I really enjoyed this video. For me, this video is an intro to color theory and a tutorial for color swatching. The Chinese to English translation file for the Brutfuners is a treasure and much appreciated!
I love, luv, lov, videos where sets of color pencils are compared to one another. One I would love to see is an in depth comparison of Kalour to the brutfuner sets that are round barrels and solid color (not the black barrels.)
I like How you placed pencil POINTS into the center in your cases ... I Learned The HARD WAY..My leads where breaking when I put them back in points pointing outward..I hope that makes sense. I've not seen anyone mentioning this.. I appreciate you liking the Brutfurners..🤟❣🙏
I've already liked this video although I haven't started watching it. This is exactly what I've been looking for. I live on a very limited income and I really wanted to make an informed choice on these oil-based pencils. Thank you❣️thank you🌹 thank you
Great video. I have the Bruts and I've been wanting to try the Star Joy. I am holding out; however, for the Star Joy Gold that should be dropping any day now.
I just got my Brutfunner square 120 set, I am working on the swatches, I don’t think they are quite a faber polychromos but close. After watching this, I really want the Star Joy too.
They're definitely not a Polychromos, but for those of us that don't want to spend that kind of money, these are a close second at a great price. Both sets are great for beginners that just want to try out this hobby and make sure they'll stick to it before going out and buying those expensive sets of pencils. Have a great day. ❤
Hi, Pamela….loved this video! I just recently thinned out my colored pencil collection and gave many sets to the Veterans Home near my house, together with some coloring books. One of the first sets I parted with were the Star Joys! For some reason, I just never really cared for them, I know what you said about matching pencils to coloring books but I have a lot of Bassford ans Eriy books and just didn’t like them in those books.
One of the most challenging things to determine when watching a RU-vid colored pencil review, is determining the richness of the pigment. How much pressure is being used to get the color shown on the paper during color tests? My initial opinion of both is that they don’t lay color down well. They didn’t seem to blend well or be very pigmented in their lightest areas, but I know other factors could affect that. It seemed like maybe a lot of pressure was needed to get the darker parts of the swatches, but… I can’t know really unless I try them in person. Brutfuners seems to be pretty popular because of their price. I assume they have to be a step up from Crayola quality for people to take notice.
But being an oil based pencil, shouldn’t the Star Joy need a heavy hand? It’s not a soft opaque wax pencil. They should require many light layers to get heavy pigmentation. That’s why I’m considering buying a set. I’ve only colored with soft wax pencils up to now but want to give the oil a try. I know true oil pencils have a learning curve. Problem is many of the “oily” Chinese pencils are soft and more akin to wax pencils than the very hard (and very expensive) Polychromous oil pencils.
I am surprised to hear you saying that neither played down color well. I find that the Brutfuners lay down extremely well with very little pressure for almost all the pencils. I bought two sets of the Brutfuners because of how impressed I was with the pigmentation and smoothness of coloring (and don't want to run out with the colors I use the most). I do not own the StarJoy yet, so I can't compare. The Brutfuner Square pencils are absolutely wonderful for my hand issues as well.
Thank you for doing this video so helpful. I have the 120 brutfuner but not taking to them very well however in saying that I am going to try them in a different book. I do have the starjoy on my wishlist and would like to purchase them at some point because they do have some wonderful colours on them.
The Brutfuner 120 Square are still available on Amazon. I tested them and noticed that the color names on the barrels aren't chinese anymore, but english. Now I'm not sure, if they really are still the same pencils as the old ones. They do feel more creamy than my 160 Brutfuner Round tho. So let's hope they didn't change the composition of the leads n that current 120 set. Since the pigmentation seems to be the same as my 160 set, they just feel more creamy and less dry.
I was so proud of myself for not keeping the tins my pencils came in. Even the Polychromos one. I’m never going to put them back in there and I have nothing else to store in them.
Thank you so much. That is so kind of you to say. I will have more new coloring books to show very soon. I have several companies sending some to me for review. Hopefully you’ll find something in those that you love and want for yourself.
I bought my Star Joys a few weeks ago and after buying my Brunt's......I think I actually like the Star Joys better but what I don't like them is how they are labeled..... I won't know the color so I will have to buy another set of Star Joys. My Brunt's have been neglected....👀.
Check out the Color My World channel. The current Star-Joys are being sold out and will be replaced by Star-Joy Gold set curated by the Color My World channel owner. Design and colors will be slightly different.
So informative, thanks. I have a question about the sharpeners you use. I bought but need to return the Dahle 133. I couldn't see that you need to use 2 hands to use it. I have the use of only my left side. Is there another pencil sharpener you would recommend? Thanks 👍
The only other one would be to use an electric sharpener. I can’t think of a manual one that you could use just one hand. Maybe someone could recommend an electric sharpener for you if they see your comment. You can also ask on my Facebook group. I know a lot of colorists use the Agnatha electric sharpener though. I’m pretty sure it’s this one. I don’t usually use them but was thinking about reviewing this one. amzn.to/3kxIGTF
@@nancyhappily9503 Hi Nancy, I have very bad arthritis in my hands, my L hand can be unusable on bad days & I use the AFMAT Electric Sharpener that Pamela indicated. It suits me as I tend to use a mix of pencils on my pieces from the chunky Derwent to the thin Brutfuner & it treats them all gently. Amazon has them on sale every month or so for a few hours
@@terrieblazek1834 thanks for the info Terrie about both sharpeners. I'll look into the cordless one and make a final choice. Good to know that the sharpeners are easy on the pencils.
Same name but are they the same pencils with same colors? Or different colors? Square versus round...are they similar at all or how are they different? Thx
@@patseitz679 the colors are going to be different. The 120 set has Chinese names on them which have been translated. With 180 colors in the black barrel set you will find that there will be colors that are similar to one another. The 120 set has some very unique colors though. I’ve not swatched my 180 set or done a total comparison of colors side by side.
And do the Brutfuner numbers differ (same type of tins) from one tin to another? I have two different colors, (bought at different times) with the same #. But never experienced 'Square Brutfuner'.
I want to get these but I want to keep them in a case.. can I get a regular colored pencil case or do I need to get one for Gel pins since they're so big
I think triangles are better, I saw it on sarah renae clark video on youtube, she had them both reviewed at the same video, you can see it for more info ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pg7nHYAv7AA.html
@@veronicabacklund3931 oh! You wanted to find comparison between brutfuner square 120 and round 120! I'm sorry, sarah in the linked video compared the brutfuner square 120 and round 180, I think round 180 and 120 are the same, if not, I think I can't help you! :(
