I haven’t had a drink for 120 days and I’m not missing it. Join us for a May Day riverside ramen ride in Seoul by the Han River. Music by Alex & The Moondaze - Be Love Now - thmatc.co/?l=9C92E30F
Congratulations on your time alcohol free. People stop for different reasons, I've been sober 15 years this year. Probably won't be around to write this if I hadn't stopped. I rediscovered the joy of life, the joy of doing stuff. A big part of that is riding bikes, that's what drew me to your channel. I really enjoy your content and the way you present it. You are your own "Liquor Control Board" is a saying we have in Ontario Canada, you seem to have found yours
I’m parto of your 10% female audience, I’m 21 from Mexico it’s really great watching everything you can do with your bike, there’s just as much enthusiasm for bikes here in Mexico!
Watching this with a coffee has become my Saturday morning ritual, thank you! Also that quote “I don’t think I need alcohol to be fun to the people I enjoy hanging out with” really hit home for me. I’m not drinking anymore and good to hear things like this echoed by others.
Congratulations on the 120. I'll be two years at the end of the month. Sobriety got me back into riding bikes, helped me become a better partner for my wife and a better dad for my kids. It was scary at first because my friends and family drink but you hit the nail right on the head, "I don't need alcohol to be fun to the people I enjoy hanging around with". Love your channel.
I stopped drinking for the same reason you did. I live in Belgium and there is also a strong drinking culture here, almost every social occasion is celebrated with alcohol. I didn't drink myself to death every night, but it had become such a habit that I would drink at least 1 or 2 glasses every day until I was slightly intoxicated. This year I have been sober for 5 and a half years and I may not be as social anymore, but I do feel much better physically and mentally. My relationship with alcohol is really no longer the same and I can now have a glass a few times a year (to celebrate something, for example) without falling back into the habit. My body is now also reacting to it in an unpleasant way, as if it wants to reject the "poison". Besides quitting smoking (and subscribing to your channel), this is the best choice I've made in a long time. It's super nice to be sober! Anyway, keep the videos coming! They are very relaxing to watch!
Sounds like you have the right balance for you. Those beers in Belgium are scarily strong. Stopping can make life a little less social if that’s the culture but I try to reach out to friends to hang out for a coffee or lunch instead.
My favorite thing about your videos is the level of peace that they have. You convey such a grateful attitude, and I really appreciate that. Calm & peaceful. I love it here.
So saddles for us ladies. I ride on a B17 short. I love it. I am never uncomfortable. My husband and I both enjoy your videos. Congratulations on the 120 days.
No worries. I cannot recommend that saddle enough. It is the best. We did notice the frame may be a little big for your wife, and this may also contribute to her discomfort. When she is ready, not only do I rate what I have seen of Rivendell frames, but I love my Bombtrack Oxbridge and my Surly Midnight Special. I am not tall, and need small frames. I am not sure how tall your wife is, but both those bikes and frames are beautiful machines to ride ☺️
She’s definitely on the short end of this frame size but she likes how it rides and doesn’t have any knee pain or anything. She hasn’t got along with any saddles on any bikes yet so will try another one or two before looking at new bikes!
I’m part of your 10% women viewers- I’m an American in Scotland and I ride an Oxford BikeWorks bike with a Brooks saddle which I recommend for women and anyone really! I’m very much enjoying your videos!
So I have the short and a regular one and as well and I prefer the regular length, but that’s probably because it can move farther back on the rails and I need that to get the geometry right for my knees. Good luck!
I love your videos. I'm so glad I found them. I love all things bike and bike culture. I was never into coffee, but I have really started to appreciate it this year since I quit drinking sodas. I like seeing all the beautiful little cafes and coffee shops. Thank you.
Thanks for making these videos, they are so great, you do a really good job hitting the perfect tone and have some really interesting observations. I also love that you opt to do a voice over. Keep doing your thing, I could watch your videos all night, I always wish they were longer.
Your videos always have such a soothing vibe. I'm so glad the algorithm brought me to your channel a few weeks ago. A lot in common besides cycling. I'm a longtimer (Yank) down in Busan. I spent my first 22 years here far too frequently sauced, and the last 5 sober and relishing the beauty of this country on 2 wheels. I got tired of feeling shitty all the time, so spent a few weeks on the wagon, which turned into a few months, and...here I am. The way you speak of your first 120 days (the words you use) makes me think you'll likely be doing the same. Life is great. If you ever find yourself throwing that beautiful bike of yours on the bus again and heading down south, I'd be happy to show you the endless river & ocean paths of Busan. Happy riding!
