautiful feeling
Love to see how proud of yourself you are for this. Helps me appreciate the effort you have put into this rather than "oh look at this gifted kid, he was born with this talent" think you get from watching only the perfect successful attempts we're used to see on skateboarding videos.
I've been watching you since about 2015 at the latest (I think since.earlier tho). I'm super happy for you turning pro and progressing on and up in the way you have. in you, I've born witness to such passion I have only seen in greats like Rodney Mullen. keep skating bro.
This really helped me because I have been skating for 10 months and didn’t know if I was progressing well but I can definitely tell I am doing well for my time skating
Probably one of the best skater out there at the moment: Flat ground - check Gaps - Check Late Flip God - Check I always recommend you to new skaters, keep up the increasing good progress!
Yeah it's the choice of trick that I subscribed for, anybody willing to go on the pilgrimage of Rodney is worth a watch imo. Can't wait to see you win SLS some year
Amazing talent! To all out there who feel like garbage after years of practice and not having achieved anything near that: It really doesn't matter as long as you're having fun. Just draw motivation from the pros, get out there and enjoy whatever you do.
