Well that works. Slick as butter. I like that. Alot better then a plate of steel and a sledge. We always froze them then smash them. And screw edges up. And then have to de ber the edges. I like this operation

When installing those bottom bushings, I like to put the grease holes 90 degrees from where the grease comes in if there are two holes. This forces the grease around the bushing, putting grease in two places. With the hole lined up, the grease wants to go straight in, putting most of the grease on one side of the pin. Anyway, that's my thinking on it but I can't say it right. It just makes sense to me.

Mike when pushing in bushings and other things that are press fit in. You can freeze them and they go in much easier. Steel can contract as much .250 thousands of an inch when freezing and expand the same when heated. God bless

What you should have done was clean the spacer it was full of dirt by the sound it made going in , and I refer to the first cylinder that went in . Steve in Thailand.

good job guys, just armchair quarter backing here; I'd have tried using a prybar to tweak the alignment when you were installing the boom pin, makes for small controlled movement that is far more difficult just using the hoist. All in all you did a great job, I'm just trying to be a blessing!

garter spring on seals goes toward what you're trying to contain because 6000 psi of grease gun will push any seal out of the bore (or flop the lip inside out), putting it on the outside makes the grease able to force out past the seal, but dirt and water not able to work back inward

A good job moving forward by a couple of buddies! BUSHINGS: Wanna share another way to get tight bushings in. We built some machines that required tighter bushings. We put the BUSHINGS in some DRY ICE for a bit which shrunk the bushings making installation go well. This also works for those who said, a couple weeks ago, to bore the hole for the pin larger and use a bushing (where you welded and rebored). What you guys did with the press worked well but wanted to share what worked for us in the past. Stay safe! Sonny (CT)

Freezing bushing help get them started straight. Also I suggest lubrications on pins before shoving them in? I enjoyed it all.

Nothing better than some 120 love

Just my opinion. When you sling cylinders don't put the strop around the pipes (rigid or flexible) as you did with at least one of the boom lift cylinders and also the stick if you go back and look. The bushing seals are dust seals therefore the lip goes out. If you pump them full of grease it is likely you will push the seal out rather than push a little past the seal edge pushing the old grease out. Great job and a great set of guys. Can't beat humour and banter in the workplace 👍

Maybe instead of plan B it needs to be plan “DP”😀. On another note I enjoy your videos and the guys you work with, y’all know how to have fun and get stuff done. Reminds me of some of the guys I’ve worked with over the years. Definitely makes long days more bearable when you can have a little fun while working. Its never good when you have to revert to plan B. My motto is that if plan B was any good then it would have been plan A. Sometimes though, plan B,C, or D are the only options. Cant wait for the next installment of "How the Excavator Turns". Stay safe my friend.

Putting the bushings on dry ice or in a freezer before installing makes them go in really easy

the seals are to keep the dirt out not to keep the grease in. worked 30 years on the F models and CH Macks, could not keep king pins until we started turning the lip away from bushings

It was interesting to watch Both of You doing a very good job of using air assist over hydraulic to pull new bushings into place. I am wondering if that John Deere may have a poor design of allowing shaft to Rotate in boom causing it to elongate whole causing very major weld up and line boring repair. You talked about bushings should have been there to replace but I am curious if other excavator brands have bushings or a better way to stop shaft from rotating. I bet You will fall in love with Your 120 DEER all over again. Are your 3 Excavators similar size?

Ok There Are 2 Different types of Bushings Oil impregnated and non oil Impregnated now One Can Be Frozen and one cannot If you listened closely and Follow Service Manuals you will understand Why you Cannot Freeze Shrink Oil impregnated Bushings, mike has Explained it and so have a few in here that DEERE Specifically Says Do NOT FREEZE Them!!! So Again Mike Thank You And Jason and Aaron For the Entertainment!!

Take some of that fantastic earnings from youtube and buy some florescent green paint an make the old girl look like "Kermit" the frog and that will get a million stares at least. Truefully a refresh on the paint sure wouldn't hurt and I love these more than the work.... split the channel for a while and have half in the dirt an half on making or fixing and see which gets the most views.... you might be surprised... that machine will be so tight that your going to have to have a recording of the squeaks an grinding sounds