I recently found your videos. Yours are different then the ones I normally watch which are gravel , bike build or fix gear videos. I find yours to be relaxing. I enjoy the sites of the city where you live. I live in a small town in the state of Ohio here in the USA. It's nice to cycling in other parts of the world. Looking forward to your next video.
Congratulations on 120 days of being sober. I have been sober for 2 years and 2 months. The best choice I have ever made. Keep doing what you love and enjoy. 🍜 ☕️ 🚲
Congratulations on a great milestone, and what a lovely way to commemorate it! My partner and I adore watching (and re-watching) your videos. I'm turning 30 this year, and I just learned (she taught me) how to ride a bike; you and your attitudes about riding bikes were the encouragement I desperately needed! I'm a proud owner of a Cross Check, and all I want to do is ride my new bike 🚲🚲 Thank you for what you're doing here!
Thanks for sharing. That’s so cool that your partner taught you to ride bike. They’re a keeper. It’s even cooler that you love riding bikes now. Good to hear it’s never too late to learn.
Hello. Love your videos. I am one of your female viewers. I have a Rivendell Cheviot and am most comfortable on the Brooks B 67s. It is well broken in, about 6 years old. Keep 'em coming. Thanks
Your videos make me feel relaxed, peaceful and energised to simply ride my bikes (for the simple pleasure of riding) recently bought an old Dutch gazelle bike (totally different from the performance/ carbon fibre / faster / further culture I’ve fallen into over the years) thankyou
Congratulations on your sobriety and continued success! You bring so much joy to the world through your content. I’m super grateful to be a part of your journey.
My wife likes her Brooks B67, and I of course like my B17. They're both lovely and comfortable, and while I thought it would be the springs that made the difference, it's actually the width of the B67 that is the most important for her. Also, "like a mini Reading Festival only less filthy and disgusting" might be the most entertaining thing you've said on RU-vid so far. Well done.
Thanks! A few suggestions for the B67. Looks a little wider than what I have, so could be a good choice. I loved Reading festival back in the day, despite the filth!
Hi ,I stopped over a decade ago so I have now stopped counting. Bikes mean so much to me ever since my childhood. Now in my seventies I enjoy them more than ever and I love your channel. Keep it up, best wishes Philip Smith
Hello from Portland, Oregon! Just wanted to say congratulations on the four month mark. Been very much enjoying your videos. Take care, be safe, be well!
Congratulations! I'm coming up on five years. Kind of like you, I started just to see what it was like. Never a heavy drinker, I decided to just go a month without and see how I felt. That was actually pretty easy, so I decided to try and finish out the year (another three months). Going through the holidays without a single drink wasn't something I had done in a long time, but I actually enjoyed it. Like you, I found alcohol made it easier in social situations, but one thing I've learned is that I really don't need it to feel comfortable around the people whose company I enjoy the most. Cheers! (hah, do non-drinkers say that?!)
Not a woman. But, specialized power mimic pro was initially designed as a woman’s saddle, a few years ago. It has hollow titanium rails, a lowered cutout for reduced perineum pain and comfort with a softer density foam on the tip. It has a slightly more flared rear shape. It’s so comfortable, that a few years ago, a lot of men, team riders in the Tour de France were using it. That made me try one, and I can confirm it is very comfortable. I have it on 2 bikes. Lastly, most saddle comfort is 80% how your ischial tuberosity’s, 2 sit bones, coincide with the curve of the saddle. Enjoying your videos. Good luck
@@probablyriding Woman here. My wife and I both swear by the Specialized Mimic Pro. It's specifically designed for women and is insanely comfortable. :)
I’m part of the 10% female audience who enjoy your videos and style of bike riding. I have a Brompton with a Brooks B17 wide saddle for women. It’s the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever had. Cheers from Chicago!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I won’t say that I am an addict, but I drink almost daily and start to cut down few weeks back. Friends and companions is a factor that can affect our lifestyle. Glad you are 120 days alcohol free, but I pair with dinner only if have dinner gathering. Love your unique content which is relaxing and informative to follow. Keep up the hard work and hope to see more works soon. No stress too. Take care and stay safe. 🙏
I don’t have a saddle recommendation, but if your wife ever decides she wants some comfy padded bike shorts for a longer ride, I really like the Terry ones. They are the comfiest women’s bike shorts I’ve tried. Also, thank you for your videos! I love watching them and collecting ideas for bike rides in Korea. I’ll be visiting in June and I can’t wait to rent a bike and visit all of these cute cafes and try riverside ramen!
