I’ve had my 1299 almost 3 yrs now and I have to say it’s awesome Not sure what people read or say about the problems I have had one One small recall on the front brakes and like all vehicles Recalls are not really a problem It’s not uncomfortable or does it make my hands or shoulders go numb It’s surprisingly tall and long so by far not cramped Ya it gets warm in stop and go traffic but it’s about ride what u want ; when and where I choose to ride mine on the open roads and country side with my friends Not to point this out but you are sitting on a motor The heat doesn’t bother me and I have been stuck in traffic from time to time It’s a bike not a couch or sofa and if I wanted to ride that I go buy a goldwing or even worse ; sit home on the sofa and browse you tube like the experts on here People forgot what bikes are about and choose to criticize machines they probably never drove or even seen one in real person

I had my 1299 for 1 year and 6,500 miles. I also did 4 track days on it. As a bike to ride it was awsome and I loved it, it felt really special but it was soooo unreliable (ignition relay failed twice, spat its chain, problem with overheating and an undiagnosed intermittent inertial sensor issue). I now have a 200whp r1 that spits flames and sounds sooo good and would eat my 1299 for breakfast and don't regret the change in any way. Don't get me wrong I loved the 1299 when it worked but the r1 is just better in most areas

yes, owned by Audi. But unlike Lamborghini, it's quite difficult for Audi to share its "German" parts with the Ducati mototcycles. So it's still 100% Italian :) You could also view it like this: A big company is majority shareholder of a smaller company, but have no direct influence on how they run their business and manufacturing, design, philosophy, etc.

I believe people think it ugly because it deviated from the traditional Ducati design formula which is horizontal twin headlamps and a single sided swingarm otherwise it is as gorgeous as any other Ducati.
@danielbarber2677

Don't think anyone disputes the performance (at least, for when it came out). The issue is the styling. Ducatis, for better or worse, must be beautiful things. The world demands it. And on the heels of the 916/996/998, it was ugly. Simple as that.

Maybe start with how after WWII Japan was no longer allowed to make fighter planes, so all the incredible engineers turned to making motorcycles since a motorcycle has similar physics to an airplane. That's basically the main reason honda and yamaha have dominated the motogp world since the beginning.

Totally the wrong parent company for the products Buell was producing. I had a friend with an XB900 (that I helped service) who had the parts people at the Harley shop give him the cold shoulder when he went in to buy parts. As it turns out I knew a guy there from my younger days, and after a short talk he got a better reception. Still, Harley people seem to hate Buell products in general. Yes, 'tis a shame. That XB was a beast of a machine, though, I must admit it sounded like a tractor when it was at idle.

aren't they "L twins"?
@christianhodges685
@christianhodges685 7 лет назад
bo0mb0i an "L twin" is just Ducatis branding, it's just a 90° degree v twin canted forward so that the front cylinder is parallel to the ground to improve cooling of the rear cylinder. This type of thing is done all the time, just as Mercedes' "biturbo" engines are still fundamentally twin turbos, an "L twin" is still fundamentally a V twin.
@chrisstarkey3405
@chrisstarkey3405 7 лет назад
the L twin is because - to keep the engine weight as low as possible they keep it close to the ground, resembling an L, and not a V.
@bo0mb0i
@bo0mb0i 7 лет назад
Thanks Guys
@il.pirata
@il.pirata 7 лет назад
90deg twins are 'L's, shallower than 90degs are vtwins. The advantage of the 90deg layout is engine balance without the need for balance shafts to eliminate engine vibration, and a power pulse delivery that's less severe on tyres. If anything the 90deg 'L' layout has caused Ducati 'C of G' problems by limiting the placement options within the frame compared to a narrower 'v twin' layout.

Great video man. I'd love to see one of these on the zx6r and zx10r as in the late 80's and early 90's every sport bike seemed to be referred to as a Ninja, no matter who made it.

being a Triumph guy, you should do one like this on what led Triumph to the 675R.

I used to own a 916. I just wanted to park it in my living room and display it as art. Arguably the best looking bike in history. Unfortunately that art required a lot of expensive maintenance. lol. Great vid!

Thanks for more awesome content Yammie! I love your history videos even when it's one I know most of the story of already. I think BSA, Norton, and Bimota would all make great videos! Also, I feel like this is a safe space so I'm gonna come right out and say it: I think the 916 is hideous. I just don't get it. It's mainly the headlights I think, but the fairings are just so bulbous as well… I think I'm pretty much the only person who not only prefers the 999, but just thinks it's a genuinely good looking bike!!

Great video. You could mention Desmosedici between 1198 and 1199. It was limited but its design was critical for the 1199 I think. Good work, nice.
