1220 WGAR was "THE" station in Cleveland back then. Top talent, great jingles, news and music. It is sad that Cleveland radio is so bad today. This probably was around January 26, 1978 when the famous blizzard of '78 pounded the area. I lived through it all. Great memories.
I think that was right around the time I took a tour of the "Broadcast Park" with a friend of mine who worked for another station they owned at the time. I remember the jingle package.
Back in the days when Art Wallis was their production voice. He would eventually end up in Chicago and WLS AM replacing Bill Price as production station voice.
nobody was better than The Real Bob James!!!! I listened to him in Asheboro, NC when the AM band had the strong stations fading in and out....what a radio talent that Bob!
Having worked at the station what a lineup: Lannigan/Joe Mayer/Paxton Mills/Bob James/Chick Watkins/Chuck Collier...I worked weekends Corky with my usual news guy Bob Becker..it was a magical time. I miss jingles and great personality radio
2:47 WGAR at the time was owned by Nationwide Communications (related to the insurance company of the same name); did they just shoutout random employees from the company like in this instance?
Wow did this bring back memories! Where did you get the picture of the technician at 2:08 in the video? That sure looks like me but I don't remember the picture being taken. I worked there in 1977 and 1978.