Great video again, from SF. Love the joy you share in your riding and video work. Thanks for sharing a little of your personal life too. Most excellent
Again - great work my man! Love to see the growth you are having. Don't want to sound like a old grandmother. You are getting to the size where people are going to want a piece of the action. My only tip. Hold off on anything other than having fun making videos. Once money get's involved and sponsors things go crazy fast. ( From experience ) Wishing you all the best again from Montreal!
Epic ride again. Nice to see weather improving, I was riding on May day bank holiday and it was raining on the Isle of Wight :). Enjoy the sobriety. I will have to do a tour soon of a couple of local Sussex coffee shops, we have some good independent places popping up in the last couple of years. :)
@@probablyriding It is a great little place to do a loop around. Certainly no amazing camping options though, given its the UK we are in some sort of dystopian, everything must pay for itself state and can't have nice shared public services. :( . If only I could get myself into a job in South Korea, I would thrive on the cycling lifestyle.
A great inspirational video well done to the alcohol detox 👏 im currently having an alcohol problem im hoping my love of bike riding and finding other hobbies will help me to to quit or to cut right down your positive video has been helpful to me thank you keep up the great work 😊😊
Thank you for the ride! Your Rivendells are wonderful bikes. They suit both of you. Glad you are happy with your overall choices! Now I must ride out for a coffee.
Thanks man, another relaxing video. Love the vibe from this content. I actually also reached my 4 month mark of not drinking last week. Makes life so much better and im rediscovering it somehow, keep it up!
I'm part of the 10%! I'm surprised that's not a higher % because your videos are so pretty and chill. I've been using the "Ergon SM Women's Bike Saddle" for a few years and have taken it on really long rides. I recently witched to a Brooks B1 short. I literally switched it out this weekend, though, so I haven't been using it long enough to give a full endorsement. It sure looks nice though!
Happened to stumble upon your channel the other day and absolutely love it. Very calming to watch and hear your commentary. The infrastructure for cycling looks amazing over there! I'm from Amsterdam myself, so very spoiled in that regard, but would love to explore Seoul on a bike. Well done for staying sober for 120 days! I'm nearing in on a year myself, and I'm bloody enjoying it. Stopped mainly because I go on bike rides very often and my work is physically demanding too. Wasn't worth feeling like crap for a couple of days, just to have a night out. Happy to have found your channel! Cheers
I stopped drinking for medical reasons at 60 years of age and also found myself more energized and took up hobbies again. I enjoy your videos and your kind approach to life and people around you. Best.
Recently bought my first bike, a Surly Bridge Club. Because of that I’ve been watching more bike content and your videos are some of my favorites. Congrats on the 120 days. We all get to benefit from it with your videos.
Stumbled on your channel today and I am loving it. I agree riding a bike is good for the soul. Would love to see a video explaining how you got from the UK to all the places around the world where you’ve lived. 👍🏻. Hello from South Dakota in the middle west of the USA
Hi there! I'm in my late 20s and I ride a foldable bike and I would like to share my current saddle setup! The saddle that I bought for it is the no-nozzle saddle, with ample butt area (Schwinn Cruise Noseless Bicycle Saddle). It looks rectangular with ergonomic groves for better placement of the butt when seated. The first thing I noticed with this type of seat was it had to be adjusted so the front is angled slightly down. That is, with my current foldable bike, I am literally seated upright, and this rectangular saddle was affecting the backside of my thighs. So, I angled the saddle so my thighs would not be blocked or stopped by the front section of the saddle. Since then I have felt good while seated, enduring long commutes and feeling secure in the wide seat.
Congratulations on your 120 days! I enjoyed your video of riding and ramen! We have ramen restaurants here in the US, but I’ve not seen a setup like this!
