That did the trick! I sped the wheel up and pulled slower. 5 lbs and I had a 5" cylinder 16" tall and with really soft recycled clay! Thank you very much for the tip! -B

The torquing you are experiencing is usually due to uneven thickness throughout your piece. For example the bottom being too thin when the top is thicker and you are pulling hard at the top. Also pulling too fast while you are throwing can leave the torquing affect as well. Try slowing your pulls down to a nice constant speed that works with the speed of the wheel (faster pulls for a faster spinning wheel and slower for a slower spinning wheel).

Great work as always Hsinchuen, What clay body do you use? Also do you buy your clay or do you make your own using a mixer? There's a clay body that we use at school they call it 308 it's 7lbs of felspar and alternate scoops of fire clay powder and ball clay powder to the mixer. It's a very good stoneware cone 10 body. You could easily get the height your after using it. Again nice work on your pieces I'm loving your work!

You make great videos! I really appreciate them as I have no access to a teacher or a class. I have trouble with torquing at the bottom when I pull at the top. I tried pulling the top first then going back and pulling the bottom but then I have trouble getting the clay up from the bottom. How do you keep it from twisting up? Do you leave more clay then trim it?

Beautiful form as always. You said you trimmed off quite a bit of clay. I was just curious how you check the thickness of the walls to make sure it doesn't get too thin or you trim through. Do you just estimate or do you have another trick?

Hi, I'm wondering about your chattering. I've watched your previous videos on it and I can now get uniform chattering marks that go straight up and down the bowl or vessel I make. but when I want the chattering marks to move (from right to left or vice versa) do I need to move my hand that way while holding the tool?