I ride roads alone so I always think I need to improve on my speed. Since watching a few of your videos, I've come to understand sometimes, not being fast is not a bad thing at all. Also love alcohol and trying to cut back. Would say I max out 1 or 2 hangovers a year. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Way better than last time. Used to get hungover every week. Sorry for long comment.
I had to quit drinking because I couldn't quit drinking. That was 8 years ago. I'm so thankful for sobriety. God helped me overcome the addiction to alcohol, marijuana and cigarettes and replaced those activities with bikes!!! Keep up the good work on these vids and being alcohol free
Very Good 120 Days off:-) I was already waiting for the new Video😊. Here in Germany is a very good Saddle the Sqlab 602 M-D active. But is not so good looking like the brooks:-) I would love to see more bikeshops and Korea at a night drive through the night:-). I saw in a other Video a beautiful road with a lot of cherry blossom trees on bouth sides:-) I hope you and your wife has a Name nice weekend… 🤗
Congratulations on the time off booze. Definitely has been a good move for me not drinking regularly. My girlfriend uses the selle Italia Donna. It’s a cheaper saddle but gives all day comfort. I’ve used them too and I have found them comfortable.
Congratulations 🎉 I relate to the drinking culture comment as well especially as a university student. Most of my friends just want to drink when we hang out or party and sometimes I feel like it becomes a lot when you wake up everyday feeling sluggish and tired. Cheers two months sober for me and 120 days for you!
I swapped out my handlebars after watching yours and a few others vids. The flat straight bars are awful for commuting, I changed to some cheap wide bars to see if it made a difference and I couldn’t believe it! Now rocking Ron’s Orthos and they are fab. Great footage as always.
The most comfortable saddle I’ve tested is Brooks B67 but it’s more on the expensive side 😢 Now I’m seriously craving a river side ramyeon 🥹 I’m having so much fun watching your videos, thank you!!
Hello! I'm watching your videos from Sweden, part of your 10% female audience. I'm really jealous of all the nice bike lanes you seem to have. My boyfriend and I love the vibes of your videos, so calm and such beautiful scenery:)
Now I know how you afford all that coffee! Kidding aside, 120 days is great - keep going! I’ve only had a handful of drinks since last summer and am so much happier these days. And even those few glasses I would’ve been better off without, honestly.
I know everybody is talking about a Brooks saddle but if your interested considering a different saddle the Cloud9 saddle is nice, plush, and comfortable whether long or short rides
I recommend a brooks saddle for your wife! It takes a bit of time to break in but not as long as some people say. I’ve had mine for about 3 days and it’s already starting to mold to my sit bones
The bicycle is the best medicine for addictions . You mentioned the seat . A proper gel seat with gel padding in the right places takes the fatigue out of bumpy tarmac roads .No more numb bum . Collecting and listening to records , cats and exploring the world is the ultimate natural high .
if there's a town that can inspire one to take a break from alcohol (or stop entirely), it's Seoul IMHO. that summer heat is already creeping in, but the weather is gorgeous now - one of my favorite times of the year for long rides (with autumn right on its tail). happy trails~
Nice job on the sober time! I had my one year a couple weeks ago, feels good, doesn’t it? As a female I always wished i had one of the saddles that has an opening for your bits to not get crushed. Lol
Congrats on being dry that long! I’ve considered doing it myself-it’s a hard thing to accomplish in NYC. How do you typically pass the time in the evening? Cheers!
It's like a mini Reading festival but much less filthy and disgusting 😂 I love your videos, love your voice overs. I'm glad you're making them. Looks like it was a beautiful day. I've been dry/sober for over 3 years now, not out of necessity or choice necessarily. I wouldn't be opposed to having a drink again, I just never usually feel like it. It also kinda just happened. We have the same kind of culture around drinking alcohol here in South Africa. It just seems to have been normalised and been made part of the 'normal' lifestyle. I agree that it helps to be around friends and people that don't put much weight onto drinking and you can find other things to do and get the vibes from. Anyways, long winded as that was, just wanted to share that your story resonates with me.
Congratulations on the 120 days. Most people don’t understand how alcohol affects their sleep. This is another reason you are feeling better. Note: look into Dr Walker(sleep specialist) to see the research they found on alcohol and sleep. As far as seats go, I am a 60 yr old rider so my seat is a very thick padding with a suspended seat post.
